Quad-core chop
mekhet of rivia
I am having some problems. I have a ASUS Maximus Extreme mobo, which uses AI Suite to control the processor. When I have AI Suite installed, the game has a chopy movement to it. This chop exists on the login screen and persists through the game. When I unistall AI Suite, the chop is gone and the GW runs for a while.
GW will lock up and then return to the "loading" screen until I reboot. If I set the affinity of GW to a certain core, it takes longer for it to crash, but it still does.
GW's support is not being helpful because I am running XP64.
I appreciate any ideas of how to deal with this.

Have you tried forcing Guild Wars on a single core?

XP64 is probably part of the issue. You don't have to use any control software to control the CPU. All those programs serve the purpose of is sloppy interfaces between the BIOS and the OS. Just regulate Guild Wars control via Task Manager. It does a perfectly fine job regarding affinity. Regulate everything else through your BIOS at boot up. Uninstall and don't use that program. The program is probably not compatible with XP64 anyways.

i have manually set the affinity of GW and it does no good, it still crashes out on me.
As for AI Suite, I am using the version for xp64

If you have an AMD processor I suggest you download and install a "Quad Core optimizer", it sets an affinity automaticly and is of course fully supported by the company.
http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/...30_182,00.html click on "Drivers and utilities" of your processor and search for the optimizer.
If you have an Intel, well... I honestly don't know if they have such a program.

I would go to vista or xp32, but i have 4gig of ram and a 500 meg vid card. they won't support it all. will they?

You have to have 64 bit to see utilize 4 gigs of ram, correct.
If you are happy with only getting 3.5~ gigs of ram, then stay with 32 bits. For Vista, I'd honestly just say go with 64 bit.. not for Windows XP though.
Also, do I see more girl techs here now?!

You might lose some efficiency, but you lose the headaches, which is well worth 2-8FPS depending on the game.

Apparently on Vista 32 bit SP1 you can see 4 gigs of ram, but not utilize all of it.. which way does it really go? It's all quite confusing when I'm told two different things all the time.
Though, I am by no means any professional at anything computer based, I mostly try to rely off of obviousness of things - and generality of things, and from what I've learned and been told from first and second hand experience so far. I haven't gone to college for any thing based off of computers either, so yeah. I just try to help around here with general small problems, and maybe give opinions here and there and such, sometimes I think computers are just too into depth for me.. but I'm not giving up yet.
But more blatantly the general concept I've been shown of 32 bit and 64 bit based on RAM, was, 32 Bit = NO MORE THAN 3.5 GIGS, (or such) and 64 bit = 4 GIGS OR MORE.

Ah, that makes more sense now.
I'm on 64 bit now, works like a charm for everything that I do thus far.
Right now I am using up 60% of my 2gbs of RAM with Guild Wars, FireFox, Winamp, MSN, Skype, and a couple of other chat programs, so you are surely right that most people will not use over 2 gigs, I didn't buy more for that reason, I wouldn't use it.
Though I did buy 64 bit because I had in mind that I may one day be exceeding 2 gigs (Hey, you never know..), and I just wanted to have the comfort of knowing that I'm not limited, and I wanted to try out a 64 bit for once as well.
EDIT: Just have to give my apologies, I never realize how much I high jack threads. *Hands it back to the op* sorry.

XP32>Vista64>Vista32>XP64
XP64 was an OS that never matured. No one made drivers for it, it was just left to decay. I have a pair of Nvidia 7950X2's that will not run properly on XP64, and those are 4 years old.
