I also want to have my keys counted before they introduced the title. Very bad timing by Anet, they were months late, could have at least made the keys count towards the original chest title.
Still, Anet did not have a counter on how much z keys were used before the update, so they have no way to determine how many keys were used.

Dear god! I thought this was explained enough the first time around!
GW uses a built in counter that keeps track of how many keys you used. Everytime the counter advances one, you get 5 points towards your title. Without such a counter, the program can't keep count of how many keys you used and how many points are awards towards the title. Other titles such as Survivor, Drunkard and Sweettooth use such a counter.
Since ANet probably didn't have the forsight to implement a counter on Z Keys, they have no way of telling how many you used. Thus Z Keys cannot be retroactive. It is physically impossible.

One thing im noticing about anet is that ideas arent thought through TO THE END. They like to keep adding more varnish to the wood. The more varnish they add the more apparent flaws in the grain of the good become (Great Expectations).
Anyways, I hope with GW2 they plan it out and dont continually add things at a whim. Not that I'm complaining, but it would be nice if plans were more definite and made known to the playerbase

Can you really fault them for not planning for a new emote linked to the Z Keys? ANet can do alot of things, but last I checked they can't predict the future.

Ok look at it this way, ppl who opened the chest before got their keys cheaper, hence it’s fair that it’s not retroactive. The price of keys practically doubled, after the title was added, and you could say that portion was the amount that ppl were paying for the title, and the original price was just for the keys.
If it were retroactive, then it would in NOT be fair, and the people who sold keys before would ultimately be “worse off”.
