Howdy partners!

I'm looking for some new coolers ( fans/fansinks ), and I need your help deciding which ones to buy. I have everything on stock ATM, but I want to replace them, especially the one on my videocard, because it sounds like a jet engine.

Here are the parts I want new coolers for:

Processor:

Videocard:

Thanks in advance!

As for the CPU i have a version of this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118115
It is big but awesome. Really quiet, and in some cases depending on your airflow it will actually stop the fan because just the copper fins will keep it cool enough. Dont forget the arctic silver cpu paste. You would just have to check zalman's website to make sure your board will fit it.

CPU:
If your case is a big mid or a full: Thermalright IFX-14 w/ IFX-10.

vga cooler will be the thermaltake dual orb for the 8800 nividia cards.

I pulled this info from tom's hardware guide, it is also what I am/ or will be running.

Unless your case is extremely small, for cpu Xigmatek hdt-s1283

Ordered the Dual Orb, still deciding on the CPU one.

Hmm.. but what are these ''Memory Heatsinks'' people mention for the Video Card?

You have to clip on little copper things over them or something? That would make me pretty uneasy lol.

No no, memory heatsinks are only used if the processor cooler is tiny, and only covers the GPU itself. They are applied using thermal ADHESIVE (sometimes called thermal epoxy), not thermal paste. Most high quality waterblocks for graphic cards cover the entire PCB area that contains the GPU and GDDR.

As for a CPU cooler, you might try the one I use myself.

Or you can use this beauty:

Ahh, well I was thinking about buying after market cooling for my 8800GTS, but I don't know how safe it is to try and swap coolers.. that stock cooler looks pretty complicated to get off at best for me.

I know how to put on the thermal paste at least, though, I'd just hope I don't have to do anything extra after putting on the huge copper heatsink part.

I'd probably use the Thermaltake Dual Orb that zamial mentioned, not sure though. That covers everything right?

I've just installed the Duorb cooler, I love it. 10C celcius lower and it's VERY quiet. The blue LEDs look awesome too.

Oh and yes the Duorb covers everything, it's very easy to install as well. If you buy it, just make sure you use the INNER holes, it won't fit otherwise. The manual for the 8800GT(S) is kind of non-existant, but it's still easy.

Hmm.. temptation, I really want to buy it. I'm tired of seeing my GPU at 70C+ constantly, I'd like to get revenge on it.

The DuOrb doesn't cover the RAM modules. You will need to buy the copper RAM module heatsinks as well, and use thermal adhesive to apply them. Note, that once you apply them with thermal adhesive, the only thing that could remove them is using the argon lasers we have at work.... and those would go right through the heatsink, the RAM, the card, the table, and your floor.

Actually, there are RAM heatsinks, as well as VRM heatinks ( not sure what they are ). They all stick to everything easily, it covers everything. There's even thermal adhesive included, although I doubt it's as good as as Artic Silver etc.

Also, my GPU temperatures were low already ( 39 idle / 50 load to 30 idle / 40 load ) so I'm sure you ( Brianna ) can a higher drop on temperatures.

RAM = Random Access Memory

VRM = Very Random Memory - the result of letting your RAM get above 90C.

This statement may contain elements of lie.

Lol.

Well, I suppose that once I got the RAM heat sinks on, I wouldn't want them off anyways. As long as it's doing the job better than the stock heat sink, then It's fine.

The correct term you search for is.

VRAM Modules, or VRAM Heatsinks.

Heh, that's even more confusing. I guess it's a contraction of V(RM)RAM?

VRAM always meant video ram to me.

If you're replacing the VRAM cooler, you might as well replace the VPU cooler as well.

EDIT: Oh wait, you said DuOrb. Actually, I have a question. What exactly is a mosfet cooler? I have a few pieces of the monster, but I can't for the life of me find the mosfet.

I recommend this for your VRAM:

It's actually short for 'car': VRMVRMVRMVRM.
