Unstable/high ping
Daluz
Hello, I just started playing this game yestarday, and I find both my FPS and ping very unstable...
My Ping constantly changed from 100~ to 300~ , sometimes even higher and my FPS can jump from 15 to 40-50 and back down again.
Just wondering if anyone knows what could be causing this problem?
Edit: I live in the UK and my ISP is Skybroadband btw.

Uhm, 1) I'd be happy with the 40-50 FPS if I was you.
2) Alot of people seem to be having laggspikes lately =/.

I'd be happy with 20 FPS, it's just both ping and fps is going up and down constantly and I want to find out why it isn't stable ^^

the ping is most likely your own connection who'se playin ya.
The fps spikes might be that ur comp is overheated.

GW2 isn't even done yet.
They're NOT disconnecting the servers, that's been confirmed. Probably the servers are just experiencing a few faults, it's no big deal.

I've also been having hig pings and yes, my fps goes from 75-40 then back again.. yh 40 is alot but you certainly notice the difference when it's constantly switching.
Since the previous MaT everytime I play GW (quite alot) I error 7 at least once. My ISP is fine because all other ineternt games/browser works fine. Team Fortress 2 for example works fine when GW does not.
However this may be because I got a new .dat file for GW cos I changed my PC (before the previous MaT), but with everyone else having these lag problems I doubt it's my .dat being faulty...
The reason I say previous MaT alot is because that is since when I've been having the problems, beforehand (even on my new comp with a new .dat) I hardly ever error 7'd..
I live in UK btw ISP: Virgin media (no problems there though) :S

Get a better connection and a better graphics card. I have no problems at all. Usualy people think, there is something in the programs or whatever. It is true if you have 7 programs opened it won't run with its full potential but consider the fact that 80% of the time from my experience is in the equipement itself. Gl fixing the problem.

75 FPS on highest graphics settings... I think my PC specs are fine; also as I said my internet connection on every other online activity works fine, just GW being troublesome...

I've had some weird fps issues before, going from my normal 50-35 down to 5-11, restarting GW usually fixes that though. As for ping, I have wireless issues -.-; I get anywhere from around 40-300 ping, in between good and bad days.

seeing you just started yesterday, fps can be effected by whats on the screen at the time, point your view at the ground and you,ll have high fps, goto a heavily populated city and face the crowd from a distance your rate will drop, the ping always jumps between 60-180 for me but on weekends like this one they jump up and down and get as high as 400 at times.

Umm, going between 100 and 300 ping isn't really abnormal.
Sure, you usually don't get super-low pings like an FPS might give you (in my experience) but it's not really an issue... especially since, I assume, you're playing PvE.

I'm in England. I have a rock-solid BTInternet connection. I can suck files off the internet like a granny with no teeth.
GW pings?
Crap.

My latency is leet, literally. 1337 ms pwns.
I'm actually relieved if it's that, lately it's been much higher.

I know this is all pretty basic, and might have no effect, but should be suggested anyways:
- ran -image to ensure full /dat file?
- tried uninstalling and re-installing GW?
- made sure your video drivers are up-to-date?
- tried re-installing video drivers if already up-to-date?
- tried defragging your HD? (check the stickies for good way to defrag the .dat file)
- tried disabling in-game sound?
- closed any AV & FW software you have on to see if that's causing issues?
- made sure you don't have any peer-to-peer programs running in the background?
- defaulted IE & cleared it's cache? (I guess anything's worth trying if it helps? hehehe)
- tried doing a winsock reset? (as well as a int ip reset if on vista?)

Lag spikes have been getting worse and worse since they moved the servers to the new NCSoft server farm in Texas. I miss the days of being able to play all weekend with a average ping of 89. Now I feel lucky if I average 250 and that is with a game accelerator (spelling?). Anyway, Kamatsu has the trouble shooting well covered, just don't expect the pings to drop all that much.
kazi_saki
yep. same problem with me! I'm getting hella bad lag spikes from 100-300 and sometimes it averages to 40k ping [wtfomgsuxbals]
i blame it on my isp + gw servers

I've been experiencing dramatic ping spikes also. I've two broadband connections, Cable and DSL.
My DSL is unplayable with an average of 800ms latency.
Cable is better with an average of 200ms or so.
Both connections used to be under 150ms. I blame my ISP for the DSL but the high latency on my cable connection is absent when I play other online games(CSS, Quake Wars, Fear etc.). So something is up with the servers.

Yes Kamatsu, I have tried all that.
Well, from this post, it seems that 150-300 is average ping in guild wars for UK users, I guess there's nothing I can do, nvm ^^
