Has anyone noticed a reduced retention rate during this weekend? I have been around 20% retention rate while it is generally around the advertised 55% on 600g chests. I am mostly farming secret lair in NM.

It's all about the luck. You are opening more chests too so it might feel like your retention rate is lower now that you are opening more chests.

Anyone with lots of lockpick uses will tell you (and I guarantee you I'm only the first): Retention rates are dead on. If you are seeing otherwise, it's because you haven't opened enough chests yet and you're just getting lucky/unlucky in the short run, or you're not paying enough attention. In the long run, they work out just like they say.

This topic comes up about once a month, btw

Anything that's in percentages can't be noticed in practice most of the time, same goes for droprates and retain rates.

I've actually noticed that I've been retaining them *more* than usual this weekend. Funny.

I've pretty much given up on lockpicks.

I retained 3 times in a row with the first one I ever got, and never had a retain again.

So yeah.

It's all about luck. I've gone through half a dozen picks that lasted only once, and I've had single picks that have lasted half a dozen tries.

QFT. It shows over a prolonged period of time. Everyone who opens chests regularly will tell you they go on prolonged streaks of breaking and prolonged streaks of retaining.

My retention rate should be 62% but this weekend I am up over 80% - very high and using very few picks Very few 5 chest runs breaking 2 picks and none at all breaking 3/5.

And as a poster a few up said, if you run chests long enough you know there is very good and very bad runs out there.

Sometime ago i make a log about my retention, my retention at time i made the log are 50% <> 55%, increase a chest rank and a luck rank, used keys in the same GWEN normal mode chests...

at 100 keys retain 46 lost 54
at 200 keys retain 96 retain 104 lost
stop the log and no more worry about retention...

I am a person that never enter a area without a lockpit and i check log everytime i use a lockpit...

My personal exp about lockpits... you get "rows" of luck or unluck...
Sometimes you open 3, 4, 5, chest with retention of 30% and retain the key, sometimes i open low levels chests with retention of ( i cant renember my retention at low chests, but is something close of 80%) and lose 3 keys in a row, and afhter open 30 chests without losing any key... but at end the % goes close retention...

These are close enough to 50-55% (albeit on the unlucky side). I notice that the "second 100" keys are in fact exactly 50/50.

I'm sure everyone has their own superstitions about retentions (and other chance things). Some of them might even be right. However, especially when you're near 50% chance of either outcome, you're likely to get the occasional long streak (4+) on both sides.

I broke 22 lockpicks opening 100 newbie chests with a 92% retention rate. Worst run of luck was breaking 5 in a row.
