Guild wars for under $20
The Food Man
I went to target the other day... and sure enough on the sale rack... there was the entire guild wars lay out. On a 30% discount rack. Is target allowed to do that? If so... Put some more copies out!! They were sold the next day I came back with my money though.. Sad sad day for me...

I don't understand what you mean exactly. Please be more specific.
What does the "entire Guild Wars lay out(sic)" comprise of? There's 3 campaigns and an expansion to consider. Were all the campaigns each under $20 or just certain ones?

of course target is allowed to sell them at whatever price they deem fit, becuz they have already bought them from anet ditribution. most likly they have had those copies for quite awhile and were trying to get rid of them cheaper to load on new stock.

Retail outlets purchase their products at a price below what they sell at, but they're generally free to set the sell price at what they want. Most products have a Suggested Retail Price/Manufacturer's SRP/Recommended RP/whatever acronym you want to use, but the stores are not normally required to use them.
The origin companies, in this case ArenaNet and NCsoft, normally agree to sell at a set price indefinitely, however, so as not to compete with the retail outlets through which they hope to reach a broader consumer base.
In the realm of retail, space = money. Any space you have taken up by products that aren't sold is space that can't be used for products that will sell. This is true whether you're talking about shelf space or storage space.
When a product has sat too long in storage or on the shelves, they are often sold at a cheaper price, advertised more aggressively, or both. (Some companies have been accused of claiming lower prices on products that either have not changed, or have actually raised in price, hence why advertising is separate.) For products with a limited quantity remaining that they're trying to clear out the last of, this is called a closeout or clearance.
Unless there is some prior agreement that prevents a retail outlet from doing this, selling at a lower price is normally not just legal, but a common business practice.

It's likely that Target has some sort of return policy to the company at a fraction of what they paid. But i bet they still make money selling at $20. Youd be surprised how much companies markup. I work for a retailer backstage and its amazing how much they actually make vs. how much they pay for the actual product.

Now the diamond industry.... don't get me started. We've been taught to spend two to three months salary on an engagement ring that you can't sell back to the store for a fifth of what you buy it for. Huge markup in diamonds and gold.
Buy Opals. They're prettier and way less expensive.

Target had EotN for $10 earlier this year, so this doesn't suprise me.
Factions and Nightfall have both droped in price. Me, I got lucky, got Proph as a gift, spent a $25 gift card on NF (that ended up being priced $35, so I only spent $12-13 after tax), got Factions on sale for $25, and EotN for $10. Total out of pocket cost for all 4 = about $50. A bargain by any other name...

If you check out Amazon.com all the chapters and expansion are below $20 now. It looks like the time for GW is about gone and eventually these bargains will all go back up to horrendous prices as scammers and gougers will buy them up and then want $70+ for them. I saw a "Sid Meiers Alien Crossfire" for $300 recently. lol Only an idiot would pay that, but, you know how collectors are.

I just saw Nightfall on the Target website for $30. That's pretty cheap considering its around $40-$50 elsewhere.
Anyone know where I can get Nightfall for a bargain?

I got all 4, day of release, for a combined total value under 60$.
I wouldn't even consider paying 20$ for any of the games at this point, so whoever buys it is still getting screwed over.

It's the same reason "Import" music CD's are about 5x the price of a normal CD.

Everyone rushes to buy them asap, soon no one is buying them so the stores drop the price in order to try to rope in new customers. Depending on what happens in the next year, and how well the gw community does with the release of gw2, I am going to get a second collection for my wife so we can both play gw together.
I bought all my games when they were new, so I payed full price for them, It will be nice to get a discount on our second set of games.
I'm still waiting for gw to release the bonus mission pack and character slots on a disc sold in stores, I don't like to buy anything online.
