Can you live with a little buff to smiting in PvE?
Gun Pierson
Is it possible to give the smiting line a little boost without making stuff imba? (the creeps will use the skills too ofcourse) I'm aware it's a delicate situation so I'm leaving PvP out of the discussion.
Neither am I talking about godlike stuff. Just a few buffs here and there would make the experience as a smiter in PvE more meaningful and enjoyful imo.
A few examples:
- smite hex: recharge at 10 secs instead of 12 secs
- Smite: few more dmg points if the condition is met
- signets like: Signet of judgment, bane signet, castigation signet can use around '10' points more dmg output imo.
- etc.
Anyway, it's just a suggestion that may open up the monk class a bit.

Im happy with that, pve monks are easy enough to kill mostly anyway, smiters more then most.
Abedeus
Would like it. Maybe unnerf Balthazar's Aura? It was such a nice skill, now scatter makes it useless.
Plus heroes are better at smiting than healing.

I'm totally for better smiting in PvE. If I can't heal, prot or use ursan in PvE atm, you won't get a group. Make smiting a tad better ^^

Put all the signets at 10s recharge.
Make Signet of Judgement KD all adjacent foes as well.
All of the direct damage smiting spells -> 5s recharge
Judge's Intervention -> trigger the next time target ally loses more than 20% of his health

/unsigned for lowering recharge time
/signed for more damage or maybe change some skills descriptions

A faster recharge to smiting spells , a bit more damage and some smiting elites , a buff to [Smiter's Boon] would make smiter monks quite useful.
Gun Pierson
I hope you don't mind I bump this because I want some more reactions from players.
Thank you.
Thank you.

I can live with alot actually, been trying out some smiting build for my 3x monks h/h party would be lovely to have some buffing.

How about a buff to [Strength of Honor]? Maybe give some more damage or cost less energy? It would make sense that anyone enchanted with SoH deals holy damage, too. I think Balthazar's Aura should also get a fix up. Maybe if the effect lasted longer, or the recharge time could be decreased that would be great. I'm fine with the energy cost because it keeps the concept of the skill balanced, otherwise it would have been an elite.
Tyla
^It's already used in the meta, with 3 melee.
But for PvE, buff it to something sane...like...+50 damage!

Yeah, as long it is balanced...

Step 1. [Ether Renewal]
Step 2. [Zealot's Fire]
Step 3. ???
Step 4. Profit!
The only problem with modest PvE buffs to smiting I can think of is farming, but then ANet already buffed Ether Renewal and Shadow Form, so why not? I'm not convinced balance is a consideration in PvE at this point.

Ok fine maybe not AoE KD.

I'd rather they remove the redundant DD skills, or at least make them better.
Some utility or something.
DD skills = boring.

I guess you could. Now that pve is separate from pvp I don't see a reason you couldn't buff the smites. Though most pve monsters with smite are pretty weak anyway.

No matter how awesome smiting is, people will still want the monks to be healers. You can't change that mentality. You "need" 2 heal/prot monks in every team. Making smiting awesome still won't make people want you to run smiting. Healers are a rare and endangered species that will always be in demand.

Well, smiting has always being the weak point of monks in PvE.
But they must aproach the PvE/PvP skills slowly. Not too many changes.

my monk smote her way through all 3 campaigns, so yuss i'd like to see a buff. (my h/h clearly didn't need me ) every other class can do big damage in pve without resorting to ursan.

Smiting is kinda fun, but the recharges are insane.
WTB PvE-friendly Smiting skills recharges ~ 50k

Recharges... Hm... that's good. That would be good approach.
Whenever I go Smiter, I get quite bored, since I must either white too long between signet recharges or my energy gets wasted too soon without secondary profession managements...
What I mean is that each caster profession should do perfectly fine with just Primary and one of their secondary attributes, unlike martial ons which may require two secondaries.

Recharges you say?
[mantra of inscriptions]
Damage increase would be better in my opinion.

What about Ray of Judgement?
For the most part: It's useless in PvE. (MM's in PvE? Rarely.)
It's useless in PvP. (MM's in PvP? Minion Factory. That's it. And it's bad.)
Same thing for Word of Censure. Except it's used nowhere.
It's too energy intensive and the damage is quite meh.

It would be nice but I would say that Devine could use a buff more so than smiting.
Gun Pierson
Signets are free but most of the time they have a long recharge to compensate. Mantra of inscriptions is a must for the signet smiter. So I think a buff in the dmg output may be a better choice. As one must keep in mind there are at least 3 signets in that bar that will recharge faster, if the recharge times get decreased. That way there's more dmg in the same timespan than just buffing the signets will do. On the other hand I wouldn't mind bringing the recharge of the signets to 15 secs, like castigation signet. At the same time a little buff to the dmg of the skills.
When it comes to Word of Censure...I always tried to make sort of a rail gun build with that skill, but even if you can handle the energy, you can't finish off an enemy without using something else as the chain will be interupted when the enemy has less than 33% hp. The skill has potential though, but is a bit unworkable now imo.
Ray of judgement: I experiment with this skill, but never really use it when I'm actually playing. Too expensive, to slow in dmg output.
I understand that Anet wants to take it easy with the skill updates, one step at a time. On the other hand, the smiting line could be a good testing ground imo.

[kirin's wrath][symbol of wrath] the new [searing heat][teinai's heat]?
I Can Cure Cancer
/signed, the only downside I could see to this is that Shards of Orr and other undead laden areas become a bit too easy with the increase in smite dmg. Wait who am I kidding? This is PvE. I'm for the dmg increases, with mantra of inscriptions the recharges become significantly better. Strength of Honor is fine imo, that's probably why it's used in the current meta.

Either a boost to smiting or a greater range of creatures where the double effect that holy damage has against undead takes effect.
At the moment its limited to undead ie to minions and small areas of the game world.
If it worked against undead demonic and other unnatural creatures smiting might be a better proposition.
Creatures natural to this world = normal damage.
Summoned or otherwise unnatural creatures = increased damage
Maybe not always double damage but certainly boosted.

You can already roll through the entire PvE with like, 3 skills on your bar and decent heroes. I don't really see the harm.

Sounds like a challenge
First person to complete all 3 games and the addon using only heroes and 3 skills
btw are the Heroes limited to 3 skills too ?
Makes capping elites a real challenge
