GW Dead GW2
NoXiFy
not many will still be playing GW, unless it goes free or like 10$ for all 4 games.
Songbringer
The servers will still be up for GW1 and I have talked to many who don't like the ideas bieng implemented into GW2. There won't be as many as there are now but I am sure people will still play GW1. Exspecially if w/e you get from having things in your hom helps you significantly in GW2.
technofern
i strongly doubt though that titles will have a strong significance though. On the other hand, a lot of people are still into the pvp of guild wars so i think that that part of GW wont die out very vast....im skeptical about the PvE part though
Lothlorian Sassun
ANET as stated that as long as there is still a player base and as long as they continue to sell GW then the servers will be open on GW1 long after GW2 comes out. New Players to GW continue to come into the game daily. GW2 is still along ways off so there is still plenty of time to finish up GW and still make the jump to GW2 when it comes out.
legendary4321
most of my friends are going to keep playing GW when GW 2 comes out because of pvp. But they herd from somewere that GW2 will have nearly the same kind of PvP in it. Not saying this is true just what I herd.
Balan Makki
It may be (marketing 101) that they'll continue the Hall of Monuments beyond the release, so new players to GW will spend money exploring history. And working on their monuments.

GW1 won't die, i will still play it atleast. You just knwo that people will buy it anyway if they are new to gw2. not just for HOM but to get into the story
cosyfiep
I have no plans to buy gw2....so there will be a few of us still playing gw even after its next generation comes out (when...if?)....
Taisayacho
I hope GW won't die out, I've put wayyy too much of my time into it (over 1000 hours, that's almost two months of solid playing (I think, mental math).
Pleikki
mm. I dont think gw will die. they will cutoff servers so there will be still ppl on playing

Now, it seems like there might be problems if you create a monument, carry it over to a character, and then proceed to generate more achievements on that GW1 character. I don't know if you'll be able to then carry over those new achievements to the GW2 character who's already collected them.
But as best as I can tell, there should be no trouble at all in creating a new GW1 character even after you've already bought, installed, and played GW2, filling their HoM, and then creating a new GW2 character to collect those achievements.
Also, since I can't PM it, and the ban message length didn't leave enough room to explain everything;
Due to the sheer size of the GWG database, it seems that it causes some "lucky" users to have a corrupted database entry, which makes it fail to link their posts to their user page. This is a great inconvenience to users attempting to contact you, and especially moderate, as you have to go through several hoops to get it to work.
The corrupted entry can not be fixed at this time, so the only cure appears to be to make a new account. Your old account has been banned, and you're welcome to create a new one. We may even be able to salvage your old account name, if you like.
I apologize for the inconvenience, especially the connotation a ban carries.

There will probably be about 1/10th of the population left in GW1 for the 1st few weeks, then the elitist nerds will come back after beating GW2 in a couple hours.
Crystal Lake
My theory is that when GW2 comes out that those people who never tried GW1 but really like GW2, will buy GW1. You just can't beat the no-subscription fees. So, even if a lot of people go to the new GW there will be a lot of new people on GW1. GW1 might die after they come out with a GW3 - by then it will be way too dated.
GW1 is mostly likely good for several more years.

Yawgmoth
There is still a constant stream of new players into GW1 and it will be there years after GW2 release. It will certainly be cheaper then, I would expect them to release something like a GW Trilogy edition with access to all 3 campagins.
They won't close servers as long as there will be thousands active players. Even with an active population as low as 10% of the current one the game as a whole will be far from dead, even if some aspects like GvG ATs will probably be a joke with much fewer guilds attending. But thats years away from now.

Age
I would say it won't depending on how well players like GW2 as compared to GW as it has a level cap of 20.This is something GW2 won't have and there players who have invested countless hours on thier GW char. and if they like the char templates of GW 2char.GW may get some addons on to it as well as it can support them.

GW 1 likely won't get much stronger after the release of GW2 but it won't "die" outright either.
If GW2 is recieved well and the community embraces this new chapter lots will move over leaving GW1 with less members, but it won't die from that. Assuming GW2 is a good game lots of people new to the series in GW2 will likely enjoy the first games for a time afterwards as well.
Alternatively if GW2 isn't recieved well by the community many veteran players will either fall back to GW1 until another game comes along that can take it's place or simply become dissolusioned with GW entirely and leave both games.
so in short if GW2 does well GW1 will likely live longer than if GW2 fails
least that's my theory...

Guildwars won't die off because of gw2, if anything kills gw it will be gw.
I am 50/50 on buying gw2 right now, I might not, or I might, just depends.
I will still play GW1 long after gw2 is out. Don't worry, older games don't shut down because newer version come out. Diablo 1 is still played by a few online. Diablo2 lod is still running strong after so many years.
There will still be thousands of players on gw1 after gw2 is released, some due to love of the game, some due to inability to upgrade pc's to run gw2. some who do not have the money to buy the game or upgrade pc's and some who see how anet treats players and refuses to buy another product of ncsoft.

It will probably actually never die.
There are still oficial servers for Lineage I & Ultima Online (it's shard based but there are shards that exist since day 1).
For an example if you want old database servers.

Then there is also the other possibility of other games coming online that offer no monthly fees that offer something different that another group will like and thus splitting the community even more. Plus, also remember what NCsoft did to Auto Assault recently just last august. Just turned off the servers and said adios munchachos this game is kaput. Plus the fact that NCsoft has been stating they are getting out of the gaming industry just can't be sure what's going to happen in the future. Best keep your Diablo 2 game handy.

Heroes/Henchmen killed grouping so why does anyone care if the player base withers in GW1? Most people don't directly interact with others as it is so why should they care if there are 100 or 1 million other people playing?
Bront
People like to hang on, or those of us with limited incomes may stick around GW1 longer simply because we can't or don't want to afford GW2.
Also, with the HoM, there may be some increased demand for GW1 after GW2 comes out if the rewards for HoM stuff is cool enough.

I think Guild Wars is already dead, if not it's close. Guild Wars 2 will surely clear out the rest of the population.

anyway, It won't die out or at least not quickly, I do plan on getting GW2 when it's out but I will still be playing GW1 just to max titles, see the story again (I like the story) and even do some pvp. Plus I hope in GW2 that the story goes from dark and depressing (it seems like that from the movement of the world thingy) to happy by the end of it <_<
I also have to wait to see the system requirements for GW2, I know my comp will run it but if its too high for my girlfriend, I won't have her to play with until she gets a better comp (but she can run GW:EN on highish more or less so heres hoping)

It was woefully unpopular. Guild Wars is not, coupled with the fact it's not really an MMO, and doesn't cost as much to keep runing, means it's unlikely to be shut down, for as long as people are still playing.
And remember, there's the Hall of Monuments, I could see a lot of people going back, or even new players joining the original GW once GW2 is out and we learn what the rewards are.

I think NCsoft should get out of the gaming buisness because they suck at it. They are experts at making annoying/disappointing/frustrating games that reward the players with very little.
GW1 will always have a player base, even a small one. take away all the players who find other games they like, newer version of gw, or simply grow tired of gaming. There will always be the original gw fanatics who adore this game. I for one wouldnt be to upset if they did shut down gw1.

OCD. Which makes me giggle, Picture the hard core collector who has every item in the game, now picture his internet failing for a week and he misses one event and misses one mask, now he can never truely gain one of each item in the game. He goes insane. (insert giggle here).

GW is not dead, I honestly don't see it dying after GW2 comes out. I do anticipate the player base to become smaller and most of the missions to appear deserted for at least the first few weeks after GW2 is released. But then, after everyone has gone through GW2 I suspect a lot of people would still go back and play certain areas in GW.
