Does anyone just play for fun anymore?

With all the talk of farming, and anti-farming codes, and title maxing and boting etc. Does anyone just play the game for fun? I do. Yes i like maxing titles, but if I find something boring, well i'll move on. Yes i've done a bit of grind here and there to a)max said titles, or b)make some money, but mainly i play the game. I do the quests, I do the elite missions (fow/uw/dungeons etc) i do the missions, I pug I h/h, and I have fun. I also do the occasional pvp, at which I am getting better. I play different characters, working my way through the missions etc, mainly because they allow me to experience the game in a different way. Am I alone here? Or is everyone obssesed with money and titles?

I love playing for fun too, went through about a 2-3 month stage of only helping other people. Good fun re-visiting old missions/quests and making friends along the way.
Love casual pvp too, a bit of ab here and there, sometimes going into HA but most ppl there dont want casual players.
Pve wise i tend to only go out with another person in party just for more of a laugh, and love doing fow/uw with guidlies using completely random builds. only balance about the team is trying to balance the professions roughly :P
im sure there are thousands out there who dont care about having the most titles, just playing for fun.....well i hope.

I'm playing for fun as well, though I do it through goal-setting. If I think a dungeon will be fun I'll head off and have a whack at it. Same with titles, Hard Mode and the like.
I have no friends online though, so actually doing stuff can be quite hard a times >.>

My fun was maxing titles, but seeing as I'm at 28 now, I need to farm to be able to max the others =)
So meh.. I'll probably quit for a month orso ^^.

i still play because i still think GW is fun, despite all its flaws.
there's no other game out there that plays like GW. its control system is one of the best there is.

I play for fun, yes. Titles don't interest me at all, and I only farm when I really want something new.
Though it's starting to become harder, and more boring, as more and more of my friends quit and move on to other games/things.

Me and my wife play quite a bit just for fun. Its our "Cheap Date Night" we get do missions, dungeons and try to capture elites. We have been playing since December. Its fun, we have a great time and its a hell of a lot cheaper that going out all the time We read up on builds and stratagies for different missions. We both have all the chapters so we pick different ones and do different things with different characters to keep it interesting. If we keep getting wiped in some area we take a brake and play a different area and come back another day. We have a lot of Fun playing Guild wars together and the occasional Fight.. LMAO Its a Great game, i am glad i picked it up and i am glad that she likes gaming as much as i do
Turtle222
yes more and more these days i pug whenever i can, even though i can go through a mission easily with h/h. I find it facinating what people can come up with, and one or two builds surprise me at originality.

I used to play for fun until the Nazis took over, rounded up all GW players into concentration camps, and started making us play 24/7 or be gassed. My jailor promises to let me go when I get 30 titles, but I wouldn't trust the fascist scum to kiss his mother without slipping a knife between her shoulder blades.

I hate the storyline. The missions got boring pretty fast (after my 2nd or 3rd play). I really love the gameplay so I got into farming; it's what's keeping me in the game right now. I go through phases where I'll get bored of it, so there are weeks where I'll log on to see if my friends are on and if they are doing anything, if not I log back off and go play something else. Just like any other game, if I don't have fun, I stop playing.
Neo Nugget
I try to, i've had a lot of fun spirit spamming in RA the past few days, which has gotten me to play more. It works toward that nifty zaishin title also
I hate maxing titles btw, too boring.

I personally don't get what is so fun about farming and amassing loads of gold. I have a friend that is baffled at the fact that I can't stand farming. IIRC, he asked, "You don't think getting gold is fun? What the hell is wrong with you?"
Title grinding is the same and I really only have titles as a result of doing the things I like to do: AB, missions, cartography.

I enjoy picking up perceptive newbie, helping with mission or so, explaining some useful basic stuff and giving pointers on build (nothing nasty, but i will NOT let ranger keep using heal party :-) ).
I found that once people get solid basics their enjoyment of game goes up because game stops being frustrating.

I play for fun, but I do find getting titles fun. I enjoy the challenge in doing things on my Necro I haven't done on my other toons. I don't always enjoy farming, but if I get bored doing other things, I do enjoy Puging FoW with my monk

...but it's not that GW has a lot of flaws, its just that ALL the other games are so messy that you cant even spot the flaws in it ( especially when it comes to professions balance ).

YES!! I play for fun, i think this is why i've been able to completely enjoy Guild Wars for the 3 whole years i've been playing it. Never once have a took a year break or something like a lot of people have, i believe it or not, have been having a lot of fun all the while Guild Wars has been out. There were some months where i'd play a lot more often than others, but for the most part i've been playing all the while.
I consider myself a casual player who just plays for fun. Just playing through the game, doing what _I_ find fun, doing what _I_ like to do, is just how the game should be enjoyed. I'll be damned if i'm going to subject myself to hours and hours of grinding to impress some other person with a meaningless title (I have grinded my portion of titles, but i'm only at r3 KoaBD, and i've gotten there at my own slow pace.).
Honestly though i think a lot more people would enjoy GW a lot more if they cut the serious bsns act and just played the game for their own damn fun and welfare. It's really enjoyable.

The only time I haven't played for fun entirely was for FoW armor. I just wanted it because it would've been a satisfying personal achievement for me (and it was very worth it). Aside from that, if you're not playing for fun, than you're missing the point of games.

Fun? Whats fun? Only winning is important. It make me feel good.....
Srsly, sometimes I play for fun- in Fort Aspenwood, because pwning noobs makes me feel better than I am.

Plenty of people play for fun. I did before I was banned. You just have to look for those that are in guilds that are laid back and like to enjoy themselves.

I have just (within the past week) returned to GW after not playing for a year. When I was playing in the past I became extreme with it. Had to have the titles, had to play PVP, had to GVG had to do everything. I even created a Guild Web site. Then I burned out.
Now I have returned. I am starting out slow and I am only doing what I want and what I am having fun doing. So now yes I am playing for fun.

After almost 3 years, I'm still having fun and it doesn't really matter what I'm doing - farming, working on a title, doing missions with pugs, helping newbies through some of the more difficult missions - I wouldn't still be doing it if it wasn't fun.
I helped some random player with Abaddon's Mouth and Hell's Precipice the other night (he needed the missions and bonuses for Protector title) and, in the middle of it, he stops and asks me why I'm taking the time to help a newb like himself. All I could say was that I loved the game and I was having fun and if I wasn't helping him I'd just be out killing stuff with H&H.

Only for fun!
I'm by no means a "leet" player, and I know that. So, I set my own goals, try out new builds, and just have fun! One of my favorite toons is my Mesmer, with whom I really started to learn the game. Then, I discovered the Survivor title (quite by accident), and have since upped my game play even more by pursuing that - without farming or the Kilroy punchout-thingy - and have gotten my 1st LS on a Rit. Now, I scrap any character who doesn't make it to at least r1 Survivor!
Currently working on a Ranger, and using her to unlock EotN Heroes - going for Livia next. Then, the Charr ranger.
Haven't had much fun PUGging - Dzagonur Bastion was ::shudder:: trying to beat that way. And my 1 encounter with a Guild left me with a poor impression. I'm sure there are good ones out there, just don't know how you find one! (Are they ranked somewhere? Getting spammed at: "Hey, want to join my guild?" doesn't get my interest.)
PvE only, really, except for the H&H parts of PvP to get faction and unlock skills for my Heroes that I haven't run across yet in the campaigns. PvP was too much "jump in and just do it" with no guidance for me, and I didn't really enjoy it. I'd like to have some idea wtf I'm doing when I play! Maybe, one day - but with the further split between the two, it's doubtful. Only way to learn is to do it, I guess...
Anyway - for fun! That's the whole point of it, isn't it?

I just have fun farming FoW/UW or some random off-the-radar obscure farm just for kicks. Beat the campaigns etc multiple times so there's no real need for me to repeat those, although going back to help out newbs is nice here and there. Maybe I should do that for a month again, see if it's still fun.

"play for fun" sounds really weird to me, if u play and its fun, its play for fun isnt it?

I have my main character (Mesmer), I'm still just working my way through the story in order with her (just moving on to Nightfall now) and I have one of each other character class (all level 20).
I've never been to ab, hm, dungeons, or any of those places yet. I have never farmed, that would feel too much like work for me and I have no titles maxed.
I play with a mate (an out of game friend) when we can play together and aside from the occassional aiming for an elite capture or collector weapon spot, its all about the quests and missions and its still just fun (sometimes I probably play a bit too much).
I have no high end items I'm after, I have a couple of the elite armors, but mostly they aren't even my favourites, so I'm not fussed about those either, titles don't interest me and I am going to try not to move on to GW2, so minipet collections are not a drive either. Its nice to not worry.

i've BEEN playing for fun since NF came out. i quit gvg'ing (outside of friendly guesting), and HA'ing back a long time ago, and now all i do is either help lower level folks in pve and try to make new friends, or i'll goof in RA lol.
Rhaenys
If you're not playing for fun, why bother playing? I would hope that everybody playing Guild Wars WANTS to be doing what they're doing.
Owik Gall
I play for fun by going into AB. It think it's wonderful that big groups compete against each other in a massive fight fest. Same goes for Heroes Accent, although that's how it was when I last saw it, but I haven't seen any of the fights there in ages. Besides, I bet the basis of these PvP competitions is so we can still have fun with the game (and so that the game can stay alive.) I wouldn't be surprised if it was just because of the massive PvPs the game would still have a lot of players when GW2 comes out.
NeHoMaR
I play Random Arenas 95% of the time played this days. And because I am Gladiator 5, and going to Gladiator 6, 7 .. look long and hard, I am now playing for full fun, not even for the keys. That's a very interesting way to play, not thinking in any accomplishment at all, just fun.
quickmonty
Play: fun or jest, as opposed to seriousness.
Yes, I play for fun, not seriousness.

I play for fun and to hang out with friends. I've basically put the game down for the last month because I didn't have anything left to do and everybody else was starting to play on a free WoW server. :|

I am pretty sure everyone plays gw for fun just a different fun...I am pretty casual player and I find fun in everyting above ( well maybe not titles, since i have 15 lvl 20s or even more and not one of them has 5 titles max) just depends what I am in mood for, sometimes RA is fun, sometimes farming is great fun, gvg, HA etc. It's different from person to person..That is why I find this thread kinda pointless but that just my opinion.
