Wikia or Wiki???

Well, what I like about the official is that the direct search function I have for it in firefox, works. It doesn't for the unofficial. So mostly, I'll check on the official cause it's a lot faster, but I do a double check on the unofficial from time to time.
There is also, as mentioned, stuff you just can't find on the official.
End conclusion. Use them both.

I generally use Wikia unless something is really missing. Doesn't happen often, but I ran into it last week when I went to wikia to see what the big deal about an Armbrace of Truth was. Doesn't even tell you what you can get for it. I would have added the info, since you can't copyright facts, only the presentation of said facts, but figured there was a reason there was no info there...
Update: Apparently it links to Tormented Item list. Dunno how I missed that. Strange that it doesn't have it on the same page like other collectibles though.

The issues with the wikia take over of guildwiki aside i prefer the official wiki anyway. The layout and navigation is cleaner, articles are written in a more professional and subjective mannor and graphics etc are of a higher quality.
I often see people using the arguement wikia is better because its content is submitted by players, but the same is true of the official wiki. Making such an arguement invalid
As with all wiki's its an open community, if you see information is missing then you can easily add it yourself. With the talks of further integration into the game come gw2 the official wiki will benefit players more than wikia.

The thing about the official wiki is that the majority of groundwork was done by the leading lights of the unofficial wiki. They were given a fresh start and tried to avoid making the same mistakes that the old one did (no build pages was a given
)
It hasn't been an easy ride - wikis never are. When ANY policy decision is subject to discussion, re-discussion and eventual consensus, it makes for a far from perfect and time consuming end product.
It has been suggested in the past that the official wiki be run as a meritocracy which, in my opinion, would be a good idea. Obviously, that idea will never reach consensus!
I love the official wiki - it has many, many ours of my blood, sweat and tears ingrained in it. I originally entered every elite skill in the game (bar one or two that got sniped) - and I'm responsible for all the damage ranges etc. being in green text, just like in-game (managed to get consensus on that one
)
Sadly, I very rarely edit nowadays, due to it being blocked at work - but I still like to think there's a piece of me in there.

The official wiki also has more fact. Wikia seems to go for more opinion.

Depending on the information I am looking for, I will research something on one, and then look it up and read the other one also.
Knowing is half the battle.
