"Test Computer" on Login Screen
Loony

Anyone else got something like this? *Just so I know its not me (scared to click it, looks a bit dodgy all squished like that :P)

apoggy
I saw it and refrained from clicking also
Tab
I tried it, it just tells you some shit about your hardware and ping. Nice use of dev time imo.
seut
seems to be doing the same as "gw.exe -diag"

I clicked it, it's just fine. It's a diagnostic tool as well so it's really useful for finding out problems that you have with Guild Wars, and also helps A-Net support diagnose problems as well.
There's nothing wrong with it, all it does is runs a quick test and produces results in a notepad.
And for it being squished, that's an interface issue which A-Net will fix shortly.

Update – 29 May 2008 Support Features Added the “Test My Computer” option to the login screen. Clicking this link launches a diagnostic test that measures: Adapter settings Network connections External address Server connectivity Network paths DirectX diagnostics When the test is complete, click “View Results” to open a text file with a list of the testing results. These results are useful to diagnose connection and playability problems, and will lead to faster resolution of open support tickets. This file is saved to your root Guild Wars directory, which is by default located in C:\Program Files\Guild Wars on Windows XP, and C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\Guild Wars on Windows Vista. Added a hotkey combination to address a video problem where the screen resolution would sometimes get stuck in a higher mode than the computer could render. Holding down CTRL-ALT-SHIFT while launching Guild Wars will now reset the resolution to 800x600. Bug Fixes Fixed a bug that caused some disguise tonics to interact improperly with Junundu form in Guild Wars: Nightfall. Fixed a bug that caused the Ranger skill Distracting Shot to not receive a damage increase from some Preparations. Fixed a bug that caused the Paragon skill Cruel Spear to inflict Deep Wound even if it was blocked. Fixed a bug that caused the Paragon skill “Brace Yourself!” to not affect self-knockdowns, such as Grapple. Fixed a bug that caused skill templates that included PvP skills to become blank when the template name was changed. Miscellaneous Scrolls of Hero’s Insight received from the Imperial Quartermaster in Kaineng Center will now appropriately stack with the same scrolls bought from scroll traders. Spafrod Iceblood in Sacnoth Valley now correctly drops his own green item instead of Lord Glacius’ Staff. Sol Pyrrhus in Stingray Strand can now craft armor rating 51 Monk Pants. Updated the sale value of Tempered Glass Vials to match their crafting cost of 20 gold. Clay Bricks have been removed from all material crafter inventories. |

The "PC check" thing is nice but it would also be nice to understand what the heck the report means.
To me its all some obscure mumbo jumbo tech stuff and it gave me a nose bleed trying to read it.

"A Clay Brick was a rare crafting material available from artisans in exchange for 1 Brick of Mud, 1 Pile of Glittering Dust and 20 gold. As there are no known sources of Bricks of Mud, it was impossible to craft Clay Bricks. This material was removed from artisans in the May 29, 2008 update."
Were clay bricks even used for armor or anything?
I'm actually surprised with this update though. Anet is actually improving their support system which is good. But ya, it would be kinda nice to know what the report means, at least any info that we should know about haha.

First it checks, if your network settings are setup correctly to be able to communicate with the GW network.
Then it checks for the quality of your connection to various servers of the GW network.
Lastly it gathers informations about possible hardware and software problems that might prohibit GW from running correctly.
This file is supposed to be sent to support, if they ask for it. The tool itself is in GW since release, but support probably had a hard time to explain to non tech savvy players how to copy and change the game shortcut to run that diagnose ("gw.exe - diag" does the same job).

Well roughly, i'd like to know the result of the tests in plain language. I know my way around a PC, whats safe and whats not, how to clean it and running smoothly.
Maybe adding some small paragraph at the end of the report saying in short if graph card is: optimal, very good, good, lousy or crappy. Same with the other stuff the little test does so the illeterate me can comprehend what its talking about.
If you know HijackThis (cleaning and diagnostic program for PC) there,s a web site you can go and it analyze your report and gives you the report in a format most ppl can understand.
Something similar would be nice, or anything that would ''translate'' the report in a comprehensive format.
As of now, the only thing i get from the report is some heavy nose bleed.
