Lately, I have been getting random freezes on Guild Wars. Everything other than Guild Wars would be working. But Guild Wars will be frozen, and it would be back between 5 - 120 seconds. And after it comes back, it would freeze again for the same amount of time. Any reason why this is happening?

I'm having the same problem, whether I run it under Windows or under Wine.

In windows, I go into the task manager's process list (not application list) and kill gw.exe.

In Linux(Wine), I killall -9 wine.

This should kill the gw process. Then restart the game and, with luck, it will let you reconnect.

If you're running vista, it could just be the video drivers crashing and vista taking a while to restore. If you think thats the problem, see if theres an update to your drivers or try older drivers. If you dont think thats the problem try using contig to defrag the gw.dat file. Windows disk defragmenter can't handle files as large as gw.dat gets so you will need to use contig. Also try closing anything in the background. If this helps you can restart programs one by one to see what might have caused the problem.

Please provide your computer specs so we can go from there.

In the mean time, have you;

*Updated Drivers? If so, they might be bugged, try rolling back. If you haven't, maybe try to.

*Dusted out PC and especially video card?

*Defragged?

Could help, but knowing your computer specs would be ideal too.

describe the freeze. is it a application freeze where you can still move your mouse/the keyboard still operates? or does the whole system lock up?

I have the same thing...it's my vista drivers crashing. Guild Wars at least recovers, TF2 doesn't...it just freezes then crashes...

I really wish Vista and Nvidia would fix these bloody driver issues. They're driving me mad.

If you're using 175.XX drivers try going back to 169.xx I had tons of problems with 175, lower fps, crashing GW and Nvidia control panel crashes.

In my case, it appears to be a network issue. All applications continue working, web browsers continue to function, etc...Inside the GW client, I can click on things and get normal reaction (move symbol appears when I click on the ground, skills on the bar show their activation animations, I can click on a mob and have my targeting bar change...) but nothing happens...

Remember once it happened when I had a low-level Conjure Phantasm on me. It ended up lasting for 45 seconds...

Thank you for all the responses. I updated my drivers. I did not freeze for a couple days. But the problem came back.
