Droks Running: One of the best things to do in GW...
mazza558
After playing mindless missions, I thought it'd be good to get back into running. I remember leaving it after a particularly harsh nerf to some (back then) key skills. Droks runs cost upwards of 6k per person due to more and tougher AI in the area.
I did a few runs with the new Perma-SF runner for 2k per person, and I think the balance is just right. Sure, you can steamroll the first 2 areas with little to no trouble, by the time you get to Snake Dance, you are confronted by (for those who don't know the Droks run) loads and loads of Tundra Giants with knockdowns.
Even with SF, these require careful aggroing, as you might end up getting SF interrupted. It's very thrilling to do the run still, even if it's 10 times easier now. The knowledge that 5 people have already paid 1k each puts more pressure on you, and the fact that if SF goes down, you're doomed, makes the Droks run so much more fun than general PvE, in my opinion. It almost feels like a minigame.
The rewards aren't bad either, as you get about 10k per run, which is pretty good compared to Raptor farming. Finally, you get fun out of helping other people - they're usually very grateful.

I think a dervish with "I Am Unstoppable!" could outrun the sin even in Lornars (unless they un-nerf siphon speed).
Dervish's bane is Chillblains, but thats Perma-SF bane too..

I thought the dervish used Vow of silence?
sLiceR
sorry, I missed the update to chillblains. Either way, Vow of Silence will block that too since thats a spell with a target.

You mighta wanna try the build out in the rest of the Shiverpeaks Me and my gf ran the entire place on our Sins (after getting infused for that last bit), just to see if it was possible. You'd make more money out of a Shiverpeaks tour
I find running kinda boring though, and I get lost easily...hehe

I think the Droks run if something everyone should try and complete once.
I did it a few times when I was new to GW and I have to admit that it gave me tremendous pride at the time to have actually done it.

I remember doing this first as a W/R, but with "I am unstoppable!" and maybe Dwarvern stability too, it's easy for anyone; there are so many running skills now, but it's still a good run.
Another nice run is the Clockwise fissure circuit, but that's just for competition

I retired from running droks years ago, too many no pays. Now the run is a lot cheaper, I remember getting 10k+ per run. And I ran it with a W/E.

This run used to be a lot harder before some new classes and skills were introduced. Now it's a walk in the park.

If this is one of the best things to do in GW, it is better not to play GW anymore...^^

Agree, I loved forge running on my ranger. Now its nothing special with the son/derv/pve skills, but nothing beats that feeling getting through for the first time on a prophesies only character.

I also enjoyed watching others run. I'd pay for a run just to watch. Wouldnt do it now though with the more foolproof builds. Where's the fun in that?
Try it with one of the old warrior builds. Even with the nerfs I had a very high success rate. I made a new running build for my monk that gets her through Droks fairly easily too - but its not one of those mindless anyone can do it builds - there's a fair bit of skill in running and in Droks in particular when you run in the old style. You have to know spawning points exactly, safety zones, how to drop chasers etc. Fun stuff.

I completed the run for fun 2 days ago, just a solo Run, but when I first started to play my guildies decided to fight there way to droks, I was a level 10 warrior getting Destroyed, I had 60DP quickly, but during that run I got a Shiverpeak key and Got a FDS when they were still worth A LOT, it took 3 hours to fight our way down there good times, fun times.
Avarre
I ran Drok's with a Mesmer and I did it for free. Money grubbing Warriors that think they have talent!
Snow Bunny
It was all about Mo/R running.
'twas pro.

Squiffy
R/W was the fastest profession that could drok run. I used to run drok R/W with no hex/condition removal and was still faster than wammo's. Then dervish's came along and ruined running

Although it may be fun, one of the main points of doing this is money. So many other methods top this.
Age
The only thing I can say about this is that with Dervs and Sins today this puts The Warrior really out of business although they were Kings at it.
I still inted on doing it with my Warrior but only as goal.

I used to hope that Anet would add serious running quests. That would be neat!

Wait....
...This isn't a QQ thread about SF or Guild Wars Updates?
What are you doing posting in the Riverside Inn???
Aside from that, it's good to know you're having fun again. I might just hit up the old droks run with my assassin again. Haven't done it in over a year and it seems like you're getting a kick out of it. I'd like to see how exciting it is now. Nice thread.

It's weird to see a positive post on guru nowadays so yeah, on topic... I remember those days, good times.
