Need help with monitor please!
Burton2000
Hi, basically I turned on my computer today and there's a big black line down the left of it. Heres a picture of it.
Now the solution would seem obvious, just use the monitor controls, but no none of them work. I've tried changing resolutions and all my drivers are the latest ones. I really have no idea of what to do to fix it. Is my monitor broken or what?
Please help.

Hmm.. go to the ''Change Flat Panel Scaling'' in that control panel and mess around with the options in there. It should have the ''Use my monitor's built in scaling'' option on though.. I think.
If all else fails, your monitor is borked and you need a new one.
EDIT: Wait, I see that you don't have that option.. err, hmm. Have you updated drivers recently? If not, try doing so, if so, try rolling back.

You need to find the option under the NVCpl (control panel) that says "Change Flat Panel Scaling" Look at the available options. If it is already using your monitors built in scaling, switch it to "Use NVIDIA Scaling"
Also, make sure you are setup to only use one monitor. You can see that option in "Set up multiple displays" or by right clicking the desktop, going to Personalize, then Display Settings, and viewing the monitor tab. You should only see one monitor that is active. If other monitors are active, disable them via that menu or the NVCpl.
If either of those fixes do not work, then tell us so we can recommend the next step.
EDIT!: You need to have the NV Control Panel in advanced mode in order to see scaling options, or update your drivers if it is still not present.

That's not a big black line. A big black line would mean those particular pixels are burned out, yet?
Your scaling ratios are just buggered. Your monitor thinks its something like 3x3 instead of 4x3, so it doesn't use that part of the screen. As for solutions, I have none, listen to the kids above.

Actually, if it just suddenly happened when you turned it on, and not after you had made some adjustment, it is quite possible that your monitor is toast.
However, it looks obviously like a CRT monitor, so check to see if it has on screen controls which allow you to adjust various widths and positions. You might also try some sort of "auto" setting if there is one.

Actually it looks like a TFT-LCD monitor, I just looked up that model and that's the only thing I found on it, LCD monitor.
They do have multiple refresh rate selections yes, but that is probably because they're on VGA. It did the same for me when I used to use VGA, now I use DVI and it's locked at 60hz.

I swear all LCD monitors have an "auto adjust" function that when pressed, automatically fixes the scaling.
If your monitor is 17-19", then your resolution is fine, it's more of a scaling issue with your monitor.

Yeah, both of my LCD monitors have an auto button which automatically scales and adjusts the screen, it's really nifty.
EDIT: If the OP tries all settings and nothing works, try using a new VGA cable or a DVI cable. My old VGA cable would make wavey lines on my screen (like the heat rising over a fire almost* when it would get hot in my room, switching to DVI fixed that.

Yes, I have a cookie store nearby, and if my solution was the reason, I will order in a fresh baked cookie tonight for desert. Tell ussss!
(I am going to order the cookie either way, but I still like hearing I was right)
