i didn't see a suggestion for a title quite like this, so sorry if it's been suggested before. and please, no posts saying "no more titles!". this isn't a thread for debating whether or not any new titles should be added to the game. thx.

what i'm suggesting is a title that is given by other players to someone for simply being nice in the game. for example, a person does something nice (whether it be simply answering a question or helping a player through a mission, etc.) then the other person would type something like "/nice <player's name>" and it would give them a "nice point" or whatever.

there would be no way to deduct from a person's niceness points, so it couldn't be abused that way. the only way i could see it getting abused is if a person either recruits friends to give him points or, god forbid, pays people to give him points. my only counter to that would be to limit the number of times a person could give a nice point to a specific character, like person A could only give person B one nice point per day.

there could be maybe 3 ranks to this title, with r3 being something like "nice guys finish first" lol perhaps even some sort of special bonus could be given to anyone who gets r3 to increase the incentive of getting there. yes, that may be a bit unfair to other titles but if lots of people were out to get a max nice title, it would only help the game, in my opinion. i would much rather see stuff like "helping with mish for nice points!" than "helping with mish for 2k" or whatever. some of the people new to the game actually might get legit answers to questions, rather than no answers and/or "noob" flames.

i would be really surprised if something like this was ever actually implemented in the game, but i think it's a good idea none the less.

I think the idea is good but whether or not the execution would work is debatable.

I do like the idea of people getting "nice" (maybe change the name) instead of paying and the fact that you can only get a certain amount of points from a certain person per day.

When you say insentive, what sort of insentive are you talking about?

How about those with more than 1 account(s) or more than 1 friend(s) ?
Could easily get themselves to the maxed rank of the title.

The idea is nice, but i can already see people spamming:

So yeh, i dont think it will work out the way you have in mind

I like the idea however, it doesnt cost anything to give a nice point so:
" WTB NICE POINTS WTS NICEPOINTS KK??? " would be spammed bigtime.

bad idea because of the above stated reasons.

Nice people don't need a title to help out others, they do so because they like to.

Yeah, this'll turn into another money title. Nice people help BECAUSE they're nice, not because they're getting something out of it.

Decency for it's own sake is reward enough. I doubt that this would be a buyable title because there's no way for the person who is paying for votes to be assured of actually getting the vote he payed for:

Aspiring "Nice" guy: WTB nice votes, 100g ea
Not So Nice Guy: Sure! I'll vote for you!
100g exchanges hands(how do you put a vote in the trade window?)
Not So Nice Guy: Thanks for the 100g, NOOB!!!

What would be more likely is that guildies/alliance members would just spend enough time voting for each other for them all to have the title.

I think 2 good new titles should be:

collect all the 15k armors (or higher) of the game on the same char, and should work on 4 levels like vanquisher or explorer title (example: Boutique of Tyria, Cantha, Elona and Legendary one) quite expensive but not useless like drunken, party animal and sweet tooth

Do all the secondary quest given all around the 3 continents+gwen in HM (should be a bit long but nice for true pvers)

Also a title based on experience gained should be nice (like survivor but without the "deaths") maybe 3 rank, first at 5 millions xp, second at 20 millions xp, last at 50 millions xp (good for nerd/farmer)

Maybe make it like the report function? You need to choose a certain box for the reason they were nice.

x Gave me a Helpful Tip
x Helped me through mission
x Blah blah
x Blahblahx2

Abuse of this function may result in a ban.

I'm not creative, i cant think of any other choices..

But its just an idea to throw out there.

Giving a kid a cookie every time they are good doesn't encourage them to see why they should be good. It just makes them do it when they want a cookie. If they don't give a rat's ass about the cookie, you are SOL.

Let the assholes be assholes. Whenever you try to enforce or otherwise influence a certain morality, it always backfires.

I think this has been suggested a few times. The key point is to just make it so there's no real gain in abusing it.
It was discussed in some detail in a thread I made a while back;
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10222269
most people actually supported it.

This would be the easiest title in the game to max. You'd just have to talk to any random person in the game. Offer to give them a "nice point" if they gave you one in return.

hmm... 3million players, maybe 4 characters per player. That's a buttload of points in a very very short space of time.

Worst. Idea. Ever.

I think the difference is that the OP is asking for a title, which many people have already stated is exploitable, while your suggestion proposed multiple ways of rewarding the player, including a simple visual effect.

I would support something like a *ding!*, or a flash over a player, or something that just shows up around the player. If it gets too fancy, it can be one of the 30-second emotes. I don't believe a title track is the way to though, because of how easily that can be abused.

lol, the funny thing is that it seems some people cannot simply say they don't agree with an idea, but have to bash it as well. seems like every idea i've come across (not just my own) to improve the the community gets flamed and flooded with sarcasm by people. precisely why i had the idea to begin with. actually, i think it's every single topic period. i guess the a-holes of the world really do run things or is it all the uptight sarcastic people "in the game" populate message boards as well? *shrugs*

Ummm, there have been a few good reasons given as to why it's a bad idea. Just because people don't agree with you, you don't have to group everyone as retards(surprised you weren't banned for that offensive signature, Mr. "Nice" guy) who disagrees with you.

One: the idea can be exploited.
Two: legislated or paid-for morality never works.

Just keep setting a good example on your own. For every asshole, there will be more than one person that appreciates the deed, and maybe one that will carry it on. That is good enough. Giving a reward for it corrupts the idea.

You want a reward for being nice? Seriously?
Maybe next you'll want to be able to exchange "niceness" points for keys?
