Worth playing without GWEN?
TheLegend92
I have to say, Guild Wars is one of my favorite online RPGs of all time. I have Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall. My computer's been RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOed for about a year now. I've been to lazy to format. But last night I finally got to it, and now I can play GW again. Unfortunately, I don't have GWEN, and can't afford it for quite a while. When GW2 comes out, I won't be able to play it because my computer is not a gaming computer, and can't handle it. I've dumped about $200 into it and it still sucks. I'm running a PCI video card and DDR memory FFS! So, the gist of this boring rant is:
I'm stuck with the original 3 games for quite a while. Is the game still worth playing? Or will my lack of GWEN leave me out of all the action?
Clearly, GWEN isn't too big of a change in terms of new classes, but there's a bunch of new skills. How bad will it suck not having these?
no right or wrong answer, I just want to hear some opinions =]
Thanks,
Richard

If you're a PvEer you should get GW:EN, if you just do PvP then I wouldn't recommend it.
TheLegend92
Yeah, PvP is my true love.
That's not to say I don't like PvE, but oh well, so far I'm all for playing without GWEN. I'm installing now.

If you can live without ursan, you will do fine without Eye of the North.
There are things that I definitely like about EotN though so I would suggest getting it when you can. (It is frequently on sale in my area for around $10-$15. Go to the electronics section of Target whenever you go and check.)

Thank's for the suggestion on where to get GWEN.
My birthday is July 9th and I should score some $$$ Then it's off to Target

I wouldn't get EN just because PuGs in PvE at Elite areas mostly only want Ursan.
EN has a crummy storyline imo, the original three is all that was needed. Having EN helps, with the extra heroes and skills, but don't get it just because of Ursan. Thats all I have to say.
Seeing how your mainly a PvPer, even less reason to get EN. Only get EN if you want the extra skills, heroes, items, and don't run monk for Elite Areas (If you will do elite areas).
In other words, get it if you want, its not terrible (although I don't like the non-charr storyline really), and don't get it JUST for Ursan.

For starters, I don't even know what Ursan is yet
I don't really see a need for additional Heroes, since there's already one for each class. I don't care what they look like. It's not like the new Heroes have better stats or anything. Also, I remember that there are PLENTY of good builds using the original three games' skills. So I'm back in action
And I'll check Target AND CC, since they're right next to each other here
Thanks to all who replied,

I never got GWEN due to it being very PvE based and I'm a PvP'er. But then again...I quite GW just before it's release so obviously I wouldn't have gotten it anyway.
I'm not really bothered about about not getting those extra little bits in GW2 - it will be like a fresh start for me.
But if you're still playing GW then I would get it if I were you, unless you really hate PvE.

I must add that there is an advantage to having the extra heroes. For example, you could then have 3 SF nuker heroes, or the (in)famous Sabway build. Whenever you want two or three of the same profession, the extra heroes from GWEN are certainly helpful. In addition, you could keep each one at a specific build so you don't have to ever change any of your hero's bars or runes (just change which hero you choose when you want a different build).
Also, I've heard speculation that if you can play well with the high settings in GWEN, then you should be able to play with the low settings in GW2. So that could be a good way of judging if your computer can run GW2 when it comes out.

GGG: Go Get GW:EN.
NOW. GO! Every single player must get all content. And the rest should point those that do not and scream: "EEHHHHHHHHHG!!!"

If you can live without crappy pugs, don't care about koabd, don't give a rat's ass about grindy then no, buy a beer instead of GWEN.
Klas
You need GWEN for Ursan.

I've seen ads at places selling GWEN for $10-15. Pretty much no excuse not to get it. Granted its more PvE-oriented, in fact, hugely so, but even when I PvPed I wanted all skills available at the time. Just didnt feel right to me limiting my choices. Can you do without GWEN? Sure.
Legendary Shiz
I've played in high level PvP without GW:EN.
That being said, there have been some builds I haven't been able to run because I didn't have it. All in all, it's probably not worth it unless you're gonna play the storyline.

It'd be a good idea to get for some high-end PvP.
It's required (Ursan) for all high-end PvE.
...I find something very wrong with that....

Meh, I manage to get into Ursan groups on the rare occasion I PvE by monking, thus voiding the need for GW:EN.

ursan for PVE
a few skills for PVP
it doesn't worth 200 bucks on a PC with a PCI graphic card btw!
You can get a core 2 duo PC with $600 or even less

I wouldnt get gwen unless your into pve or like titles. Some aspects of gwen are very neat but it is the least needed chapter.
Kavadas
GWEN is basically nothing but title grinding and highly repeatable PvE content (GWEN doesn't use missions, it uses multi-level dungeons which are generally more difficult and much, much more time consuming).

After playing GWEN for awhile, I'd highly suggest you spend your $12 dollars on a haircut. It lasts twice as long as GWEN.
garethporlest18
I would get it just because it'll keep you unbored for a tiny bit. Dungeons provide a tiny bit of replay and some of the head pieces are cool.

If you want to do high-end PvP, you need GW:EN. [Aura of Stability] is meta on RC bars (dang good skill too), [Patient Spirit] and [Spotless Mind] have become indispensable on HB bars, and then there's the slew of utility skills used all over in HA and GvG.
