HOD sword, worth it???
jet_striker
Ok I am a solo monk, and was interested in purchasing a HOD Sword for solo UW runs... The prices range from 340K-500K+++.
I was wondering for those who have them if it is worth the price.
Or do ppl just like having them in their collection.
Would the HOD with the 20% enchant and 10% furious speed up the farming or would it be a waste of money and time to aquire???
If so what would be a resonalbe price to pay???
A lil help if u could... lol

fiery flame spitter ftw.

fiery flame spitter is cute and all, but I've had a HoD since before the nerf, so I use that... if I didn't have my HoD, I wouldn't bother buying one, I'd go for a flame spitter.
KamikazeChicken
I love my HoD on my healing monk, but I'd have no idea how it would increase the efficiency of a farmer. >.> Granted, I'd never have bought a HoD; I had a number sitting around.
I pwnd U
i dont think its worht it anymore w/ the prices ecto have dropped 2. before when they were up around 16k apeice it was fine but now its just pathetic. 340k+ is not worht it when ecto is this low. just my opinino though
Uzul
the single feature that makes the hod sword so pricy is that its the only sword with build in 5 energy... ANY sword/axe can be your 20%enchant carrier (which is damm useful down there) and have a furious hilt if prefered ...
i used a furious falchion of enchanting... it looks spiffy and it got the job done quiet nicely

Excuse me...
But what is HOD? High occupency vehic--/doh?!
What does it do?
Thanks
I've searched it. But couldn't find anything that told me what it means. Search needs to be improved .

It wont make much of a difference, i still use wanderers armour on my monk for UW solo and i get along fine, i think more energy just makes things a little bit easier, but if you can do it without then theres no need.

The HOD= Sword from Denravi that gave +5 energy and (correct me if im wrong guys ) already has a +20% to enchant on it. The Sword was removed from the game awhile ago so they are VERY limited in Quantity.
To the OP..... can you do the run with out the weapon? How much dmg are you doing while in run that the sword would help? I personaly couldnt stand soloing the UW even when it was unnerfed....It bored the heck out of me. So I go with 2-4 friends and we have fun with it... My monk the poor meat bag she is in that role just takes a beating the rest of the team are the ones who actualy kill the things. Imho I would just get a cheap swod and slap a +20% mod to enchant on it..... But thats just me.... Best of luck!
Edited: HA the poster before beat me to the punch on the HoD... :P

450k for 5 energy.. erm no not worth it at all.

HoD with 20% enchant+20/20 healing anhk= STAT-WISE the best combo for a healing monk, yes I know its not the best for EVERY build. I for one use the collectors deadly cesta with the 20% blood recharge but stat wise it could be considered the best stat wise combo.

If you want a +5 energy thing may I suggest the +5 energy wand that still exists and is right outside of Nolina.

No, wands cant be modded, the HOD can be modded with 2 mods, making it very 1337, why do you think Anet removed it? |

as its been said before 300+k for 5 energy isnt worth it. I mean sure if i had the money i would, but ectos are falling in price all the time, you need 2 now to equal the price of what 1 used to be. i use a smiting rod from a collector in droks and a divine rod from a collector in the crystal desert. thinking about it the +5 energy isnt REALLY gonna help much. the spells that solo monks use cost at least 10 (correct me if im wrong, it's been a while since i broke out the monk) and with balths spirit, and bonetti's you energy is constantly on the recharge. 5 energy isnt gonna help much. Im probably gonna not save up for one BUT if they still cost around 400k forget it [that 400k will come in useful later on]. wait till chap 2, sure there will be a good solo rod in there before they nerf it =D

not worth it at all:
if you solo you'll know you won't need the energy.
if you duo, get your lazy necro to BR you.
You're asking it's uses for a solo monk right? Disregard my rant on other chars. It's a god send on the solo warrior for example.

does that axe with the 2 hilts still exist? or did they delete them
otherwise maybe if you have one with +40 enchant you can smite again with a ele/mo?

If you can afford it, the +5 energy certainly doesn't hurt for solo monk builds (I use one,) but the gain you get for it is quite miniscule. Generally it's used more as a status symbol than for the actual energy, but in a pinch that 5 energy has been known to help out a lot. As for Furious, IMO it's quite silly on a solo monk since if you're smart you won't be attacking. You get enough adrenaline from balths spirit, and casting speed/reaction is everything with this build, so why would you want to delay a cast due to hitting a target with your damageless sword?
think of the difference between a 14>50 bow and a 15>50 bow. The actual difference in damage is VERY miniscule, yet the price difference from one to the other can be 500k+. It's the price of perfection, don't like it then don't buy one
Those are all gone, and good riddance.

Sir Skullcrasher
I brought a Crystalline Sword and i think its more worth it than a HOD sword. But thats just me.
I wouldn't mind getting a HoD sword since the +5 energy would really help me to nuke things or smite!
Too bad that the sword is somewhere above the range of 400K mark from some sellers.

I utilize a 15% always -5 energy vampiric axe and love utilizing the HoD sword as my switch-off weapon.
Basically, it gives me a +10 energy boost AND improves the length of my enchantments, which is great for hit-and-run tactics (giving you that extra energy for Sprint or a healing enchantment) when soloing.
Is it worth 400K? No, but honestly NOTHING in this game is worth that amount given the high quality of collector's items.

you shouldn't need hod sword if you know what u are doing. The only real benfit of that sword is the +20% enchants. I just use a holy rod that gives me +5 energy while enchanted. It's easier to kill nightmares in uw and I didn't have to spend 450k to get it.

Ummm...I have absolutely no idea what you are saying. I have 20 energy with my warrior while wielding the -5 energy axe (seeing that I have a gladiator's chest and leg piece). When I switch off to the HoD sword, I have 30 energy.
So, if I've used all of my 20 energy while playing with my axe and switch off, I have 10 extra energy to play with.
Maybe you're thinking that I have used all 30 of my energy while I have the HoD equipped and switch off to my axe and back to the HoD? ???

hell yea they are worth it.. +5 energy always can put mods on it, 20 enchant mod.. thats godly for solo monks. And another reason why they are so much is.. that you used to be able to craft em from the Henge of Denravi weapon crafter.. now you cant.. you cannot produce more swords, so a limited amounts are left. and the prices will continue to rise most likely

So in the end you want to buy a sword for 400k....sure go ahead its not avalible in game anymore unless you buy it but I can tell you from exp. you dont need it. I can do anything with my monk that I need to without it...and the +5 energy just isnt that much...

Probably didn't help that I screwed up my [math] like a nub ^corrected it in my previouis post^

Actually, the best combo for a healing monk using OoB (not an enchant heavy build, of course) would be Gordac's Needle and 20/20 Healing Focus. You get 2 less eng than HoD, but you get 20% faster recharge on OoB. That's better than 2 eng by an overwhelming amount.
Not to mention, Gordac's Needle is hawt as a black holy rod. (Note: The needle is not a holy rod; the item just has the graphic of a holy rod. >.>)

@sno: Attacking with a 55 build is cute, spinal shivers is love, icy long sword of enchanting yay! HoD love,
Racthoh
It's just 5 more energy for a mesmer to burn off of you. The Fiery Flame Spitter can give you the 20% enchanting, 10% recharge on all spells, and allows you to still focus swap for extra energy.
