Censorship and it's effect on the community

I'm sure the mod was within his/her 'rights'

However deleting ten peoples contributions on a whim because you believe the sole definition of a build is that posted on the Wiki doesn't educate anyone. Such action only conceals the interactions of the community members benign or otherwise.

I'm just wondering how often this sort of censorship occurs around here.

Imo, not enough. Truthfully, I think every moderator has the right to, and should, delete all +1 posts and posts/threads that are pure flames/trolls that have no contribution to others.

That is, afterall, what being a moderator means.

Only on the very rarest of occasions have I seen any mods here use their powers to suppress legitimate viewpoints that they don't personally agree with. Most of the time they are trying to suppress idiocy, albeit with a very limited degree of success. By and large, very little of what gets censored here is anything I'll miss.

It was a pointless thread, yet still his question was answered. Therefore there was no discussion to be had. He asked a (stupid) question, someone answered, the thread was closed before it turned into a "H4H4 YOU N00B" +1 thread.

Not a big deal really. If you want EXTREME oppression and censorship head over to GWO forums. It's so freaking ridiculous there, as much as disagreeing with someone could earn you a ban if you don't cover it up with lots of smilies and whatever else it is that carebears do.

I think the mods are tasked with keeping the forumns in some sort of order. having said that when a super moderaters sig says "people are stupid" and the post was less then diplomatic considering the OP was absolutely innocent in his question, im not sure. after all police dont have "everyone is a criminal" on the side of there patrols instead of to protect and serve. a simple . next tome use the search feature "thread Closed" would have sufficed.
