I own all Guild Wars games, including the expansion. My first character was a Necro in Proph, and my only other character is a Dervish. I would really like to make a new character, either a Ranger or Warrior. But I'm not sure if I should on Prohpecies or Nightfall and for each.

Factions is out of the question because i HATE it. So which profession is 'best' for each campaign.

Proph, Warrior, better looking faces IMO.

Yup,
It really depends on you. If you wanted to fight from a range while being able to do doing degen, Id pick a ranger.
If you wanted a Char that could tank, get a warrior.

Ranger in Elona.

You've already got melee and while a Necro is farther back it's also a spell caster and the Ranger is not.

Ranger is the only class I ever play. As long as you understand that it's more important for a ranger to try and shut down (daze, cripple, blind) enemies than kill them on the bat, you'll have fun. Not so much enchantment box watching like a Dervish and not so much hex spamming like a necro. Unless you go spiking (which you should leave to other classes) or splint barraging (which is actually effective but very dull), don't count on doing anything near adequate damage on the mob. You also feel bad for other classes whenever you take a large elemental damage and think that every other caster took double of what you just took. It kinda feels nice, actually, since the mob usually doesn't give a jack about you.

I'm guessing you'll be planning on getting to Lion's Arch or Consulte docks in order to fetch your heroes. For that, Factions would frankly be the best, seeing you'll already be close to level 20 by that point and you'll only need to put up with the Shing Jea island. If you insisting on hating on Cantha, I'll recommend Nightfall if you're playing through it and Prophecies if you're just running to your heroes. Majority of the quests in Istan are bull (as in they make you pissed off for the hideously obnoxious and completely uninteresting things they make you do) but it's better than trying to complete quests in a heap of ashes they call Ascalon playing music befitting a failing empire made of broken dreams.

-Prophecies - You'll probably find yourself quite bored trying to get through quests in Pre-Searing and Post-Searing Ascalon to get to high enough level for Shiverpeak and such. You can get ran to Lion's Arch, but I suppose you can farm for exp in EotN.

-Nightfall - There are alot of quest grinds in Istan. Quite annoying but can be made easier with good hero builds. I never have fun when I make a character in Nightfall. But then, I never have fun in Ascalon, Northern Shiverpeaks, Istan, or Shing Jea. I just remember Istan for being especially annoying.

Thanks for the input. I wouldn't consider myself an expert player since I don't research the best builds and whatnot, I just play for fun. I think I prefer melee characters because I'll be playing my dervish and then go to my necro and be like wth xD

I am very bored with the beginning of Proph since I've tried to make several different chars in a failed attempt. And I've played through Factions beginning at least 10 times, all with Rangers too.
The though had crossed my mind to start in Factions and then go to L.A. and start playing EotN (I just bought it) when I get there... that sounds nice actually ^^

Thanks again =D

I'd say you do either in Prophecies, better faces, although Warriors on NF aren't that bad.

What I just did with my Prophecies new ranger; I did the mandatory Pre quests (like, 3 quests), got the hell out of there (I find Pre very boring), got a run to LA (like, 3k), got to Cantha and did the Sunspears in Cantha (took a few tries to get a good spawn that wouldn't wipe me (was level 2)) got mah heroes, armor (I don't like Canthan armor), came back to Factions, did the 3k quests (like, 15?) and voilá, level 17. And most heroes level 20. Went back to Prophecies and stickied strictly to primary quests and missions, of course I didn't had half the outposts, but is way shorter if you don't do all those 250 experience crap quests.

Resuming: Make it wherever you like more the faces. Get to Cantha for superspeedy leveling. Good thing in Prophecies is that you can skip the whole storyline by getting runs, and get to level quickly in Cantha. NF has it's own annoying and somewhat regarding quests in Istan, so meh. Now that if you want to do the quests in Pre and Post Ascalon, etc, I did them with my warrior and didn't took me more than two afternoons to make them all up to LA, so it's not that bad if it's your first/second try.

Btw, what the guy above said about rangers, is totally true, you don't deal damage at all. And you shouldn't. Have been lately playing with my warrior, I'm quite dissapointed how fast those Jade Mages die... Most things actually

Oh and scythefromunder said something about tanks. LUL NO PLZ.
