qft, Pre is so well crafted, look, feel, music... (although I wish there were a bit more story) an awesome introduction to Tyria.. Shinjea was really great though, I loved the look & feel, and the music is great.

I think that's one of the reasons people like it so much.. most videogames now try to be so "gritty" & "real" it gets old fast... I like the fact that they make it a place that is not only cool, but genuinely beautiful in a natural way.

Istan just didn't do it for me.. The areas aren't as pretty, music is meh (although the fight music is great)... just kinda meh. Although I love the little stories the quests have, adds a lot more depth to the world than pre & Shingjea.

I like certain parts of all of them:

Pre-Searing:
- Size.
- Maps.
- Music.
- DirectSong bonus music.
- Quests.
- Underground area.
- Plot.
- Gwen.
But I HATE not being able to go back.

Factions:
- Training quests. They are separate and can be taken later when you get other secondary professions. They do help people to learn the stuff.
- You can get to level 20 inside the Beginner area.
- But you have to buy the armors, since the trophies required drop in later areas. When you get the copper coins, you are where the silver drops. When you need a golden one, you are where the silver drop.

Nightfall:
- Heroes.
- Great quests.
- Master quests.
- Event quests.
- Training area.
- Striders and Felines of Melandru.
- Collectors that give armors when you need them.

Pre Searing Ascalon is unbeatable, it's not just a tutorial newbie area but a whole separate subgame, with plenty of players who don't plan on leaving it at all. I

Shing Jea and Istan aren't any bad though, in fact they're both better in terms of teaching new players the game mechanics, the content is designed better from learning point of view.

I like presearing but the content is too small for my likings... the sceneries are awesome, I have some nostalgia when I go there, but it gets boring really fast due to the lack of stuff to do. And yet it remains my fav starting place.

But yeah, I don't get all the people who won't leave pre-sear or spend their entire time in there. I'm sorry but I REALLY don't get it. O_o. (Yeah, I'm a bit sour of losing a couple people to play with 'cause they're in pre all the time...)

Shing Jea is the best designed area for newbies.

I especially like the Instructor Ng tutorials that teaches you what skills can be used to deal with what situations, gives you those said skills for free, but most importantly, he lets you try out the skills in a controlled environment to understand their uses!
Then at Minister Cho's Estate where Master Togo demonstrates the concept of pulling <-- something Rurik failed miserably.

On the other hand, Presearing doesn't teach with a context of when can use what. It just blindly giving you stuffs like [Frenzy]+[Healing Signet] and then [Fire Storm] to spam your way though from start to finish without teaching you anything. Same goes for Istan the tutorials there fails to show newbies what skills can be used when.

@Mithrane: Striders and Melandru's Stalkers were Pre-searing.

Yeah, Pre-searing is nice for nostalgia, but leveling a char from there is zzzzzzzz....

Shing Jea is nice for its foreshadowing, the whole Wutang Monastery feel, and the fact that you need to get through the storyline before you can get off the island.

As for Istan, I wish the cut scene after the Docks was of the Kournans raiding Istan and burning Kamadan to the ground. Oh, and to whoever says Koss never gets the girl...he gets Melonni after the Nundu Bay mission. Bomchikkabowow.

Pre-searing, definitely...gorgeous scenery, relaxed atmosphere, and (two and a half years down the line) the nostalgia. I have a perma-pre character because the only thing I don't like about pre-searing is that you can't go back after you've left. Shing Jea Island is nice and I like the skills usage tutorials in the monestary, and the fact that you can return to the island at any time, but it still suffers from the locked gates. Istan is ok...

At first I thought I had set my heart on pre as being the best. Made new chara a week ago, and start from Faction....

wow... Changed my whole prespective (even after previously made 4 failed then delete ritualist, 2 mesmer and 1 assassin).

The quick level up! the quest rewards!! The tutorials!!! The scenery!!!!

omg.. Feel so glad made my new chara there and would continue to do so if only I have more slots xD

Presearing == Shing Jea >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Istan.

The worst thing is that as bad as Istan is, the whole rest of the nightfall campaign is the same looking areas just slowly getting grayer/darker.

Pre searing and shing jea both have those nice pretty areas with the enemies slowing invading and trying to take over your pretty little towns.

Pre has the Gwen that will follow you around skipping and having fun as you slaughter everything in the area.

The trees are glistening with sunlight as the branches softly flow with the simple soft breezes unaware of the pending doom and destruction that will engulf the Kingdom in as little as 2 years. The majestic beauty of the hills and mountains in the distance brings me back to the simpler childhood times free of worries and strife of the things to come as I grew up looking at the monument that is William Wallace's memorial.

The awareness that nothing can kill me (almost lvl 17 war) as I ascend to King of all the Land, leads me to want to take a blanket outside of the church for a picnic. I would have wurms after I slaughtered 100's of them and cooked them just up the way at the thieves fire.

Some friends would gather around. We would dance and play the flute. I would say, "Eat, drink and be merry", and we would.

Yes these are the things that I think of when someone says...Presearing.

Ascalon: Pre-searing without a doubt. I keep a char there permanently to help out friends and guildies, though few rarely start new chars anymore. And as mentioned previously, if I start a new core char, I always start in Tyria.

Definitely Shing Jea. Pre-searing is a very close second, but I started with Factions, so that probably explains it. Whenever I am fed up with the rest of GW, a simple stroll through Shing Jea, noob island, with the music, it reminds me why I got hooked on the game in the first place. Although I must admit, when I roll a new character, it usually is from Pre.

Istan is a distant third.

Looks like I'm going against the grain here.

Presearing is very pretty - and a great newbie area. But when I want to start another character, it's too slow - it takes forever to get even to Lion's Arch so that you can duck over to another continent for "proper" armour, and not have to waste more money on armour that you'll replace again shortly.

Shing Jea - it's fast, but I'm absolutely sick of it. And it has the problem that there is a very sudden spike in severity - one minute, you're trouncing everything, the next everything's trouncing you. Although, that may be because there's no purpose beyond the attribute point quest to hang around in the newly-opened 4 man area after doing the first mission, and no reason to hang around in the first 6 man area beyond the primary quest that occurs there.

Istan - I found it slow the first time through (trying to get points mainly) - though it was still faster than Prophesies, but going back I've found it almost as fast as Shing Jea. For recent characters, I've never had a problem with getting SS points - just had to remember to talk to the sunspear at each shrine - with the bounties/quest rewards I've generally reached 500 points and all 30 attribute points unlocked by level 8 - far earlier than I can get them anywhere else! That together with:
* the ability to get a lift for full-quality armour from first arrival at Kamadan,
* the ability to have heroes from the beginning,
* pvp unlocks resulting in almost any skill being available in Kamadan from the beginning (starting a new dervish? Start with Mystic Regen!) - this also means that the heroes can be useful from the beginning too,
and I far prefer to start all chars there now if possible. I love the music in Istan - have since I first heard it, and it's still some of my favourite music in all the campaigns. Gaining enough SS points to continue just seems to happen naturally - I don't have to work on it, and usually end up at level 8 somewhere in Vabbi - leaving me with 1/3 of the game still remaining where I can't get any more points. LB points are still a drag though, but they don't prevent you from continuing the game.

So I'd say Istan, then PreSearing, then finally Shing Jea.

LMAO omg truer words have never been spoken.

NF is only good for chars from another campaign. The beginning quests are horrible for ridiculous back and forth mapping and the unsuspected "hey you now have to grind the next sunspear rank if you want to continue playing".

Factions for a quick lvl 20, (before GW:EN and Kilroy's Punchout Extravaganza)

Prophecies is still the most fun for having the best thought out story progression and player/enemy level balance throughout.
