Why Ebon?

On PvX Wiki, many builds require an ebon weapon. Why not a shocking, icy, or fiery weapon? There isn't an earth conjure was why I was wondering...

most people have armor sets vs slashing/piercing/fire damage
ebon is the least accounted for i think
so if your target has extra damage against your piercing daggers you can use your ebon so you won't do less damage
or something like that

It's ebon because earth is the least common ele in PvP so less people carry a shield against it.

Also all ele mods do same damage vrs wars (removes the +20 armor)

people tend to want to counter the basics: ie. 10vs fire, lightning etc as well

The author of that build probably mentions Ebon for the reasons given above. But you have to keep in mind that you actually can change things if you want to - you don't have to slavishly follow every detail of a build.

Unless using a conjure build, any weapon used in say a Shock Axe build or a Dragon Slash or Cripslash or Linebacker bar for an elemental weapon swap could be any elemental mod. The only way you will tell what it is for sure is by seeing them use either a conjure build, very few select skills such as Ebon Dust Aura or Grenths Grasp (icy weapon iirc) or a few select types of weapons aka icy or firey dragon sword, icy bladed axe, ice breaker hammer.

Most people say take ebon because not many people will carry a sheild vs earth damage, well ok maybe in HA or AB where sandstorm eles are more common place.

This makes so much sense and I never even considered it. I created dedicated Fire, Water and Earth Ele chars. By dedicated I mean that all the runes, elites, and greens they each carry are element specific. But I tend to play my Earth ele the most. She seems to consistantly cause the most damage no matter what kind of foe I face. Now I kinda know why.

PvP metagame. The current state of the game, or, in other words, the most commonly used builds, skills and tactics in PvP.

Meta (from Greek: μετά = "after", "beyond", "with"), is a prefix used in English in order to indicate a concept which is an abstraction from another concept, used to complete or add to the latter. The Greek meta is equivalent to the Latin post.

Did they remove Avatars from PvP? I never use dervish skills outside of PvE.

No. They just fell out of favor a bit.

Bsurge got nerfed and signets and hexes are now the most popular anti melee so the anti condition Mel Derv has fallen out of use.

Ah yes, I can definitely attest to that. I use a Me/A build in AB that works fairly well against Ws, Dervs and Sins and, of course, it is hex based.

Hmm. Maybe they should add an new anti-hex avatar.

Which one is that? Pop up isn't working. Yah, it never occurred to me that there already IS an anti-hex avatar. I rarely play my dervish and I only have Melandru and Balthazar.
