What's the best to buy in the $1k-$1.4k range. Need ASAP so my Mom can do her banking and bill paying.
Any advice on where to look and what to avoid appreciated.
Snograt sent me here which probably means I'm doomed.
Need to buy a computer (old one died)

Only planning to do banking and bill paying? You don't really need much of a computer to do that. 1k seems quite high.
Does she plan on using it for other things as well?

Gaming is the main aim - mom's bill paying is a convenient excuse
Here's a starter to get the discussion moving:

Someone will pop in and show you how it's much better to buy components individually and self-build - that's just a Newegg pre-build that's not too shabby.

Well, there was a nifty article awhile back ....goes to look...about a $900 dollar computer that would run Crysis on High smoothly:

Here's the snippet:
Poke around Newegg.com look at reviews, prices, shipping and handling, etc. But I'd start there, cause Crysis is the beast to beat at the moment.... although Fallout 3 is coming....

I'll take a look. Thanks. Is Intel still outperforming Athlon now? I always preferred the Athlon chip in the past.
The "Mom" factor is because of location. I can game anywhere, she can only work on the computer at home with her own mouse/keyboard/printer. Anything else and she gets confused. I can only change out one component at a time, so she can get used to it slowly. (She is 85 after all.)
