Limitation on pinging.
Tyla
Back in that "Ping Weapons" or whatever thread, I saw someone mention getting rid of the entire weapon pinging aspect.
I suggest that we are given a toggle to put a limitation on the amount of "I'm using Whatever!" pinging, of all forms, be it weapons, skills, targets and others.
For places such as Random Arenas, Alliance Battles, Jade Quarry and Fort Aspenwood, you're going to get at least one or two randoms, and sometimes they can just get a bit spam happy with their calling. Don't get me wrong, calling does help sometimes, but if we turn team chat off we turn off all possible communication with the entire party.
A little tickbox with another box which you can input a number which limits how many calls actually go through to your team chat as well will solve this I believe.

It's that simple. Prevents lots of rage, whining, and blown-up blood vessels of carebears all around the lands of Guild Wars.
Click the box, report them, feel incredibly accomplished about yourself and move on. It is thatttttt simple.

I was simply doing some PVP and there was this one guy in our allies who pinged every second throughout the entire 10 minute match. He pinged what skill he was using and what target he was after. It was non-stop and pathetical - everyone in our team got angry, and some people even left. I shut-off team-chat.
Obviously, we lost the match.

the only thing left in this game that is fun is fooling around and pissing people off.

teamchat is good, it helps you spike

We also need a filter for crude penis drawings on the radar compass....
I, for one, would be greatly impressed by a sundering fiery dragon sword of anything.

relying on teamchat for calling gankers/splits or just to train certain targets works though, but using it to spike? lawl

The worst is spamming "I'm dead" in AB/Fort Aspenwood/Jade Quarry.

IMHO, excessive pinging falls into the catergory of spam. No need for the annoyance.
When I encounter someone doing it, I simply say "I'm wielding a stick."

Rather than (or in addition to) a little tickbox to filter out weapon spam, perhaps treat Weapon spam AS spam, and after 2-4 clicks bring up the message "Your message has been surpressed due to excessive messaging"...
Poll added.

yes its annoying but i get them to shut up usually, if not - bye bye monk

Definitely. I don't care what weapon you're wielding. Especially in a game where items don't define victory.

As a normal target caller for my group, I can see some serious problems with this, especially in the middle of a heated fight where enemies might drop like flies.
Sometimes spamming a target is the primary way to get someone's attention that you've switched targets based on prioritization...you might notice a popup group or a patrol that you didn't factor into your original call, and not everyone will know to switch targets if you don't reinforce it with 2-3 repeated target calls.
I know this can be accomplished if you have voice chat, but not everyone has that.

Much more easier to follow caller's target if he spams it. Yes, really.

/not signed, there's a toggle, turn off the chat.

There should be alimit for the same ping line from the same person. 10 seconds would be enough.
Ping HP, and you can only ping it again after it being changed (damage, heal, regen, etc) or after 10 seconds.
Ping eapon, and you can only pin the same weapon+offhand combination after 10 seconds.
That should do.

Edit: Oh btw /notsigned for anti-spam targets calling or i'm using "x" against "y" for the same reasons that Jetdoc is mentionning

Well, it's pretty much for both. As for people saying "Turn team chat off", you're losing the comfort of laughing at the retardation and arse-hattery that goes on in those areas...
Mind you, if it's fully organised you can turn it off as you can *hopefully* trust the people you play with.

i think that more than an imposed pinging limit it would be better (for reasons stated by doc and others) to have a "mute" command/list.
and the list would reset (ie: its a small temporary list) itself when you logged off.
dunno...i'd use it.
