Suggestion to increase storage capacity.
FrAnt1c??
Hey everyone,
I noticed that everyone ( including me ) is complaining that they dont have enough storage space, well here is a possible solution...
Well I got the idea that if you could put items in a bag ( like the ones you use to increase your inventory space ) and then put the bag in your storage, you could increase your storage capacity times 10 ( one slot in storage holds a bag that can hold 10 items, bag + expansion rune ). Now you can only put a bag in your inventory or xunlai chest if the bag is empty.
I don't think this would be too hard to code for arenanet, and in this way people have tons more storage space , because now I see people selling some of their favorite weapons, simply because they don't have the room to store them.
Another suggestion perhaps is that you could add tags to these bags, in order not to mix them up, and making searching for an item easier. For example, the bags you put your shields in, you give the tag "shields", etc...
This has already been done in tons of other RPG's and thus its not something impossible to do.
Anyway this is a relatively easy/simple solution to the storage problem that many players ( including me ) encounter, and in this way the use of so called "storage mules" is no longer needed, or at least not as much as it used to...
So, what do you guys think? Discuss
Don't know if this idea had already been mentioned, but this seems like a decent option?

@ Panais, yeah 10 items, my mistake

Filled bags in inventory worked for other great RPG's, should work for gw too I guess.

It's been suggested before several times, even before the storage upgrade that they did implement. So I'm fairly confident that it's not gonna happen.
So. When you run low on storage space, do what I'll be doing in about 5 minutes: Set up shop in Kamadan and sell off your junk!

/signed While I would love tons more storage like this, I think the reason we have limited storage is too control the economy or something, or so I heard. I guess it limits the number of ecto/armbrace stacks people can have, although I find it hard to believe anyone can actually have that many.

Actually, if you ask any ANet programmer, they'll tell you that what you suggest is harder that just adding more slots.
Bags do NOT 'contain' stuff.
Bags just 'unlock' the inventory space you already have.
That is, the space for each character is fixed and limited. Bags do not increase it. Just reveal it so you can use it.
As always, anytime someone says 'increase storage space'. My answer is the same:
- The more space you have, the more stuff you put inside.
More space never fixes the problem.
UNLOCKING does.
Pay once each armor crafter, save miniatures like hats, common trophies (weapon collectors would trade an amount equivalent to 500gold you can trade an use in all collectors 4 for 125gold collectors, for example, and then use that trophies in all cllectors).
And, of course, also FAST MARKET.
So people don't have to save items and sell them in bulks later, but sell then as soon as they tun out of pace.

Well, you noticed wrong, apparently.
I've been playing the game for almost 3 years, have 8 characters, each with at least 3 armor sets and 4 weapon sets (at least), and I have 2 storage tabs dedicated to weapon mods/runes and have never experienced a storage problem since crafting tabs were put in.
And if you are given 10 tabs in storage and 5 more bags, there will still be whiners about "I CAN'T HOLD ALL MY RAVEN STAVES FROM TROLL FARMINGGGGG!!!!!!!!"
Seriously, Merch all your non-max whites the runes/dyes you will never use and you will never have a storage problem, that's what it's there for, use it.

Next, you don't need to decide for people wheter or not they can put items "they dont need" in their storage, hell, If I want to have a full storage panel filled with glittering dust, its my RED F*CKING GORED RIGHT!
Anyway I got a little carried away, vote yay on more storagespace, so I can buy moar items and keep em all for myself!

Seriously, GW is one of the RPG games with the smallest storage space available per account, mules excluded.

Nothing wrong with more storage space. It means I can put stuff away, rather than carry everything around. Oh, and that I can buy nice useful stuff as well and have a place to keep it.

/signed,
obviously, for the great need of more or even just better storage.
But this isn't exactly the best way they could do it, I'm almost sure coding something like putting bags in storage would be extremelly hard to do in GW and would require redoing the whole system.
The problem is, they went CheapWay(tm) with all the server/networking/data storage technology, with a goal of making an online game that uses minimum possible resources per player. This is why they don't have an open architecture that could allow easy adding of new stuff when needed
There's a fixed space for data storage for both characters and for the whole account, and finding even a few bits of data of free space there is troublesome.
And this is why they coded bags the way they are now - they aren't treated as separate 'objects' with the information of what's inside them saved within their objectspace. The space for bags' contents is fixed within the character's BLOB - there's a reserved amount of space for character's item storage, and having a bag equipped only *unlocks* some of the space for use.
Now we don't know how much 'free' unused space is there in the charecters' files and the account file, can't say whether there is enough space for implementing of any serious storage increase. So there are 2 possible scenarios:
1. There is some space left there for some future updates or increasing the file sizes to add more item storage is simple and easy: Then, they would be most likely to make the update in a way that doesn't require a lot of programmer work for adding something entirely new, so the update would be probably something along the lines of another storage tab, general or specialized, account or character based, maybe with some extra simple restrictions. Enabling putting of full bags in the regular slots in the chest is highly unlikely as it would be something entirely new. If they did special slots for bags in Xunlai, that would be, however, no different than extra tabs, technically.
2. There's no simple way of fitting any extra item data in the char/acc files. Then the best they could do is encouraging the use of other characters as mules. But this system is really flawed, anybody who has 5+++ storage mules should know that having to relog multiple times just to find 1 thing or swap an armor set is just retarded. The thing to do would be some kind of allowing opening of mules' inventories through Xunlai without relogging. This wouldn't be more storage but better storage. And some profit for Anet from selling mule slots.
...and still, a centralized automated trading solution (like that Xunlai Marketplace) would help more than any kind of extra storage solution.

The reason a.net hasn't added more storage isn't because it isn't possible or difficult to code, it just takes more server storage space. Stuff like the material storage works because its only one byte of data per storage unit (since unlike normal storage it doesn't need to record what is in the slot, it just need to know how many).
This suggestion solves nothing. It would take just as much data to store those files. If a.net is going to increase the storage space, then they should just increase it, it would be the exact same result as this suggestion. This suggestion doesn't change the fundamental problem.
I'm /signing for more storage, everybody wants more storage
I'm just /notsigning for this poor way to impliment it

Personally, i think all the problems would be solved with character storage. Each Xunlai chest has an armor & weapon tab for the character you are on. Maybe not even the weapon tab. I mean, i know it really annoys me having to take up a page for my rangers armors (the ones that i use).
It could also be used as a gold sink, which isnt a bad thing.
