slow minimizing/maximizing/exiting etc

whenever i quit giuld wars, or minmize it, or window it etc, it takes a while for the computer to sort itself out, which is annoying when all i want to do is close a program or something. i have seen on friends computers that it goes into windowed mode and that instantly, but not on mine, does anyone know why and how to speed it up? i am running windows vista home premium.
GaaaaaH
alt-enter? it lets you go straight to window mode

no i know how to do it, but when i have been playing, it takes ages for it to load back to my desktop. or is that just the slowness of my computer?

It's a start ^^
Is it a laptop or a desktop?
Do you know what graphics card (if any) it has?
Make and model number would help
Oh, open your Games folder and tell us your Performance Rating (a number between 1.0 and 5.9). It's basic, but will give us some idea.

Aera
What could be the problem is that you play the games on a different refresh rate than your desktop. Set both to max and it should be fixed.
*edit*:
To do that: right mouse click your desktop, properties, settings tab, advanced, monitor tab, refresh rate as high as your monitor goes ( so don't exceed the limit ).
In the games: check the graphics options.

Sounds like an old Dell.
Low to mid-range graphics. I assume you have the same resolution in GW and Windows? (At a guess, 1280x1024?)
