A-net has Guild Wars out of hand, If GW2 fails then this is the end, Do you agree?
runite ringleader
Yes.. i was wondering.
GW2 is a few months out of grasps and for months they said "they weren't going to release new content until GW2". In this case people are very angry (like me) and then place a lot of pressure on the success in GW2. I mean ... it needs to be spectacular in order to stay on guild wars waiting for GW2
So guild wars players have two choices
1. Stay on guild wars (if not bored already) play the boredom out of Guild Wars.
2. Go on a different game and think of coming back to GW2 at its release data (but possibly lose interest in the guild wars 2 franchaise altogether).
If GW2 doesn't succeed and we waited so long for this game then the franchaise will undoubtably fail. They should've released this fact a long time a go, say after factions, and also why not put one a-net team on focusing pleasing the community players with spectacular GW updates while one team focuses on GW2, it makes no sense to focus all their attention to GW2 and then hope for the best for the community.
Please comment on what I have said, thanks.

gw 1 isnt out of hand, so gw 2 wont be out of hand
and you are right there are only 2 choices.. logical...

if they split the Dev team then gw2 would take even longer to make. time = money

GW2 is so far away to even care about. I doubt we will see it till late 2010.

At this point, it's hard to say.
While we can't really tell how the game is going to be, we can think a little bit upon sales. GW1 sold amazingly because it looked really good (for it's time) and it had the bold words "Free-to-play" on the box. But with more and more games following this pattern, GW2 may not have the edge that GW1 possessed. ANet'll have to pull some tricks out of their bags for this one.

They have most resources spent in GW2.
They are trying to go over that. For example, they are planning to get a separate and unique GW1 programmer.

If you don't like Guild Wars, go play WoW instead, we don't need you.

Im pretty sure once another good mmo comes out that i will jump ship. I thought about conan but i think aion or stargate will get my buck. 2 years is just to long to wait for a game with literally nothing new coming to it. Anet should announce that either soemthing new is coming (like a SF update or the BMP or SOMETHING!). Honestly i think they might lose a rather large amount of gamers

Seriously, how many more "The End Is Nigh!" threads do we need?
Just let them make the damn game. It will take them however much time it takes to make it good. If you don't have the patience to wait, that's not the game makers fault.
Oy.

If GW2 isn't everything we've wanted, I think the whole Guild Wars franchise will die. It has to be able to pull all of the players who left for other games back.

Arena Net has loyalists/addicts so they have nothing to fear.
I will just buy Guild Wars 2 so I can add it to my collection of MMO's.

I came from the FPS game genre, because I wanted a more cooperative, less competative game play, and less twitch play game, and fell into GW. I think if I do anything I will go back to some of the good FPS games out there like COD4.
Its tough to switch to another game as you have devoted so much time and knowledge into the game. But having a mature account and being regular player, I think I am at the point of spending all my money and getting everything I ever wanted in the game as there is a sense of the end is approaching (maybe it just me). I have 10 toons (all different classes) and 9 of them have completed all of the chapters and 4 of them have done all the PvE things you can including all the elite missions numerous times, vanquishing and guardian on them. The piece that I enjoy the most with the game is playing with real people, but these opportunites have been increasily frustrating.

Guild Wars isn't out of hand. It's fine as can be, however GW2 was let known way too early. That's what makes everyone on edge about GW1's "lack of concern" and GW2's possibilities.

The Guild Wars 2 beta comes out in a few months, not Guild Wars 2 game.. Ill probably play it just to give the game a chance, but i doubt i will continue GW in college, computer games aren't really my adrenaline rush. Its more like my advanced chat room, which ill enjoy playing for a little, but id pick Wii or XBOX 360 over PC any time...
Kumu Honua
I just started playing last year. I still have Factions to complete. I have also only done this as a Ranger. I have 9 more classes I can try.
Guild Wars won't die. It may stagnate, but it is free, and as a free product, there will always be people willing to play.
Silly premise for this post.

That is a rhetorical question. No one needs to answer it, so what was the point of making the thread in the first place?

i think this just falls into the same rut most games fall into. no new content means less interest. when you have done all the missions worked the farming fingers to the bone, people just meh! im in the same place. I love GW but at the same time im not going to spend hours mindlessly grinding for NO reason at all. i mean why not do something else. hell go walk the dog or something. i would kill for something to do on this game, i love GW. but if someone says "you can try different professions and skill sets, or GASP just use henchies!!!" good lord come on. if you need to create your own yippeeee fun scenarios just to make the game fun then i think were at a "jump the shark" moment here. If the game is new to youo then its massive fun all over the place, if youve been doing this since 05' and your still eeeeek excited about GW then you need a girl friend, boy friend, pet, job, something. cause folks ya been killin the same monsters ad-nauseum.

The problem is that Anet doesn't care about GW nemore. They prob know most gamers are bored to tears, yet they continue to work on GW2. However, most people who are bored are PvErs, which this game's focus was not on. They expected it to be a PvP game, yet most players are embracing PvE. The game itself did not have much depth to begin with.
So yes it is getting out of hand. Yet there are still people playing for some reason.

GW is fine, and they haven't stopped updating it, pve and pvp skills, and new titles have been released sence everyone started crying about how anet needs to keep updating GW.

oh and to OP:
Everything you said was pretty much wrong so that should put some perspective into how unrealistic your expectations are.

GW was and is, and GW2 will be, aimed at a different audience to the classical MMO gamer, or as something additional.
GW2 won't need to replace whatever MMO some players switch to during the next years as it is not going to be a subscription MMO. With a one off payment you don't have to spend all your time on it, I'm sure many MMO gamers buy and play other non-MMO games occasionally, GW2 can to some degree fit into this description, losing gamers to other MMO's is therefore probably not such a huge problem people consider it to be.
If people are not happy enough with GW to be inspired into switching 'back', then there is a good chance they wouldn't have bought GW2 even if they hadn't found an acceptable alternative.
As a game requiring a one off payment it is considerably different to the calssical subscription based MMO, it will likely attract a wider audience, so lack of updates to GW(1) should not IMO have that bad an affect on GW2 sales.

gw economy is indeed pretty messed up, the ectos keep dropping, shards keep rising, and eventually armbraces will rise cause of hom being able to have torment weps. atm i cant think of anything to do in gw so thats why i came to the forum for a while. PvP can only get you so far. they better make gw2 good or they will lose a large amount of players. wow has been able to keep its players as well as getting more players every year.( i dont play wow btw)

I only have Prophecies and Nightfall. I've gotten my $60 worth out of the game, easily. And I'm still working on Nightfall.
Thats all I ask for in a game, getting my money's worth

Guildwars is not out of control
I may disagree with alot of stuff anet has done recently and their lack of support for guildwars but they don't have to be we arent paying them monthly or anything.
I will get gws2 and i dont even care if its a good game or bad i just want to play with all my guildwar friends.
this post is fail and not nesaccary
enough QQ if i wrked at anet all my thoughts and focus woul be towards thinking of new creative ideas for gw2 not fixing bugs for gw1
the people at arena net have good creativity and gw2 is going to be a good game and if you don't think so don't buy it.

With no fees, they have no money coming in, so need to rely on selling more copies in order to maintain their servers.
Unfortunately, if they mess up again with GW2, they arent going to have much of a future for GW.

I personally cannot see GW2 being an epic failure. I can see it:
A: being so vastly different that fans of GW1 will not like it.
and/or
B: being so buggy at first that most people will abandoned it thinking they failed.
I for one am open minded, so I'm not too worried. I am just mildly angered by the fact that I've spent so much time and money only to have to start fresh. I hope they offer more compensation then just the 'Hall of monuments'
