Factions or EOTN?
Absolute Destiny
Greetings all.
I have Prophecies and Nightfall, and having done much in both with many profession combinations, I'm starting to become curious about the Assassin and Ritualist professions.
However, I've heard that Factions focuses more on PvP than anything else, and to date (aside from the required fight in prophecies) I haven't done any PvP, and have no interest in it.
I like the storyline for EotN, and would like to get the new armor/skills.
Which is better for a story-focused player?
Also, on a side note:
Did all the major retailers decide that Factions wasn't worth selling anymore?
I haven't been able to find a nonbundled copy anywhere.

Honestly, I would take GWEN over Factions. But im glad that I have both.
EDIT: Reasoning behind GWEN on my part is i like the dungeons, yes ursan and others provide overpowered pve skills, but minus that i like the dungeons....

Check the bargain bin for factions. And I would go for Factions but thats just me.
Murmel
Both... But I'd get Factions first since you get Alliance Battles and Ritualist
I see that your avatar is a Dervish so guess your main is one? sadly there are no Derv/Para armors in Factions

Factions doesn't ever _force_ you to PvP, there is a single quest that requires faction with the respective side which can be gained either through PvP or PvE, but other then that you are fine.
You might find the factions PvP fun though, AB and Fort Aspenwood are pretty much designed as a combination of PvE and PvP. Both have have a large amount of NPC's to kill and are by far the most casual of the PvP types.
Content-wise, EotN is pretty bare unless you want to exploit the overpowered PvE only skills. Which just about everyone does.

Both are great.Though I would reccomend not skipping Factions for sure.I love the Assassin, and the Ritualist is by far my favorite class of all the games. Both are a lot funner for me than any of the core classes, save the Elementalist.I would go for Factions first, then after getting through it, I would get Eye of the North.Factions has two classes that are a lot of fun to play. And those classes are also a lot of fun going through EotN

Factions has Splinter Weapon and Ancestor's Rage, which are the 2 strongest AoE skills in the game.
Even moreso with you being a Dervish - splash damage off Splinter is awesome.
You also get shadowsteps (Broken mechanic), Save Yourselves, Aura of Holy Might and AB.
On the other hand, with GW:EN you get a nice energy management attack skill, a load of PvE skills and easier elite skill captures.

AB/ Aspenwood are wonderful introductory PvP, EotN is short boring and full of reskinned armor. It is really boring, dungeons are uninspired and un rewarding. Yes the overpowerded PvE skills are nice but that is probally the only reason for buying it. Factions is fun short in a better way has a wonderful atmoshere and is probally the most fun of any of the campains. Plus Assassin/Rit are nice. Factions for sure.
Esan
Factions at least harkens somewhat back to the time when Guild Wars was new and innovative. GW:EN just feels tired.
Get GW:EN when you eventually catch the title fever, though. Skills like Pain Inverter and "Finish Him!" can nearly halve the pain of HM.

Eotn is very short and boring IMO.
Factions is short and fun...somewhat.
I'd get factions first because of the two new classes and the ab..but that's just me

Definitely Factions.
You'll be bored of EOTN before you beat it. Factions has re-playability, 2 new professions, tons new skills and new elites none of which GWEN offers.
Also don't buy the games from GW online store.

Factions for me , probably the best chapter IMO and you can get it for peanuts these days.

GWEN has PvE skills.
Factions has everything else.
Factions has everything else.

That's a bit shallow, Upier.
OT: Both have a good story and setting, provide a lot of content, and are both great if you want more GW. But Factions has the new professions, and I think it'd be cool to give those a shot. So Factions would get my vote of your purchase.
Both are pretty cheap right now, too. I'm seeing both for 10 bucks at the Gamestop near here.

Stolen Souls
Factions, imo.
It has the two classes (both of which are useful), better storyline (imo), some important key skills, and more interesting armor (again, imo). Though I may be a bit biased...despite there seeming to be a bunch of Factions haters, it happens to be my favorite campaign.
EOTN has.........................Ursan.....

The forth fly

RotteN
Factions alright, it's an actual chapter for a reason ...

If you want to think of it this way, consider the armor selection -
Reskins versus skins that (at the time) were considered pretty damn sexy.
Even today, my monk uses her kurzick 15k for prot setups.
The only eotn armor i've purchased is for my paragon.
I feel that the armor comparison is relatively indicative of the games' comparison as a whole.

Factions if you play to have fun and enjoy the storyline.
EOTN if you play to farm.
EOTN if you play to farm.
Buster
EOTN. You get heroes and can earn rewards for Guild Wars 2 if you wish to do so. Though if you like Guild Wars that much then be greedy and get both!
I Will Avenge You
I would recommend you to take Factions, first, if you must buy one or the other

But seriously - pretty much the only thing I got out of GWEN was the Norn ritualist outfit (which is TO DIE FOR - which you can't get because you don't have Factions ) and stuff like [Finish Him], [You Move Like A Dwarf] and [Ebon vanguard Assassin Support].
Where as Factions gave me superb armour choices, the ritualist class, Aspy, AB, my favourite mission in the whole game (Vizunah! - although to be fair - also one of my least favourite missions - Arborstone! Yuck, how I hate thee!) and some insanely sweet skills! (Come to papa [Arcane Languor] - yeah, I KNOW, but I still LOVE it!)
The only problem is that the PvE skills are so freakishly godly that it might just be worth getting GWEN.
Basically - Gwen gives you the ammo, whereas Factions provides a playing field to use the ammo on.

EotN = Dungeons = Epic Phailure, dont waste your money.
Factions has Urgoz = good.

I'd take Factions over GWEN any day. Its content is simply superior to GWEN's. More gameplay, less grind.
XXL-FLEA
EOTN has heroes like nightfall which can help you get your quests done. I personally thought Factions was easy to beat and besides when GW2 comes out you can bring the things from your hall of monuments over which you cant get in factions the hall of monuments is only in EOTN.
If Possible get Both
If Possible get Both
Aera Lure
You'll want both if you keep playing, but get Factions first imho. I really enjoyed Factions.
joshuarodger
factions has a very good storyline, but the scenery, imo, is awful. and mapping can be a pain in the ass.
GWEN has really good scenery and fun side features, i.e. dungeons, PvE skills.
honestly i think you could probably get both of them for 25-40 bucks, so get both.

Factions is an amazing campaign, people say they don't like it, but it's not horrible. I like it a lot more than GW:EN....and A LOT more than Nightfall
GW:EN has it's good times too....
Edit: Oh great you got Factions

If you don't like the look of kaineng city, don't worry...the jade sea and kurzick forest look gorgeous.

You have two choices really.
If you want to pug more, get GWEN
If you want to enjoy the game more, get Factions
GWEN offers you nice pve things and minigames and such if you strictly want pve godliness.
But i find that having essential skills such as SY and AoHM is better than Ursan.
Factions seems pretty deserted in comparison to other campaigns, so don't expect to find that many groups after nahpui quarter.
There is ofcourse the fact that Factions offers you two new classes which are very fun i must say. Ritualist came out to be a very enjoyable class for me. And if you want to farm ectos and stuff, then the recently buffed SF-sin is the right way to go.

The places in GW:EN may be a bit iffy, but they're still great fun nonetheless.
Cahalith
Factions is the shortest campaign, but it has new skills for the core classes, 2 new professions, and some semblance of storyline. Sure, there's the grind for faction, but that only happens once. In EotN you have to grind faction for 4 different races, it drives me nuts. I never should have bought it.

IMO Factions as PVE Blows something horrid.
On the other hand you get new skills (some of which are quite good), 2 new classes, and char slot, FA/JQ/AB. All of which make it worth getting.
EOTN has some new skills, ton of pve only skills, heroes, armor, gloves, and a lot of grind titles...
Eh they both suck but if you want to PVP get both for the skill unlocks.

I think that it lacks the shiny new feeling that chapters brought.
It's more of a "Let's go to the places we've already been before" and I am like "Why?".
The only dungeon that I actually had fun in was Shards. (Well outside of Killy-farming.) It just wasn't fun enough to ever do it again though.
And I KNOW I should play it because that's the only way to get my PvE skills to become stronger - but I just can't be bothered.
