For some reason, and this just started about half an hour or so ago, in Guild wars I can hear music okay but I CANNOT hear the sound effects (ie invalid target effect) or dialougue voices. They are way too low, almost base like I guess you could say

Tried some videos on my comp and its the same, low voice, music loud.

I have looked for viruses and found none on here, I have tried putting in headphones and I have tried restarting but it hasn't helped, any ideas people?

click f11 and go to sound on the top tabs. im guessing effects volume and dialogue volume are really far down.

*edit* looking over your question again i think i have another answer for you, your speakers may be shot. i have the same sound problems on my olther computer. and the cord is broken connecting the speakers, i have to twist the cord around to get it working. plug your headphones into the back of your computer (if you were just puting it in the speakers before) and try that.

Could be your sound card shot because of your excessively high core temperatures.

Found the problem, I couldn't find the wire for the speakers but I eventually found it after pulling the tower out from where it was.

I need to be careful though, the wire seems a bit delicate, as in moving in slightly will cause sound to go all bad like it did in this case.

I also got some other problems fixed, such as cleaning the outside of the fans due to the dust and something to do with my external HD.

My brother didn't exactly help, and he was the one who set up the speakers in the first place so no wonder it took me so long to find the wire >_<

You're probably hearing some of the metal contacts and possibly dust hitting the inside connection. Use a can of air to blow it clean.
