Would 12ms LCD Monitor be good enough to play games?

In short, no. You want 8ms or less for ghostless gaming. To be honest, 6ms or less is really the preferred stuff these days. 4-2ms is the elite equipment. Unless of course the monitor is monolithic in size, in whichcase, it would be a bad buy for gaming anyways. Also, monitors used in graphic design are typically higher in response time, to make it up in color clarity and trueness.

To be honest u can`t find any of those old monitors with high response time , and to answer the question if u want a good LCD monitor go for one with DVI connection "that really makes a difference" !!!

Ill have to contradict Raja in this case. It all depends on what sort of games you play.

Games like Guild Wars or other RPG/RTS that do not have fast moving scenes will run just fine with a 12ms response monitor (you might notice some sllight chance of lag when shadow stepping as a Sin, but thats all).

Games with a faster pace (FPS comes to mind) will give you a headache with that monitor though.

Edit: but you will be a lot happier if you invest in a newer monitor with at least 5-8ms response (I play on a 8ms 19" monitor and FPS games are fine with it)

That's exactly the one I got, and I can only recommend it. It's a great screen for playing any types of game. Even in fast paced FPS games it has a good picture. And, it looks great! Go for it if you ask me, I know from experience that it's good :P

They just don't make monitors like they use to anymore.

I use a 17" Dell that I got from '05. Yeah it was my first LCD actually. It's 12ms (they advertised it as 'better than the 18ms models!") I've not experienced ghosting what so ever (it's a curse actually, I ended up not knowing what ghosting was or what it looked like until recently).

But yeah, I use a 24" as a main, and you really don't see quality in LCD panels until you use SXGA.

OK, if you have the funds to buy taht Screen, then go for it. My last post was because I got the feeling taht you did not want to buy a new Monitor adn were asking of the old one is still viable.

If the 12ms monitor is supposed to be a new one... keep away from that for any sort of gaming if you want a good experience for any type of modern games with fast moving graphics.

ghosting might actually be beneficial on slower machines, because it sort of mimics "motion blurring" and gives you the illusion of better performance!

Oh yeah. That is the monitor I use. I have never had a dead or stuck pixels with a Samsung SyncMaster. I love it so much I am planning on getting a second one for my wife.

Have that exact monitor myself! In my opinion, it's the best monitor you can possibly get at the price.
