This just happened recently. When I am using Ventrilo, the sound effects and music for guild wars stops when someone talks permanently, and also I can't listen to music with iTunes. It was working perfectly fine for the longest time approximately 14 months, and all of a sudden I have this problem.

It's not just me, two of my alliance mates are also having issues now. I was wondering if something was conflicting with Ventrilo and a recent Guild Wars update.

Well...look at the options of Ventrilo.
Something has changed there, i guess.

Did you updated the Ventrilo or Vista SP2 ?

Yayyyyy! I fixed it and it was something pretty straightforward. I was using SPDIF output on my Sound Blaster card in Ventrilo, I must have switched it sometime by mistake. Switched it to Speakers (Creative Soundblaster X-Fi) and it fixed it. So it was a Ventrilo/soundcard issue nothing to do with Guild Wars.

Correction - it was Creative's stupid, gold-coloured non-standard connections. Why the hell can't they used colour coded sockets like the rest of the world?

A: because people are expected to crawl under there desk, with a flashlight, and see what they are doing. I actually think brail would be a better solution.
