Farming Griffons @ Augury Rock Dead ?
Zoomby_u
Hello All,
Just spent an hour farming Griffons at Augury and got nothing but gold and wings ... can anyone confirm that they have turfed the drops there? I got one gold hammer and literally nothing else but gold and wings! Say it ain't so!
Another problem I noticed was while farming Ettin I would get gold drops but when I ID them they turn out to be only Major and not Sup ?? This didn't happen last night when I was playing!

They added drop fatigue a long time ago. When you farm the same area for too long the drop rates start to decrease.

Gold armour can be major or sup.
Griffion drops seem the same to me, still lots of ok weapons and a few golds in a few runs.

overfarming leads to worse drops...and you will not get gold drops every run.
IDing gold runes more often then not reveals major runes, at least for me. These things you mention are normal and part of the game

Gold salvage items can ID into rare, major, and regular runes. A rare item just has a higher chance of getting a better ID, so a gold salvage item has a higher chance of being a superior rune than a major rune.

Here's something sort of odd about that particular run (and I do it quite often). I agree that over-farming nerfs drops.
But here's the weird thing. If my first run is a good one with one or more rare (gold weapon or shield) drops then it's likely that my second and third runs will also yield rares.
In fact - and I don't understand this and it doesn't fit with the usual stuff that I know (and I farm about 80 percent of the time) - the yield fo the first run on any day is a better predictor of what I'll get for the next few runs than whether I've farmed too much or not enough.
So my plan with that farm run is to stick with it in good times until the drops turn white and blue. And when the first couple of runs are bad, I abandon it for the day.

farming is just like farming in real life. Use crop circling!!!!!! Farm one thing till your drop rate decreases then move to the alternate and keep switching. I hope they nerf that griffon farming, i just dont like when people use the cookie cutter builds that other people use.

I thought the spot is still nerfed by A-Net since people constantly farm there for it!

Yeah, Usually for solo farming the drop fatigue occurs in some places. AKA Outside Augry. However in the UW i dont think they have drop fatigue. I think in the UW theres just lucky and not so lucky. The other night, Me and my friend were farming.. more than a few times. 1-2 ectos per run, for one of us. Then out of the blue.. 6th run maybe.. I get 5 Ectos and he gets none :P. We were sharing anyways, so it didnt matter. After this run he gets 3 in one run and i get 1. From there on it continued the 1-2 ecto run. But i think AxeMe is right, sometimes its dropping sometimes it isnt. However, sometimes it takes a few runs to warm up the generosity of Anet.
When it comes down to it, farming, solo or pug is somewhat unpredictable.

I never get anything from those darnable griffons. I don't see what all the hub-bub's all about over them.
dimirpaw
Just farm them untell your drops stink, go to Hydras, Mins, and Hill Gaints, mabye some Sand Drakes and by then you should be able to go back to giffs, ect...

Thanks for the info guys ... but what I experienced must have been a fluke, because I have been farming Augury for about 2 weeks and never had such crappy drops! And I have been alternating from Augury and then to North Kryta (Ettins) and still seems tonight the drops are bad. I'll try again tomorrow ... with some better luck hopefully!

I did an experiment on one of my favorite farming areas. The first time through was lots of nice drops, so many I had to start dropping blues. I also did the "whole zone". I got purples, six rune drops purples and blues. I never seen so many good drops in a row.
K sold everything and started my 2nd time through it. This time wasn't nearly as many blue drops, but, the runes drops were about the same. In fact they were worth more than the first time through. The farming drops I was after was about the same. (Collectors items resource drops). I also completed the whole zone.
K sold everything and started my 3rd time through it. This time it was pathetic. Hardly any significant blue drops, lots of crap white drops and half as many runes as before and all worthless. The collectors items resource drops were 5 less than normal. I completed the whole zone.
K sold everything and started 4th and final test run. I almost quit this one half way through it. Only 2 rune drops, blues hardly dropped at all and even white drops were down and gold was higher in drops than anything else. Collectors resources I was after were down by 10 from normal.
Looks like after 2 runs through same area and the zone becomes crap. My next test will be to find out how long before the zone goes back to giving good decent drops all the way through it after doing some other zones or taking breaks of 24 hours.
I used to do Griffon runs, but, I've found some good zones to run through the whole thing and I make more money than I do doing Griffon runs over and over. Some of these minor rune drops are worth a lot of cash to the vendor.
When I want high level drops I'll do Grenths Footprint with henchies and that takes a longgggg time. Man thas a big zone. The run pays for the 5 keys I always buy that every once in a blue moon I get a nice gold drop item. It's not as profitable each run, but, if you stick with it and keep buying those keys you'll get lucky and get something worth up to 100k.

concerning griffons, im sure they have not nerfed them yet, i just did too runs and got 2 golds and 8 purples

Wings are worth 25g a piece, after you have a few stacks of 250 you can get some nice change from them.

Just fyi, griffon farming was never supposed to yield 'good drops'. Killing griffons/minotaurs instead provided you with such an enormous stream of money/white items that you could just vendor for a decent amount of money.

One thing I wondered about while farming skulls during wintersday...
Does Farm Fatique only effect you and your instance or take into account other people farming in the same area in their instances as well?

Farming the griffs with my E/W hasnt gifted me with a huge ammount of money - 100k or thereabouts, but I have got some nice items from it - a 14% while enchanted req 8 wingblade which i use on said ele, as well as several 15/>50, 15/enc, 20/<50, 15/arm-10 etc swords axes and hammers, most of which I've customised for personal use on my many W/x or x/W characters

A tip for you farmers in case you don't know it. if you go into options and turn on your hints(those annoying blue box pop ups) it will give you a comment when you've overfarmed an area telling you whats happening. Generally I farm an area till I get the hint(hint hint ).

If a certain area is known to drop something, you could set perhaps a general pool of that available item across all instances. So everytime an item drops, it doesn't really care waht instance it came from, it just knows to decrement the available quantity.
Very simplistic and I'm sure not the way it works at all, but I think it could be possible.

I farm Griffons over and over again, and the drops are usually the same (2-3 golds, 1-3 purples)
And, yes, had a few +15% above 50%hp, and some other good stuff for the merchant.
I usually use my ID-kit on every weapon I pick up, even the white, for the extra money you get from the merchant.
Depending on luck, I make about 2-3k per run now.

I farm Griffons and Minotaurs occasionally with my Monk, and a run usually takes 7-10 minutes, and yields 2-3k after selling to the merchant. Here's a screenie I have on our guild site, it shows the path I take on my runs.
One thing, I wish they would fix the AI with those several groups of Minotaurs who like to fight each other up in the northwest part. But yeah...I don't really farm there much anymore, it kinda gets boring

my friend farmed like that was all he did for ~1 month, and he was up to like 700k or so from just merching and vendoring, he got about 2-5 min runs.

I've noticed there seems to be less asian farmers in the International district.
I farm the Griffons sometims. For a few runs there seemed to be a big reduction in quality of drops. I wasnt getting any purples or blues. But I kept going back and it came back. Started getting a bunch of purples and blues and an occasional gold.

*Hint* Find where the Asians went and you'll find the new farming area.

Make 3 or 4 runs to griffs and then 1 or maybe 2 runs ids solo farming and u be able to go again in griffs and when you end with the griffs the ids farming will not nerfed and do it again and over and over is a good way to make good money and not to make your drop rate to fall to low

Bah, I've gone out on a griffon killing rampage and gotten virtually nothing. Granted, I do not 'farm' (at best, it could be described as gardening )
Best place I've ever 'gardened' was outside the War Camp....decent change drops and an occasional bonus rune or gold item.
