N/E Raptor HM farming build
Vann Borakul
I was asked by a couple people for help with a Necro primary HM raptor farmer. Well my first few ideas all failed. They all included Shadow Form and lots of shadowstepping and teleporting around with skills like Shadow of Haste, Shadow Walk, and Shadow Fang. I couldn't get them to work perfectly with the rest of the build. The idea of them were to use one or two skills like Necrosis to kill the boss (Viper's Defense for the condition) and then use Putrid Explosion on his corpse. Repeat on another raptor until Putrid Explosion kills them all. The shadowstepping part was because it would take a bit and needed SF to recharge.
This above concept isn't completely dead, but I sorta gave up most hope after an hour. Time well spent in my eyes; I love using my head for things like this.
But I have a different concept build. It uses N/E. It needs to have a ritualist hero with 16 communing cast Weapon of Quickening on you right before you walk into the cave. This is so that Putrid Explosion recharges faster. Then you flag the hero away so they don't take drops. You need a +20% enchantments weapon for this. It might actually be better than the Ele primary sliver builds. Though not as fast as the nuker builds, at least I don't think so. This is all hypothetical; I don't actually have a necro to use it on. But it all runs smooth when I play it out in my head.
12 Death Magic (8+1+3)
12 Water Magic
10 Earth Magic
3-5 Soul Reaping (depends on what rune you care to use)
Armor of Mist
Glyph of Concentration
Mist Form
Magnetic Aura
Sliver Armor
Mental Block
Putrid Explosion
Putrid Bile
>Run to cave entrance
>Cast Armor of Mist and then Glyph of Concentration (cast Mental Block before GoC if you have at least r8 Asura)
>Have the rit hero cast Weapon of Quickening on you as you run into cave, then flag them far away
>Aggro all raptors and the boss
>Cast Magnetic Aura then Mist Form (then cast Mental Block if you have less than r8 Asura)
>Cast Putrid Bile on the boss followed by Sliver Armor
>Cast Putrid Explosion right after the boss dies, or any raptor if they die first
>Continue to spam Putrid Explosion over and over until it kills every raptor
Give me your thoughts, and if anyone wants to try it, your experience with it. I haven't heard of a Necro primary hm raptor farmer before, so I went ahead and did it myself.

Here's a general purpose RANGER build that works very well:
[build=OgYTk4FfHydQZgdAVQ4AukHKXEA]
The only ranger skill used is whirling defense, that is used to prevent interrupt of the sliver armor. I don't see the necro having any sort of interrupt preventions or fast casting blocking skill so you may get interrupted a lot without it. You may use the Asuran Skill "mental block", but you would need to cast it at the cave entrance (since it has a one second casting time) and allow some raptor to actually hit you now and then as you run through the cave to keep it active. So the way this build works on my ranger is that I cast Armor of Mist (for running) and Glyph of SACRIFICE (not CONCENTRATION) at the cave entrance (where you can't be interrupted). You then run through the cave and only cast your Mist Form when you glyph of sacrifice is just about to run out (in other words, you don't cast Mist Form at the entrance). This will give you time to finish aggro of everybody in the cave. Now even though you aren't taking any damage from the raptors, they can still interrupt you. This is where I normally cast both Magnetic Aura AND Whirling Defense to prevent intterupt. You will need to figure out something else, otherwise your Sliver Armor WILL get interrupted.
Use a 20% enchanting something to give you more time on the running skill.

Yeah, I just tried this build:
[build=OgYTk4FfHydIuUZgdAVAukHKXEA]
and it worked just fine. So theoretically, since that is a pure elemental build, it would work with any profession. The trick is to cast the 1-2-3 at the cave entrance and you MUST allow the raptors to hit you to keep the mental block from expiring. You MUST also cast 4 (Mist Form) before your glyph of sacrifice expires (it will happen in the middle of the cave). You also need to be very patient before casting sliver armor. Let the broodmother critical hit you and let everybody surround you. Then cast Magnetic Aura to further prevent interrupt and THEN cast your Sliver Armor and other skills. If everything goes as planned you will hopefully drop the broodmother or your Air of Superiority will recharge your skills in time for you to get your Mist Armor back up before it expires.
I ran it about 5 times and did get interrupted once.

I don't think you can "pertain" anymore to your thread then VooDoo's second post.
He shows you a build that was pure Ele + a couple of Asura skills that any profession should be able to use meaning your necro can use it.
What more could you possibly want

To see if anyone could test my build and give me thoughts on it seeing how I don't have a necro there to test it on my own? You know, the point of this thread?
While Voodoo's second build can indeed be used by a necro, it also appears to be inferior to mine in all ways, and with only 2 different skills.
Voodoo; I don't mind someone posting a build that a necro can use, but when only 2 skills are actually different and it's painfully obvious that mine should work better, with you showing no regard to my idea, it's just out of place.

Before you label my build as inferior, you might actually test your build. What you will find happens is that you can use your glyph of concentration to insure a recast of mist form (although glyph of sacrifice would work better because you won't have to pause to recast) but you have no way of preventing your sliver armor from getting interrupted. From my experience, Magnetic Aura is not enough by itself. With 30 raptor nestlings mobbing you, someone will interrupt you for sure. Mental Block will get interrupted too. The only spells that won't get interrupted are 1/4 sec or less casting time spells, so recasting glyph of concentration is out too. Instead of getting so snotty about your thread, why don't you actually listen to the concepts I am discussing and then we could discuss the optimal build. Since neither of us has a necro to test it on we need someone to try it out.

Yours doesn't give any extra protection than mine. If mine doesn't work, neither will yours. I said yours appeared inferior because the 2 different skills in yours gave no advantage that it really needed, whereas mine put great importance on its 2 skills.
I chose Glyph of Concentration over Sacrifice for fairly simple reasons. I wanted to be able to use it as a decoy skill for interrupts (the recharge is shorter, and if it doesn't get interrupted, it won't **** over the build). Also, they should interrupt you if you simply start attacking them with your weapon. Mental Block can't be interrupted since you cast it before you're even in front of a raptor. And the quick recharge on it means it can be a decoy skill quite easily. You'll have an 87.5% chance to block attacks. If you take all precautions, you should have a very good chance of not being interrupted.
If disruptions remains a primary problem, perhaps the only way to combat it would be to synchronize the interruptions of the raptors. To do this, you would need to replace Putrid Bile with Heart of Shadow or Viper's Defense and you would need to have a +33% speed boost on (AoM). You would run away for 9 seconds and then engage all raptors at once using a decoy skill to get as many recharges close together as possible. But this wouldn't be good for the ritualist aspect of the build.

Yeah, it works very well. I took my ranger to level 10 Asuran using nothing but this build to farm raptors. The only trick is to cast your mist form partway through the cave when your gyph is starting to blink and then hope your blocking skills prevent the interrupt of sliver. Since mist form makes you untouchable, you really want to let the entire mob get right on you before you try to cast sliver.
Regarding Van Borakul's build, it should work as long as you use my technique. Per his description, he says to aggro all of the raptors including the broodmother. You won't be able to do that in the 15 seconds that the glyph of sacrifice or concentration lasts, so you will be casting your mist form somewhere in the middle of the cave and then proceeding to aggro the rest of the raptors. I also think the Air of Superiority is greatly needed to recharge skills and to supply energy. Sliver Armor only lasts for 10 seconds. You will get one free recharge when the broodmother goes down.
I did do some experimenting, you can't synchronize the interrupts. I tried a variety of slow casting skills and they didn't seem to make any difference in interrupt prevention of sliver. All you can really do is maximize blocking and hope for the best.
Does anyone know if putrid explosion causes scatter in HM? I was experimenting with Aftershock and they scattered like crazy when I used it.
