well recently i noticed how so many ppl are WTB and very little ppl are actually selling. does this have anything to do with the recent ecto prices? are ppl holding their stuff so they can sell later when ectos (hopefully) will be worth more?

Not ecto prices, but definitely the dead economy.
How it USED TO be in GW was if you found a decent item, like a green, you could sell it for a reasonable price.
Nowadays you can't sell ANYTHING unless it's a highly desired skin, or req7.
So most of the things people are finding probably get sold to the merchant because everybody knows this and won't waste their time.

Everyone went from regular farming (Greens, rare golds) to Ecto farming.

I don't sell stuff much anymore since my rate of getting green or gold drops hasn't been as high as it once was. For the greens I do have that I try to sell, even at 2k, no one, apparently, wants green items anymore.

I havent experienced less WTS at all... Its more that there are more WTB's
People have acces to more money since the uw sf farm... So people who couldnt afford stuff suddenly have the money and are starting to buy items. Eventhough its always the same stuff that is getting wtb'd :P Voltaic Spears, high end mini's, eternal and obby blades and some celestial compasses and tormented shields :P

Not much worth selling these days. Common golds are either sold unid, or merched. Only things worth spamming in towns are the FoTM items.
Blame easymode farming, and everything being so cheap. Golds are not rare like they use to be. Back in the old days it could take weeks/months of regular play to get a gold, now they drop like flies.

well i tried to buy a voltaic and a tormented shield and i got squat, only 1 guy offered me a req 11 i believe other than that no one else was selling those items. Before however there were tons of ppl selling theses items, so thats mainly the reason i started this....

The economy has gone down though. With the perma sins getting rich of ectos, and all the solo green farmers, there's not a whole lot to sell besides minipets and golds.
And the introduction of Deldrimor Items, I haven't seen any of them for sale (well i'm sure they're selling for cheap).

Everlasting Tonics are the new thing to have. Personally, I love that they increase in value overtime because they become unavailable ever again at the end of each month. So funny to watch people FREAK when they find that out.
Ah, and it is a buyer's market right now. More focus is on ecto farming and green farming as others have said. If anything, this might boost the value of rarer skins because they won't be being farmed nearly as much for the time being.

When I WTS stuff no one buys anymore... (not even elite tomes!!!) so i just dont bother. either that I just sell for uber cheap just to get some quick cash... but no one will buy them at normal prices.

I seriously hate standing in town and spam WTS to sell. Even if I'm selling high end items (ie eternal blades), i hate standing in town to spam "nty" & "WTS". Can't anet make a better selling system? ie.. auction house like in final fantasy, where items will be taken from your invent and $$ deposited automatically for a small auction house fee. *sigh*

I rarely type WTB........I apply the same rules for real life in game, for example.............I get the shopping flyers every Thursday, I look at all 5 major groceries compare prices then shop for food, I apply the same rules in game, if I am looking for an item I look at how many individuals are selling it and pick the lowest price........ I have learned whenever I type WTB people they to ask for too much, I have never gotten good deal when I type WTB.

Weird, since perma-SF I find selling a lot easier and faster, probably because of the huge numbers of ecto farmers who spend their money as soon as they get it.

Most of the time it's just not worth the time selling your stuff. Try using the auction here on Guru, or the buy/sell forum. Check it once a day if you got any buyers or if there are any new offers.

i tried selling some elite tomes and only got rid of em cheaply, it's seriously sad now
the only thing that brings up are normal ele tomes (surprise?)

why is there a focus on farming greens? i mean its not like their worth much. Is it simply because its extremely easy now? or a reason that i dont know?

I sell my stuff easily all the time, but, then I don't try to gouge everyone with silly stupid prices from forums. But one time I sold 10 zashien keys for 100k because someone wanted them right then and didn't want to wait. 
People think what the web pages say or some other silly dude says is god fact on prices and selling. You just have to be in the right place at the right time actually and you can sell just about anything. I do notice there are more WTB orders, but, haven't noticed any decrease in want to sell, the old garbage is still out there for sale and prices are down because more people can now farm the same areas that the greedy people could awhile back that's the advantage of URSANS BLESSING which I sooooo enjoy in this game now.

Actually IMHO its not that people aren't selling anymore, its that they don't want to spam which is a great thing. Like in my case, im somewhat of a pack rat. I save anything gold or good skin/req and then visit kamadan every so often to see whose buying what, if i see someone say WTB max gold *usually war weapon* i can prob sell the item for 2-5k, a great way to make cheap money for some random merch fodder and get ppl what they want.
Personally for the economy, i think it could easily be fixed if ANET just started selling faction for money... It would be a great sink hole

i don't bother with selling anymore because there are so few items worth the trouble to sell at this point. if its not a hot item, i won't bother. i'd rather play the game than stand around spamadan playing car salesman.

It's still pretty easy to sell mods and golden req9 weapons on guru/auctions for 3-5K. When you sell these kind of items these days people will not offer what you want for it if you write WTS... You have to wait for someone who writes WTB, most likely you get more from that.

I haven't sold an item in game in a long time - I've sold items on guru auctions for a long long time as the stuff sells itself. I can list an item that will repost itself every 3 days for a month and leave it to be bought - I spend more time playing this way.
Only time I'll try and sell anything in game is when I'm working on my drunkard title. I've certainly noticed more and more WTB, but they're for the same 10 or so items (voltaics, high end minis etc). As for wts... unless they're rare, tomes or materials I wouldn't go there specially for it.

I don't think it's that there are fewer ppl selling, just that the one's legitamately selling stuff that they KNOW the worth of only do it at certain times.
There is no point of selling anything of value at say 12:00 pm on a Sat b/c you will say "WTS blah blah blah 20k" and the only response will be some 12 yr old saying "I only have 6734g, will you take that?"

Plus, around 70% of the WTB posts aren't for farmable items. Most of the time people are trying to buy sweets, booze, fireworks, or minipets.

ppl suggested the ecto drop doesnt have to do anything with this but i beg to differ, ppl are selling req 9 voltaic for over 100k+100e i mean seriously? its ruining the game for those of us who doesnt farm extensively, for those who farm hours and hours this is a great thing i suppose, also imgaine how rich those ppl are when/if they nerf SF. the price would spike extremely high for a while then settle bak to a steady amount but now 25=100k but after a nerf it could be 20=100k.
