Be a Tank/Heavy Attacker?

My friend is more of a "I'll heal you and i'll help if you die" kind of guy. So we can team up.

I'd probably recommend warrior for you and monk for your friend. Monks are the definitive healer role in Guild Wars (especially in the first campaign) and Warriors have some amazing DPS especially once they hit level 20 and they're always right up in the action.

What about a tank? I need to be able to take a lot of damage.

Trust me, that's what the monk is for. Warriors have the highest natural armor out of all of the classes in the game, that is enough. Warriors excel way better at high DPS than tanking, but if you absolutely must tank, a warrior can still do that job best.

If your don't want to go warrior for the tank, there is always Earth Elementalists. Lots of armor skills will help with the tanking . But I suggest going warrior for taking all the damage, along with a protection/healing monk.

Your friend can also go as necromancer, as they can work well as a secondary healer (either N/Mo or N/Rt) due to Soul Reaping. And the "I'll help if you die" part, isn't something a monk does, its what necromancers do when raising minions.

I would reccomend with the above Warrios can do amazing tanking with the right skills

But I used to tank alot with a Dervish in UW and FOW

and that defenitly worked for me

also i find Dervs are more fun to play than warriors and seem to have better dmg

but warriors are the better "Tanks"

"Tanks" aren't used as much as they are in other MMO's (WoW for example) as most of the healers simply heals who takes damage. If you run something like ursan (6 random class's with Ursan Blessing and two monks with Healers Boon) then its as simple as charge in and heal those who take damage.

Don't play warrior as a Tank but play warrior as a damage dealer.

Just to clarify...

Tanking doesn't work in GW because the AI is written to target the weakest foes first, just as a player would do. Unless you know how to manipulate aggro really well, enemies will run right by you and head straight for all the spellcasters in the back line.

There are no "Hey, look at me" magnet skills in this game. Only positioning.
