So, ok, I give up. What's the trick to the shadow nexus challenge? I've killed bare minimum, 40 portal mages, that's not an exaggeration, I kill at least eight per round, and I've played four rounds at it.
I have yet to attain a SINGLE armor remnant.
Is this just the most insanely low droprate item in the entire game? Am I getting massively unlucky? Should I just chock this up to another of the (small) list of reasons I hate aNet?

I think your just really really unlucky, I got mine in around 5 or so. Just keep going at it.
I've done plains of chaos and some other areas in UW before without getting a SINGLE ecto so don't feel bad about unlucky. Happens to everyone.

Another 40 down, and still nothing at all.
I understand they put "Challenge" in there - but this is just stupid. I don't die from it, the mission in and of itself isn't even hard, I never DIE, I run out of time. They just don't drop the item - that's not a challenge...that's annoying.

Yes, they do go into your inventory, and it seems like your pressing Alt and looking around for them. That doesn't happen.
Also, if you have checked your inventory, then the chances are your heroes are getting them, therefore they are basically not existing but also exist at the same time. Try soloing it if possible, should get you armor if your fast enough (speed is also an issue with the challenge missions, faster you kill, more armor you get).

I have no idea HOW to solo that mission. It doesn't seem possible. It's easy enough with heroes, when their AI works right anyway - seems that locking a target means that they're to attack everything BUT that one anymore...
I do check my inventory, I know they don't drop on the ground. This is getting insanely stupid though, how many of these should I have to kill? Does one drop every 100 kills, then my heroes get the first three?
It's really demoralizing...why did they make it such an insanely low chance of getting these...if it's so fast and easy an common for you guys...could one of you go get one and sell me it? I only want ONE...this is just nuts...

How to solo the challenge: Perma SF. Your a sin, you have the skills obviously (at least SF, Deadly, Arcane Echo).
I did the challenge mission 2 times, only once did I get an armor. I got 2 in that time cuz I was pwning the guys with speed
. Only thing I can think of for you would be to kill faster.
I'm too lazy to even bother with that mission. In being generous, I'll post the 4 builds I used for this challenge:

Did 2 runs, was getting nothing till I put on my lightbringer title, doubt that has anything to do with it, but if you don't have it up, put it up. I ended up getting 2 armor sets in the second run (after noticed first at 148 points and second at 159 points). I think the armor is based on how fast you kill the mages.
Also, ignore the builds above, they are outdated, its easier to run sabway.
