Just Got Factions and Nightfall ...

I'm returning to the game after a long absence, and until now I've only owned the original Guild Wars (Prophecies). So I ordered Factions and Nightfall, which just arrived.

I logged in with my Lvl 20 Warrior and got some quests to allow her to go to the new continents.

My question is: Would I be ruining the experience of Factions and/or Nightfall by sending my Level 20 over first? Would it basically take me into the middle of the Factions/Nightfall storyline, or would I be starting from the beginning, like I would with a new character?

Basically I'd rather play with my Level 20s, to unlock new skills, but I won't do that first if it means I come in during the middle of the storyline and spoil it. I'd appreciate some advice, since I suspect the wiki entries about the storyline contain lots of spoilers.

By bringing over your Level 20 guy, you're not missing out on much. You basically miss out on the starter areas which seek to teach new players the game, so if you already know the ropes, these areas are irrelavent to you.

It would be like starting 30 pages into a book. you miss the buildup and background, but not much of the story

If your a 'story' following kinda person, you aren't missing much in the nighfall campaign. The first island (Istan) is basically training and learning about the sunspears. You learn that the Corsair are bad and blah-blah-blah. The sotry gets better once in Kourna.

You'll be starting in the areas where the experience really begins, but it may be a bit more exciting to have your character go into these campaigns after you've gotten into the story with a fresh character.

There are some tutorials when you start the character that you can skip and you can experience the build up from a native perspective. IMO, if you enjoy the lore, starting new will put you deeper into the game.

As has been said, if you really want to immerse yourself in the role playing aspect, start with a new campaign specific char. Actually, you won't be able to choose the Assassin, Ritualist, Paragon or Dervish classess if you don't start a new character in one of the newer campaigns.

I know in NF, you have the option of skipping the tutorial stuff. The first few quests and missions go by quickly and Factions and NF both level you much faster than Prophecies does.

Unlike Prophecies' "Pre" area you can return to the very beginning at any time.

I've been playing GW for two years. I have played and beaten all the campaigns (as most people in the forum have). I enjoy it still but the one thing GW has NEVER been good at is the role playing aspect. Maybe no MMORPG does that part well. It is totally unrealistic to assume all of the thousands of players will stay "in character" while playing and in chat.

But I'm an old dice-RPG guy (still do) and I digress. I guess if you play alone a lot and enjoy the cut scenes, start from the very beginning.

It is my opinion that Nightfall and Eye of the North have the best script and narratives. Love that Jora.

Thanks for all the responses. At what point, in each campaign, do the Level 20s come in? This way I'll know that I can stop the new character at that point if I'm bored with it.

Also, do Factions and Nightfall, like Prophecies, have a lot of quests that give you free skills? If so, it's probably in my interest to make an Assassin or Dervish to get free skills that way.

My advice would be to create a new character and get them up to the part where you would transfer in, that way you don't miss any storyline and have some other characters to play if you get bored of your warrior!

Honestly, no, there are alot less skill quests. In Factions I created an Ele and did ALL the secondary proffesion quests before picking one just to get more skills. I've not made a new Character in NF to tell you haow that goes, but I KNOW people have said ther are less.

NO MATTER WHAT If you enjoyed Prophicies you WILL enjoy the other games, ALOT of people say Factions failed, but I loved it much more than HF or GWEN.

Though you may want to go the HF route first and get a few Heros to aide your journies if you don't like playing with others, but following the story line, (Proph ---> Factions ---> NF---> GWEN, is proly the best route.

I went through NF and factions on 2-3 of my main lvl 20 chars first before I created any new chars. If anything it will get you to the real content faster.

in factions you go over to kaineng center....missing the whole starter island and thus joining most of the canthan characters at level 20.
in nightfall you go over to kamadan---the starter city and if you wish to follow the story arc there you will be just a bit behind the new elonians.

there are NO skill quests--that is unique to prophecies, however, the quests in factions offer lots of xp and some gold (and imperial commendations ---which you can trade for keys, salvage packs, id kits, etc)...
that being said...if you decide to switch your secondary---in nightfall you will get a bunch of dervish or paragon skills when you change over (not sure in factions as I have never changed to a sin or rit)..if you ever changed secondaries (like after the desert ascension) you get a few skills for the new secondary....I got more paragon skills when I changed than I did when I changed back in prophecies.


When factions first came out I brought my tyrians over before I made a canthan...I didnt see much of a problem with it and it didnt hurt the story line much (and I wanted to get some of the new armors in kaineng )

which ever you decide you will still have a good time trying it out.

Nightfall doesn't really have any skill quests. Factions does, sort of, but neither of them do the way Prophecies does. GW:EN returns to that model of quest reward = new skill, which is nice.

Where you'll come in to Factions, most people would be about lvl 17-20. Nightfall, about lvl 13-15 or so.

I would say yes you would especially in factions, since you learn about shiro a lot then nightfall i don't think you miss much at all, but a least make a new char for factions
