Eye of the North Staves
Innocent
Hi there,
I was looking at several staves (Embercrest, Astral, etc) that drop from EotN dungeon chests. These staves only come in primary attributes for casters. except for mesmers. It seems that the mesmer embercrest staves are always in Inspiration, and not their primary. Why is that? I really would like an embercrest staff for my monk, but it is useless for me to stick a Half Skill Cast on it because it'd be for Divine Favor.
There are a few collector's staves that are q9 DF and have half cast time on Prot and Healing spells. I'm sure this exists for other classes as well.
Basically, what I am saying is, either make it so that these staves are dropped in other attributes as well, or make the inscription system let us choose from primary class attributes for the "Aptitude Not Attitude" inscription. I want to use a freaking pretty staff that will perform.
I am just asking for more choice here, is all.

There's no good reason for them not to drop in other attributes. What's the deal, Anet?

I think the reasoning for other classes is they have at least a decent/useful skill in their primary - mesmers, not so much. I guess necros can argue the same thing since there's really nothing in Soul Reaping either.
That said, /signed because my mesmer has no need for Inspiration crap.

That was a really poor design decision to limit
For Monk I'm looking for Healing or Protection staffs, NOT divine,
for Ele everything else than Energy Storage,
for Necro mainly Death or Curses, for Mes - Domination or Illusion...
for Rit - Restoration or maybe Channeling but not spawning...
So I can't hope for a useful Astral or Embercrest or other cool looking EotN staff, the only exception is Bone Dragon Staff which was added in a much later update - they realised their mistake and this single 1 can drop for every caster attribute...

I'm glad others feel the same way I do.

Yes please! I would love love love an astral staff for my monk, but I have no use for a divine favour staff. /signed
ragemage
/signed I'd love to have a prot Astral Staff.
Mordiego
/signed Astral Fire Staff for my Sin

/signed, if the drop chance of non-primary attribute would be low. And if its applied for both staffs and wands.

I've always wanted an embercrest staff that'd actually be useful to have 40 HCT on (yes i know its not actually 40 but yeah).

same goes for all the other rare staffs (like ghostly staff) that dont come in more than one attribute.

Primary attribute only is bad, especially when most of them don't see the light of day skill-wise.

Choice is only bad in Matrix version 6.
Choice is good in GW.
More choice is good.

EDIT: thinking about +1 / 20% staff mods >.> , atleast that solves that aspect of the problem (ie: +1 heal 20%, on a divine staff).

tell me how to salvage HSR 20% from a staff, i pay 1000ectos ;d
even if you meant HCT, thats still impossible from factions or proph staff.

I do remember salvaging staff mods with the attribute still attached to it, it'll come to me sooner or later.

Most of the inscriptions follow the item's requirement attribute. Honestly, it would probably be less work to make these staves drop in all caster attributes, rather than change how the inscription works.

Even with my nil knowledge in game design/programming, I know that this cannot be hard to implement.

I thought you could already get them in Zaishen chests.

I'm fairly certain these staves only drop from EotN dungeon chests.

I feel if you get one of these nice drops it would be nice if it could be customized by you. For instance you get a unique staff it would be clean so you could add all the bells and whistles you want that are allowed in the form of upgrades and inscriptions. But when get it you get one chance and one chance only to pick what attribute it uses, then it is unchangeable. You could double click on the staff and a list would come up to pick the attribute from. Selling stuff in this game is a boondoggle I won't get into, so this way you would get what you want. No more getting a fire staff for your monk and etc.

This would also add more functionality to items such as: Staff Wrapping of the Vampire, all your life stealing spells have a 50% chance to steal 20% more health.
The Only EoTN Staff that seems to drop in non-primaries are Bone Dragon Staves, honestly they may be expensive but ugly as sin

I like that idea actually. It would mean ultimate customization.
