Low fps problem

Hey recently in RA I have been getting low fps for some reason. After a few maps, my fps drops from its normal 40-60 to 15-30. Even when I put the graphics settings on low, I still get the same fps. I sometimes go to solo the UW, but I don't notice a drop in fps after a while. This started happening recently and I don't know why. I don't have any programs running in the background and I hit ctrl-alt-del and GW is the only program using up processing power (about 50%). My computer can also run doom 3 at a nearly constant 60 fps with no problems.

Not sure what computer info would be helpful but I've got

Windows XP Prof x64
AMD Dual Core Processor 4200+ 2.21 GHz
1 GB Ram
NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS

it sounds like GW's multiple core scaling problem. the easiest way to fix this is to go to taskmanager and set GW.exe affinity to only one core, instead of both.

Really? Weird, been running GW on this computer for over a year and I never really had this problem... Would that affect my computers performance?

nope. GW can only run on one core anyways. that's why you usually see it using 50% of your processor (since 1 out of 2 is 50%).

it becomes messy on winXP, since it is not designed with multiple cores in mind. under winXP, the cores will sometimes "fight" over application threads, which cause it to juggle between the cores and lose performance.

Oh ok thanks a lot, I'll see if that works.

Ok it didn't work. I launched GW, set the program to run on one core through the task manager. I started one RA match, it started out smoothly at 60 fps, and by the end, it was down to 25 and it wouldn't go back up to its normal 60. Like I said before, I ran GW on dual core for over a year and I haven't had any problems till now, so I don't really think its that. RA is currently the only place where I notice it, I might try some missions later to see if occurs there too.

I kind of have the same problem but it didn't start happening recently. I always had semi low fps. It usually is in the 20's-30's but sometimes it goes into the teens.

The weird thing is that I can handle the game fine on high and medium settings (in fact that is what the auto detect goes to)

Lowering the graphics didn't seem to help or affect the fps though....

(I don't have a Duo or Quad Core-I have Win XP, Intel Pentium 4 processor, ATI Radeon X300 series graphics card, and 1 GB of ram)
