Freezing up during instalation

Ok so I am trying to istall Guild Wars on another computer by downloading it from the website. Ok so I am able to d/l the GW.zip file and begin running the instalation where it asks me the location to d/l the files and then starts d/l'ing but when its done with that and before it takes you to the log-in screen it freezes up my computer everytime. It shouldn't be an issue with my computer because I can run WoW on it just fine, any thoughts.

It is installed, you are looking at the screen that says downloading and the bar is not moving?

Well the file in question is huge, I mean large, really really big. a-net is not gonna let you have all the bandwidth for downloading. It will take a long time. I suggest you run the installer or launch gw. then when you get to that point go have a nice cup of coffee or a walk, maybe watch a tv show/movie.
then come back and see what it is doing.

The only other thing that could be stopping this is an antivirus or a fire wall.

Do you see a download speed during the initial setup? And if so is it high # or 10 or less KB transfer rate? If it disconnects at the initial setup it can be an issue (at least for me it was)

Did you just install WOW or was it installed awhile ago?

If you have a real slow download speed I would suggest a viral/adware scan. Malware can do some crazy ^&*(


Edit Zamial speaks the truth the intial file is huge and takes awhile. And then when you get to log on its another 17 k of files after that Just did the download on Sunday

Trust me I realize this is a huge file, but computer is actually freezing, as in the mouse stops moving and I cannot even reboot, I have to turn off the computer manually. No it doesn't show a d/l speed, but shouldn't be any issues with the computer as it is top of the line. I only make it about 5 minutes into the initial d/l as the bar on the bottom makes it all the way til the end but before it goes to the next screen my whole computer freezes up everytime. I'll check the firewall and antvirus programs when I get home.

Malware does not care if you have a new or old system. If it gets in all HE77 breaks lose. It constricts the flow by putting its own crap in the way. Needless applications that steal valuable resources. You can get less then dial up speed.

Try this open up the network connection and check status of your connection while you try an install.

Start
Control Panel
Network Connections
Select local area network

Now start the GW installation in a reduced screen so you can watch the packet receive and send

It should be moving quickly on a down load. If only a few numbers are changing at a time then it is restricted

What version on Direct X do you have installed? The GW Installation disks come with an option to install a copy. You need 9. And if it is not there it will stop at a certain point of installation. At least it did for me. But I got a message if I remember right.

Im going to echo what has already been said.
Try running your anti-virus software and then run Spybot or Ad-Aware and check if they find any issues.
Next, open your Task Manager(Ctrl+Alt+Del). Kill any process that is listed under your account(usually Administrator or *username*). I would even kill explorer.exe. Then click Run at the top and restart explorer by typing in "explorer.exe".
After you do all that you should have removed(at least temporarily) any other processes that may be interfering. Now try to install GW again.
If that still doesn't help the situation you may want to run ChkDisk on the harddrive you are installing to. A bad sector can cause such crashed too.
Post back and let us know the results or if anything else came up.
Another resort after all of that is to boot into Safe Mode with Networking and trying it from a more limited OS. Corrupted Windows files can have very odd results on PC's.
