So my computer is certainly dying. How do you transfer you character information to a new computer? Do I just reinstall the campaigns I own? Does ANet store my character templates, or do I need to copy some files. I couldn't find any information on the gw website, and maybe my search here wasn't thorough.

All the important information is stored on Anet's servers. If you lost everything on your machine, you'd be fine, as long as you remember your login name and password.

You'd have to redownload a file called gw.dat from Anet, which can take awhile depending on your internet speed. It should be a little less than 4 GB, so if you want to transfer that, you can.

But if you don't, nothing will be lost. All you have to do is go www.guildwars.com/support and download the game client. Once that's downloaded, install it and login.

It's as easy as that.

Well there're number of way to do that.

If you have an external HD you can just copy the dat file over there, the when you have your new pc just install GW as normal then copy and paste the dat file that you back up earlier.

The other obvious way is to just burn the .dat on a dvd, would it fit on a single layer dvd? No idea never try it but if you have a dual side burner then you'll fine with dual layer dvd.

The thing is if you do this it will save you load of time than having to go and download all the data again.

Your character and item templates are stored locally in the /templates folder in your guild wars directory. You will want to copy those to your new computer. The files are plain text and very small so you shouldn't have any problems doing that.

Same with the screenshots you took if you want to keep those you'll need to make a copy on a flash drive, CD, DVD or external HDD.
