How does abuse report really work in Guild Wars?

Hi all,

About week ago I got scammed - old standard scam 100g instead of 100k...+e
I posted abuse report on PlayNC with screen and explanation - got standard blablabla thank you answer few minutes after my report.
Looks great - but it's not...
What a surprise it was to see this guy active on GW 2 days after my post...
Yesterday by a coincidence I saw him and his Guild Lead in one of the outposts...
So I pm'ed his Guild Lead and told him what guy from his guild done together with screen as proof. GL reaction was "you where stupid not my fault".
Now I get the feeling I'm the only person around to care and not like scammers in the game... GW writes nice but empty answers, GL don't care and doesen't mind his guildies scam other ppl.

So is there anyone in GW that cares about players scamming other players or this is something standard for Guild Wars and accepted by most?
I'm playing for over 2 years and scams took place all the time but I thought - ehh I'm naive - that actions are taken...

Cheers,
Anna

I'm sorry for your loss, but A-Net don't consider it a scam when you lose out in a trade like that, their point of view is that you should check the amount and items befor you hit the accept button.

I understand your feelings. I too have been scammed before, however anet does not do much regarding trade scams

If anet were allowed to talk to you like this, its exactly what they would say.

Pay more attention when trading.

yea its nasty... almost got scammed myself trying to sell a charr kit, same idea tried to give 5g rather than 5000g. Oh well, guess we just have to be carefull. We could try and compile a list of the scammers I guess... if that would do anything

I like to know what guild

sorry for your lost ...

it would be great to have a place where you can post proof of scamming activities

Reason I say the above: because anonimity makes the worse of people. If somehow their evil deeds are announced, I think it would deter players from wanting to try to trick another player less.

Smart people don't get scammed. I, in my 8 years of playing online games, have never been scammed once. Stop whining over 100 gold, you're lucky your lack if good judgement didn't cost you more.

look the answer is simple....

check the offer twice or even three times

a net cannot help you if it's your own mistake

i mean like 100g and 100k is a big difference and easy to notice

so really it's your bad not his oder a nets

no scam just pure bad luck or stupidity sorry to say but it's more the second than the first

good luck in future

and check offers twice

or don't trade

sometimes you have to learn the hard way

peace

Don't listen to the above poster's, they're probably scammers themselves. A-net DOES ban people for trade scams, even if the scammer wasn't successful and even over trades of just 1k.

Send a explanation of what happened to http://help.plaync.com/cgi-bin/playn...nduser/ask.php include your characters name and the scammers character's name, time and time zone, and outpost and district.

If you don't believe me, read the what their staff has to say about it: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/User_...porting_people

Hi,

Fusa I did post a report to them - ppl is on line live and laughing..

Well i'm not crying about 100k.. this was not the point.
I know to double check the trade and I am aware that this was also my fault, but on the other hand I myself would never do such a thing and if someone from my guild would done it well we would have long "conversation".
This is what irritates me the most ppl that feel anonymous and think they are smart and untouchable...
I'm crying about ppl scamming at general not lost of gold.
Like pumpkin pie wrote... "anonymity makes the worse of people"
GW doesn't ban, there is no place where we could post screens and names so circle is close and ppl scam all they want...

cheers,
anna

They have made it so easy to tell exactly how much gold is there and when the trade gets changed. Not paying attention is your own fault I'm sorry. If you can't manage to take 2 minutes to check then really it is your own fualt.

Then they haven't finished conducting the investigation against the scammers, or you didn't give enough information about the scam. I had one person try to switch 1k for 1g when I was selling a scar eater. I reported him, and he was banned for 2 weeks. Also saw someone else scamming in Kamaden over the weekend, and couple of days later I got the following response:

Well ,well seams like they have changed their policy regarding both scams and giving feedback regarding action taken (Gail allways stated that NO FEEDBACK would be given citing privacy concerns).

BTW. you forgot to black out GM Sven's name at the top.

They ban people for scamming for 999g but I have reported death threats (verbal abuse - I didn't take them seriously, but hey. I didn't even insult the guy during the hour I spent fighting with him, not ONCE x]) and they didn't ban the guy, even though he got reported by (apparently) over 20 people.

Note that I'm not QQing or anything, just seems amusing to me really x];;...

Report system works in mysterious ways. x]

EDIT: Although I did report a guy who was harassing 3 or 4 of my friends, he got banned 3 days. When he came back he PMed one of the guys saying that he'd report him for getting him banned... IIRC my friend reported him again for the lulz and he got re-banned.

Or you didn't understood my point or you don't have problem with players cheating.
Sure it's my fault I got cheated and the guy is ok as I didn't check the gold exactly...
Well in my opinion NO guy is not ok as he wanted to cheat and he did it and this is wrong.

as for the report i got this answer a week ago:

Calling BS on this. A-Net has stated over and over that they will NOT inform people on actions, if any, they take against others who are reported for violations of the EULA, scamming, etc.

Fusa here is a e-mail I found on the page you refered to.

Hello (name deleted),
Thank you very much for contacting the PlayNC Customer Support Team.
Transactions and other player interactions that take place in the game world - such as those involving “runs” to different locations - often involve a certain amount of trust. Occasionally, some players may fail to live up to their end of an agreement, or act in a less than honest manner. Unfortunately as such acts our outside of our control, the Support Team is unable to force players to live up to their end of the bargain or replace any items or in-game currency that may have been lost. I apologise for any frustration that this may cause.
However, the Support and Development teams are always looking for ways to make trades and other transactions more secure. For example, the Trade window now notifies players if an offer has been changed, with a red warning message. Please let us know if you have any suggestions for how transactions such as this can be made more secure, as the Development team looks closely at player feedback when making changes to the game.
If you feel that the player in question has violated the User Agreement or Rules of Conduct in any other way than previously described, please let us know and I will investigate the issue further.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation, and please feel free to contact us again if you encounter any other problems.
Regards,

First of all why would I bother to fake a email from Anet. Second I couldn't care less really, people who are scammed are really just as pathetic as the scammers themselves. Third, they've changed their policy in the past few weeks. This is the second time i've received a response including the action taken. First was a griefer in CoF who was banned a couple of days. Try it yourself, or just sit their like the rest of the morons on guru and believe whatever the idiots here post.

Wish more games would take http://eve-online.com/ their stance on scamming. Scamming is allowed in that game, you shouldn't be dumb enough to get scammed. As far as they are concerned, if you were smart enough to trick someone else you deserve the money. The end result of allowing scamming is less people get scammed because everyone knows nothing will happen to the scammer, so they step up to the plate themselves. When you expect the game to protect you from scams you let your guard down and get scammed.
