Hello everyone!

I got guildwars just over a month ago, loving it , but i have a way noobish question.

I've noticed while browsing the weapon screenshots thread, that all weapons of one type do the same ammount of damage(all necro staves do 11-22, dervish scythes do like 9-41, all assassin 7-17), ofcourse excluding earlier reqs.

What is the point of having different weapons if they all do the same ammount of damage?

Thanks

Appearance, also stats can be different for two scythes, but that's usually down to the player.

the "skin" or appearance of the weapon is the main factor.... also some "skins" are far more rare than most so they are more popular and thus more valuable - it's purely for the looks in most cases. However back when it was just the original Guild Wars, players could not modify weapons themselves, so whatever inherent "mods" were on a weapon were all you had... now the new weapons that drop are fully moddable by the player, with whatever they want.

The appearance is a big reason.

with your playing time you will learn that in GW its the same to have a ugly as hell staff/sword/whatever and a cool looking weapon, the difference between them is the skin...

usually, the cooler the skin or rarer the weapon, the more expensive it is lol but the damage its the same
mods are ate your own description

also, some different skins have different benefits and downsides
bows for example
shortbows shoot faster but have a short range
longbows shoot slower but have a longer range
