From the code, it looks like a video problem. Whether it's the card or the driver, I don't know.
You're running Vista, yes?

I'm running Windows XP. This is the second graphics card, the other was a Nvidia one. It also did this error so I figured I could rule out the graphics card.
Kattar
Ok, good, we're ruled out the card itself.
Can you post your other system specs for us? That'll help, since I'm thinking the PSU might be the cause now. Although, it could be a number of things...

Umm hmm I got a everest report but this forum doesnt wanna show it so ill have to give it as an attachment sorry

Ive been having a similar crash with Guild Wars, it started after the last update, ive not played the game a lot since perhaps only for 2 hours but ive had the crash 4 times now, each time submitted the report to anet.
I have a Nvidia 8800GT with latest drivers, seems that you have ruled out graphics but i cant think what else causes errors like that.

OS Service Pack --- Service Pack 1
You should update right away to SP3: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...3/default.mspx
Note that it may have nothing to do with the problem, but it's necessary for your security.
Chocobo1
Ae nah It's ok the way it is, I'm well aware of the security risks and stuff but I don't really wanna upgrade it :P

I dont really see how different services packs would affect it :S Guild Wars should be able to run fine on Service Pack 1.
Kattar
Good catch Fril, I didn't see that.
Upgrading isn't just a security issue, it's a stability issue as well.
Upgrade at least to SP2, and see if that helps. Many things just will not work with SP1. So that may help a little.

Hmm ok lets say that I can't actually upgrade past this Service pack because of reasons beyond my control. Is there anything else that could be causing this?
Kusandaa
I don't think the SP1 is causing the problems; I had similar problems with my old computer (Intel P4 2.4GHz, Asus P4B533 mobo, 512MB RAM, ATI Radeon 9600SE 256MB).
Here's what happened to me in details
I've always had problems with the computer itself (RAM-related at the beginning, then XP problems). For a while it worked nice, but I had c0000005 exceptions every now and then, nothing TOO bothering. When I moved in with my husband the computer went nuts and would crash every time I'd run a 3D game - c0000005 exception still, sometimes sending me to the desktop but most of the time, crashing the entire system to a BSOD. Games would crash everywhere between 15 minutes and 2 hours. I updated the video card drivers, nothing worked.
Anyways I dealt with it about an year and a half. I just simply wouldn't play much on it...
I was gaining interest in GW again so I had updated the drivers, the mobo, checked for stuff that went wrong in the BIOS, asked for a technician to help... anyways, nothing seemed wrong.
In September 2006 - over 4 years I bought the computer - it BSODed on me again and I couldn't boot it normally, it would crash at the Windows XP logo. I've had that problem before too (on my old P1 133MHz, vid card problems) so I thought that if I could change video cards, boot in safe mode, uninstalled vid card and install the new one like I had done for my previous computer it'd be okay... went and bought a new vid card, put it in the PC...
... It didn't even go past the boot screen the first few times. Finally, I gave up and put the old card back in. Comp finally booted again, got passed boot screen, loaded to Windows...
BSOD, then nothing. It would refuse to boot.
This time I went to a technician, who told me the WHOLE computer had fried and that I needed to replace everything, even maybe the case if my new mobo wouldn't fit in (but it did, saved me over 400 bucks).
My guess is that there was something up with the power, or there was a problem with the mobo anyways...
But my c0000005 exceptions were NOT created by the vid card even though the BSODs noted that it was caused by the ATI drivers.
So huh... I hate to sound pessimist but if you can't boot the computer at all at some point, something's frying up and you might need to change it.
EDIT: The c0000005 were apparently caused by "faulty" ATI drivers (although I knew people with similar vid cards and nothing had gone wrong). I say "apparently" because it's what BSODs showed: ati.dll caused a c0000005 exception at yada yada.... in both your case and mine, it's not the video card itself as both systems used 2 cards to test. We can eliminate this. I'm really guessing it's a mobo problem, at most a power problem...
My computer was also running on SP2.
I think I have an idea why you can't download your Windows updates, but I still don't think it's the cause. However, these security updates are important, especially if you're like most people and use the Internet a lot. I'm sure they don't help.

Buy a non-pirated copy of Windows.
And no, there's nothing else I know to suggest. Anyone else have any ideas?

Um also just thinking my other computer has a better power supply than this one, would it be worth switching them?

(http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com should give you the option of installing SP2 and not SP3)
Just between you and me Chocobo1, by running XP with only SP1, you're like a house without doors and windows: no one may notice it, but if they do your computer is 0wned quickly. It's your choice. XP does not cost much these days...

Well I'm worried because I don't really want this to fry on me like what happened to the other person. I don't know if this will help but I can play games for ages perfectly (Went 5 hours today without a single problem, lol at trying to do a new character) then eventually it crashed and just kept on crashing within 20 minutes of each other.

Upgrading requires WGA authentication, so I doubt it'll work.

About SP2, do NOT try to get it from any website other than microsoft ones, unless you're 100% (not 99%) sure it's legit. This download may do the trick, but it's not guaranteed:

Page file wouldn't affect it, I don't think. Unless there's a memory leak in Gw. If there was, we'd be getting a lot more threads about it. Plus, all that stuff was in the everest report he posted.

Ok, I won't bite on the trolling message, though I was about to. Back on topic:
We can't say for sure. I'm no HW specialist, but my short XP shows me that problems can be on both sides and exhibit the exact same symptoms. IMHO Chocobo1 should try to install SP2 from there:

I stand corrected. But it's Windows doing it in this case, not Gw. Good and bad, in sense. |
It's not GW as the poster said that it affected 3 games; for my case, it was all 3D-based games, I can tell you what I had installed on mine when I had such problems:
- Deus Ex GTOY Edition
- Diablo

The only games I had which wouldn't crash were SNES and GBC/GBA emulators... and I can't say it's not legit because I owned the games either on SNES, on GBC/GBA or on PS1 (if you own the games it's legit).

If we are still out of ideas on this, I think it is a combo of hardware and drivers from nvidia. Somewhere in this thread the OP said they are using the "latest drivers". I am not using the latest drivers I am using 169.??(I am at work atm) I have no issues at all. My suggestion is to download driver sweeper and the 169 drivers. Then sweep all the nvidia drivers and install 169. Then use rivatuner or *shudder* Ntune to turn the fan speed up. The fan speed is set to 29% and I have never seen it move on its own.

This is really awkward.
The rules of this forum strictly ban any and all mention of pirated software and, in this case, we really can't offer further advice.
This may make me look like an egotistical dictator type, but really, I'm not. Software piracy, regardless of anyone's personal opinion, is a totally taboo subject on this forum.
Buy yourself a legitimate OEM copy of XP or Vista from Amazon or other trusted source, then come back and we'll help in any way we can.

Mmmk I do actually have a legal copy of windows so please try not to close my thread. I'll install it because I'm actually really desperate for help on this even if my tone wasn't as urgent as it seemed.
Ok first I'll upgrade to the latest Service Pack, but the problem is I don't really think that it's that. My computer's hardware is still the same as the other thread but I can repost the report if you like.
Someone posted that, but it doesn't have any fix on it? Can someone give some clarification on that?

Wait, you need to clarify the issue you are having? I am confused.
Post your PC specs, what you are doing when said error occurs, what Windows type you are trying to install, and how old the install disk is.

Oh, I see. You posted a new thread Chocobo1. I am going to merge the two threads ok? It is going to the software area. I will leave a redirect for you. Keep discussion to that thread.
However, illegal software is a big no no, and we can't help you with it. If it ends up we find out it is illegal, There may be bad consequences to serve for lying. So, if it is illegal, you need to let us know, and be honest about it. If it is legal, then we can continue to help you.

Cheers The other one is locked im sorry and also sorry for posting in wrong area

Install the legal version and get back with us. The problem should resolve itself. You can also update the key to the legal version. The issue should go away with SP2 or SP3. I would HIGHLY recommend SP3, as performance increases for GW1 are 20-35%.

I really doubt it has anything to do with the servicepack. I had the same issue on my old computer as well and it was fully updated.
Lord Sojar
Still, in order to help you further, we need to eliminate that as a possibility. So, you need to install the legit version and post that you updated it. That will make sure it isn't the issue and we will only help if the version is legit.

K this might be awhile since I'm going to go to a mates house and he can reformat my computer and install the legit windows at the same time. So It might be a few days before I get back to this thread :P
