After getting bored with many other MMO's I had heard a lot about GW. But when I started to install it about 3/4 of the way through it slowed to a halt and stopped for about 30 min.
One of my First thoughts was to open any ports. . . but I couldn't find any threads about it. Secondly I was wondering if there was any way that a traceroute might help but I forgot the instructions. . .
So if I could just get those two items of info then I should be on my way.

Ports 80 and 6112.
If you already have the GW files installed (C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\ on XP or the Program Files(x86) equivalent in Vista) - make a shortcut of gw.exe on your desktop, edit the shortcut and add -diag at the end of the text in the shortcut box (leave a space before the -diag).
That will, amongst other things, run a tracert - the results will be generated in a NetworkDiag.txt within your GW folder.

What if this is in the process of installation and the problem occurs then how do you do a tracert.
Secondly are the ports TCP or UDP?

Thanks for your help I found the issue. It was quite simple and stupid I just had to turn my laptop off and on. It is the same problem that I have with another game quite often. Also windows One Live Care was another issue but I solved it thanks once again.
