HoM: Account Based or Toon Based?
imnotyourmother
So what do you think the reasoning is that they are making the Hall of Monuments account based or toon based?
My thought is this.
Fact. GW2 is in design mode and will be coming out soon. EDIT: 200?
Fact. GW2 will have some sort of connection through the HoM to GW:EN
Fact. GW:EN is the ONLY expansion as it is tied to PROF.
The clincher for me is this;
FACT: L.S and LDoA are MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE. Therefore they will automatically eliminate one or more of the things that will transfer from GW1 to GW2. If there is some sort of "reward" given that is different for each title that you have displayed in the hall you can never get both things on one account transfered to GW2 as currently things are "Toon" based in the hall.
Is this thinking sound right?
Lord Mansfield once said, "Never give your reason, for your judgement will probably be right, but your reasons almost certainly will be wrong."

Your first "Fact" is not a fact. GW2 will not be coming out soon.
On topic: I havent decided yet. I'll wait for it to be implemented before I make my decision.

Or the fact the community bitched all the time and wanted it this way? Anet actually did something the community wanted.

Well, a few months ago, I would have loved having my HoM account based since I played across 6 characters, but after realizing that Anet probably wasn't going to fix it (oh how wrong I was), I decided to focus on one character. I guess it's really not that big-a-deal to me then since I've done all this work on my primary.
BUT if they decide to make that big statue based on the KoaBD title account-based, I. WILL. BE. PSYCHED. I'm sick of having a half-finished floating statue in my hall. I'll probably go for r5 on my primary anyway, but it'd be nice to have a finished hall as soon as possible.
As a side note: This doesn't really have anything to do with HoM being account based, but they need to fix that freakin weapons monument. Both destroyer weapons and tormented weapons look equally stupid imo. I wouldn't want to be caught dead using a tormented bow, so buying one just to have it customized would be a HUGE waste.

The reason why ANet changed the HoM was because of all the complaining by the community. They finally gave in to all the millions of QQ threads, just like with SF, and as they are saying, Ursan as well.
Sadly, if people complain enough, there will be changes it seems.

What the hell does Mansfield have ANYTHING to do with this thread?
crazybanshee
They're doing it because people bitched, not only are LS and LDOA mutually exclusive, many people's primary characters are old and didn't have access to those titles when they were created. It makes sense anyway, why have to get your drunk title on different toons if you want the reward in gw2, that's just stupid.

gw2 coming out soon.....yeah right.
I tend to agree that enough people complained that they would NOT play more than one character since the HOM wont show more than one----so to get people to play again they will make it account wide, that said, I really dont care since I dont care about gw2 at all. (I do want to see my HoM full though for my own personal whatnot).

The HoM account-based changes, however, are a huge positive step, none the less. While it certainly won't make everyone happy, it seems like it's the best compromise for the community as a whole.
Azazel covered everything else I can think of.

the only way they should make KoaBD account wide -IF that's the plan- is:
- to be able to show the title on all your characters (rewarding the player, not just one toon)
- to have the title only add different titles for each rank of KoaBD (so each max title only counts ONCE, whichever character has it)
This way the player is rewarded with a nice title and not just one toon, and he can use all of his characters to max different titles, and you still have to achieve 30 different titles if you want to max KoaBD to r6.

EoTN is not tied to Prophecies, it shares the map but you don't need prophecies to play EoTN.
Isnt the new HoM update going to make it account based, so you will be able to have a survivor and LDoA?
Im not totally convinced about this, but I guess I don't mind too much as I don't really have any titles on other characters which I dont already have on my main.

^ Concerning Survivor and LDoA, read the whole thread. HoM viewing will be account-based but this does not mean titles will be shared account-wide across all characters.
Concerning GW:EN's relation to Prophecies, it isn't solely tied to Prophecies but the game is indeed an expansion on Tyria (geographically and culturally) and the story arc is, indeed, exclusively an expansion of the story of Prophecies. Hardly relevant to OP's entire post, but I thought I'd point out that this may be what s/he was trying to state (in "fact" #3).

FrAnt1c??
Making your HoM account based, will this imply that titles like lightbringer and such, become account based aswell? ( maybe with a higher cap or w/e? )

i kind of hope some certain stupid titles are made account based.
i.e. drunkard, party animal, sweet tooth
whats the point in having a title that is essentially designed to be worked on while idling in an outpost or afking and then make it so you cant work on it across all characters?

This allows me to get the two titles in my HOM I would have never been allowed to get otherwise: Survivor and Legendary Defender.
My character was created before the Survivor title was introduced. It put me at a disadvantage.

Toon? TOON?
World of Warcraft has 'toons'. This is Guild Wars.
We have CHARACTERS.
And for the change, I think they should make some things account based only for the HoM, some should stay character-based:
- Honor.
* Grind titles change behavior.
** Non-plot related grind titles(Lucky, Wisdom, Treasure, etc...) become fully account based, both for the HoM and the characters.
** Plot-related grind titles(Sunspear, Kurzick, Norn, etc...) gain bonuses in earnings (for single kills ONLY, not affecting bonus points like missions, quests, boss kills, books, etc) the more ranks characters earn. For example, a player with 1 maxed character for that title would earn +1 point per kill with the rest of characters. They stay character-based for the characters, but account-based for the HoM. The higher rank of all characters would be shown.
* Achievement titles stay character-based for both the HoM and the characters.
* Survivor and LDoA would be account-based for the HoM, but character-based for the characters. The higher rank of Survivor of all characters would be shown.
- Resilience. Stays character based.
- Companionship. Heroes stay character based. Pets become account-based.
- Devotion. Fully account-wide. People that dedicated more than one miniature of the same type in multiple characters would be able to un-dedicate the same number of miniatures as surplus ones, if they have the dedicated ones: Dedicated 3 hydras, can un-dedicate 2.
- Honor. Fully account-wide. Can un-dedicate a number of weapons equal to the surplus ones: Customized 2 shields, can un-customize 1.
Yeah. That should do.

I always took Guild Wars as a game that encouraged people to come and go as they chose. One of those aspects with that philosophy was that it was okay to have 10 characters, because focusing on many at a time didn't take away. You could still be just as rich, or good, or anything by playing 10 characters instead of 1.
Compare it to World of Warcraft for example (I have no hate of the game, it's just how it is.). The game certainly focuses on a developing one or two characters as a time, not a plethora of characters. You'd fall behind otherwise, unless you play more than the average player.
Guild Wars fell away from this though. Along with the introduction of titles is where it really fell from that. The game no longer was most beneficial to play several characters. The Hall of Monuments only further cemented this newfound idea. Why would I try and spread my achievements over many characters, if in the end I would only have a bunch of barely full Hall of Monuments that wouldn't help much in Guild Wars 2.
The shift to making the Hall of Monuments account based..I think it goes back to their original vision. That and because people were an uproar about it too haha.
