Running Kathandrax HM with a 600/Smite Team
Nalia Grimm
First, I am sorry if there's already been a thread created for this, but I haven't found one from Searching thus far.
I've been trying to run Catacombs of Kathandrax HM as a 600/Smite/Ranger setup, but I always seem to get blown up by the Consuming Flames boss. I can run Shards of Orr, and of course, CoF, but this dungeon is really messing me up. I've gotten a run for it, but the runner just had people kill the boss with Ursan, and I think you should be able to sit back and relax if you're paying 15k for a run through a dungeon.
Any words of wisdom or suggested builds, etc. from people who have been running this/can run it? I'd love any imput.

I think you'd have to use the same tactic as the Ooze boss in Ooze Pit, bring Diversion.
Luminarus
U dont need diversion for the ooze pit boss, just degen.
One way I would suggest, althought it would be rather slow is bring pain inverter, and get all the runnee's to aggro the boss, and get killed. Bring a hero that doesnt have rez, flag him at the door and repeat till boss is dead. If you dont want to do that, then you could PI, kill urself get resed etc, although that would take forever. Other then that i dunno.

Degen-ing a boss to death works fine... Considering what we're supposed to be talking about is the Flame Djinn with Consuming Flames...
He can't degen it to death. And he doesn't want the customers to have to do anything.

It'll take ages to get past that with degen.
Thus. Diversion.

I do belive to kill this dude all you need is Pain Inverta.... worked for me / another runner i have seen. This guy does not regain health just stand there drop his bombs and PI him to death.

Rothan, you're thinking of the wrong boss. The end boss of Kathandrax is pathetically easy to kill using a 600/smite build. Its the Flame Djinn boss on lvl 3 that is next to impossible. With Diversion you stand a good chance, but trading out something like pain inverter for diversion will make killing the wurms in this dungeon next to impossible.
The ONLY way I have been able to do this solo (without diversion) is that I found a spot on the map where the boss tends to get stuck and become unable to move. Then you can wand him to death as his only heal is a touch range melee skill. Getting him to get stuck in this spot is not easy, but I have been able to do it on more than one occasion.
It's still best to just bring 4+ ursans to take him down... even with the nerf to ursan it should work quite fast.
Also, it just occured to me that diversion will do next to nothing against consuming flames. Even if you are able to divert consumiing flames, the boss also uses Flourish, which will recharge consuming flames as it is listed as a melee attack. Personally, I'm still trying to figure out exactly how a skill can be simultaneously a melee attack and a touch attack. The more I think about this boss, the more I come to believe there is no way to take him down without a full or nearly full party. Maybe if you could keep him constantly interrupted that would stand a chance... but with the HM cast times for a lvl 30 boss being what they are... reliable interupts seems unlikely. Perhaps some sort of knockdown spamming could work?

Me and a few guildies made up a four person team to do kathandrax, but it requires at least 2 people, 1 to 600 and 1 to run. For the Consuming flames boss, we used the perma sin to get him stuck on a rock then we wand/degen him to death. The smiter is a mes and has cry of pain/shrinking armor and conjure phantasm, and the runner has mark of rodgort and we degen him to death. Doesn't really take all that long to degen him once you get him stuck, and if your running people and they help kill him it's just an added bonus.

Can anyone please pm me with the builds or even post here the builds for the 600/smite team, I've tested some builds and I always get killed, can't imagine how the working builds look like....
Please, thank you.
Please, thank you.

umm, just a thought but maybe bring two heroes and put [[shelter] on your hero which doesn't have [[holy wrath]? disable and force cast it when you get to this guy. or try using [[cant touch this] to see if it is a touch skill as the description says or if it is truly a melee attack. honestly i don't really know if this skill ignores prots or not. just a suggestion.

Is consuming flames interruptable? i was trying to find out wether or not monster skills were interruptable on wiki but it does not touch base on that subject. I was thinking of trying distracting shot if it is. If not can you post a pic of the location of the spot he can be wanded'ed'ed.

The build is up on the pvxwiki now. You should consider checking it out if you're still interested in running this. I didnt try it myself(nor did I post it). But I'll try it later sometime this week. Probably after the HA bonus

I haven't been long back playing gw but I've been playing around with 600/smiting lately and me likey.
Got a question about the Kathandrax build on Pvx wiki though. It says the 600 should carry essence bond and should maintain it on himself. Also, the ranger should carry essence bond and maintain it on the 600.
Is this a mistake or do you benefit for having essence bond maintained on you twice?

Essence Bond returns energy to its caster so everytime 600 takes damage, both him and the ranger gain energy.
