KSmod
-Lotus-
I believe the functionality of KSmod should be added to the game. perhaps as a checkbox under the graphics tab. It made sense when the game was made and almost no one could load everything in the highest resolution, but hardware has improved and now many players can run the game with all the textures in full quality.
Guild wars is a beautiful game and we should be able to view it in full quality without having to use an outside mod.
PS. for those unaware out there, KSmod forces the game to use high resolution textures on all models including other player's armor.

WTB Crysis, Bioshock, COD4, SoaSE, or any decent game made within the last 2 years.
But yeah, I have a decent rig (run GW on full, minimal lag, and if I do, it's usually server-side), and I'd like to get a little more out of it graphically.

Crysis takes a beast of a machine especially on high/very high, Bioshock SUCKS on the PC (heard bad stories and more people who have tried it on 360 and PC prefer it on 360), CoD4 is good on both 360 and PC.
Now as for GW, it's a good game, it came out 3 years ago which iirc, is longer than those games you mentioned (I don't know what SoaSE is so I cant comment there), it has very good graphics which can run on lower end systems so you can't complain about the graphics.
And even then, it should be gameplay which dictates how good a game is, not graphics. Even the story is more important (specially because GW is an RPG style game where story is important) than Graphics.

Huge pixels turn me on ... so I voted no.
No but seriously, I do like the idea.. but I think it's fine as it is.

the thing is that this wouldnt take anything at all to implement, all the functionality is already in the game, I cant see any reason not to have this.
Brimstonez
I don't see why one shouldn't be allowed to do this. Yes I agree, Guild Wars is a beautiful game, with some wicked scenary. There's no added advantage over other players by doing this, and you are only enhancing your own personal gaming experience on a game you spend so much time in, thus keeping up their player ratings.
tumatae
Agreed, its already prooven to be doable(<--is that how its spelled?) in the game and all that good stuff already mentioned. It shouldnt be too hard to add

Also I'm supporting the option of making everyone elses armour be Hi-res. Then we could see what it actually looks like!

ksmod is super easy to dl/use, no reason for anet to devote any time to implementing it.

I use this mod, an option in the graphics would be nice. Since, this mod really makes screen shots look better and it barely affects my game playing.

Supa dupa eppen graphic engines don't translate to good graphics, they never did.

I said yes...but honestly, why would Anet ever put this in when it's just as easy to just get the KSMod...You'd still need to do all the same things (i.e. -image) to have all the data, so it seems just as easy to do that, and therefore Anet really have no need to implement it.
-Lotus-
unfortunately KSmod is unreliable and stops working after almost every update,If Anet just did it themselves there wouldnt be a problem, and they would have to worry about players using a third-party potentially-harmful program (yes, i know KSmod is safe, but what if the creater looses it and the next update is a virus? that dosnt happen when a company is in control of the program)
Arduin
As long as it will be made optional, it will get my vote.
My rig tends to get a bit choppy when entering big towns using KSmod, but it sure makes everything in town a bit shinier.
I'm no programmer, so I have no idea how much work will be involved, but it's a bit iffy we need to use a player-made mod to fully experience the graphics. And honestly, the 'let them work on GW2 instead of fixing trivial things in GW1 gets old fast'. Especially now some peeps have been assigned to dedicate their time at GW1 alone.

I'm no internet expert hence I'm hoping someone can answer what would possibly be my only objection.
Would it effect lag or server load in anyway?
I'm not talking in the way KSmod currently works but more the actual Anet implementation if they chose to do it and also if somebody running an older machine used such an option could it increase load in times at all?
If not I'd be keen although I also think it's one of those things that will unfortunately never happen.
If so I'm against.I'd rather have pixels than lag.

If you have an old machine, it will take more time to load in a certain busy town, because of all the high-res textures needed loading. (primary reason why Anet made us wear low-res armor in towns in the first place.)
I highly doubt you seeing shiny armors (because you enabled the option) makes other people experience lag. I suppose it's like an option like 'enable post-process effects', something that's only handled on your machine.
However, I'm not an expert either.

i wouldn't want to have that on when spamadan is full when i even then get a bare 12 fps or so
i don't really care because i'm not going to use it

In all honesty, I don't care if they add it to GW right now. I'm running with KSmod right now, barely any lag (except the general lagging when I enter Kamadan, so crowded) and it gave the chance to look at some high-res armor in the game instead of Wiki, where a lot of the pics I've seen were either way too dark or on low-res anyways.

If it's an option then why not.
Arduin
Okays, scrap that. Thanks for informing DarkNecrid.
DarkNecrid
That's actually incorrect. You download the low res and high res textures separately. This is why if you don't -image your gw.dat, your game will hang if you encounter a high res texture you haven't downloaded when using KSMod. When you enter a town or someone joins, the game is currently programmed to download their low res textures only, it only downloads yours when you equip it, and when you go outside of an outpost with someone (in which case their high res armor textures is downloaded and used.)
But if they made this an option, they would obviously make it so that when someone uses an armor it is programmed to download the high res ones when the option is checked.

MithranArkanere
If people have system enough to deal with more than 50 character models with maximum textures they have the right to.
Just add a 'Superior' option following the 'High' option and let people choose by themselves.
If the problem is texture downloads in cities, then under the 'Superior' option the medium res textures would be used if the high ones aren't downloaded yet, and download the High ones when not in towns or when using /image as is done right now when you select High textures.

Regular GW makes me want to gouge my eyes out, I love KSmod. I'ld much prefer there be an ingame option to force HR textures.

it isn't even that bad.
You realize all it does is make people's stuff in towns high right. It does nothing else. That's it.
You're in towns for how long?
I mean...it's good and all but gouge your eyes out because o noes you see some textures in Medium?

I don't want any mods but I would love to have this option ingame, it should be VERY easy to implement.
Just make it off by default and add a warning saying that this option may heavily reduce your game's performance.

can i bump this? i still realy want to see it in game...
Ultima pyromancer
I dont see any reason why people would not want this... jelousy having crap computers maybe :P
But seriously, most armor looks apalling in towns.. well most armor does anyway IMO but when e-peeners walk round with there FoW armor it just looks horrible and blotchy.. Maybe making Higher res textures the closer people are to you would be nice, but that could use an engine re-work and i doubt we are getting that anytime soon.
You shouldn't have to download 3rd party programs just to get the full potential out of a games graphics, Guild Wars is beuatifully made in most areas (some exceptions like Kamadans clipping is to be desired)
I do often wonder how they made such good graphics, yet it still runs on relatively low end machines

It is pretty ridiculous since Guild Wars is no longer new that there's actually code in place to limit how much graphics you can display in town. There should be a switch to allow people to set the graphics automatically to a higher setting if they want. It's one of the things that Guild Wars should use as a selling point since the graphics look better than many of its competitors.
I don't understand the nay-sayers. I use KSMod explicitly for this purpose and I appreciate it a 100%.
I've found it a lot easier to look at actual armor styles via somebody's actual in-game model rather than look at static pictures on any web page. With the high-resolution textures, you get an exact idea how it'll look without any guessing, and you can walk around and see it from as many angles as you like. Stand around any major city like LA or Kamadan long enough, and somebody will eventually show up with an outfit that you're interested in seeing.
Also, whoever says that you don't stand around town very long must not have been trying to sell things in town. If you're selling stuff, then you're going to be in town for no less than five minutes, unless you're intentionally lowballing your sell price and then everybody PMs you. Conversely, when I'm shopping for stuff, then I have to wait in town for quite some time since there's no Auction House and I have to wait for a seller to show up.

FWIW... It'd be very easy for ANet to add KSMod functionality, as it's already in the game and all that's needed is a switch to enable it. I'd say less than a days job for one programmer.
It'd take a bit more work but be perfectly feasible for ANet to flag high-res textures for armors as a download when you enable KSMod functionality, so that the user only needed to download the armor textures, not the whole 3.6 GB installation.
So yeah, it's possible; yeah, it wouldn't require much effort on ANets part; yeah, it COULD be done so that it didn't kill server bandwidth; yeah, it does make the game look quite a lot better; no, it does not slow down the game noticeably except that it takes longer to load a new town when you enter.
So enabling it seems like a good idea to me.

Well why not, the only difference is a view larger textures shown on ur screen, which will not causing any lag at all. As for the downloading of the high res textures, won't take that long me thinks. So the only thing that gets a little lower is the fps (but even that is not a big difference) so, why not
EDIT: with larger i mean higher file size off-course

After the mod was made, I requested this mod be official:
http://guildwarsguru.com/forum/showt...php?t=10261154
I was the person who originally suggested the idea:
http://guildwarsguru.com/forum/showt...php?t=10165250
http://guildwarsguru.com/forum/showt...php?t=10197614
http://guildwarsguru.com/forum/showt...php?t=10221559
People back then were debating whether it would cause lag, slowdowns, increased loading times etc and nothing was done. Then I requested it in the mod section of the forum and Kunt0r came to the rescue! As I read these comments, I am still wondering why people would be against it. 8 votes against? Why?! If it's an option, everyone should say yes.
I gave the mod to my friend who has an abysmal computer (Celeron 1.8GHz, ATI 9200SE, 256mb ram) and he noticed no slowdowns with the mod on. It really doesn't cause any noticeable slowdowns, even on very old computers from what I can see.
To be honest, the high resolution armor aspect of the KSmod fulfills all my graphical needs but it would be much better if it was an option in the graphics window. I'm sure there are people who play Guild Wars who would appreciate better looking armors but are not aware of the existence of the KSmod. I am also sure there are people playing Guild Wars who think the blurry armor they see is how the armor always looks.

I really want to know why Anet hasn't at lease made a comment on this. they usually at lease tell us they wont fix things. they have totally ignored this...
