Faction's Towns

I propose a new way to allow alliances to own towns. It will still require faction of your represented side but you must PvP to actually take the town. Once you earn enough faction to overtake a town, you have to win some kind of pvp match to actually own it. It could be GvG or multi-rounds of AB.

Each alliance can only try once a day to take a town. The defending alliance can only be opposed 8 times a day(once every 3 hours). The defending alliance loses the town if they fail to show up or lose the PvP match.

It would make town ownership more prestigious rather than just, "You must farm 10k faction minimum a day because you can get a town and crappy merchant discounts."

good idea however that would require that the guild who lost the town have enough members on to even play in said match. Would be kinda hard to organize tbh. Maybe if anyone from the guild taking over goes into the outpost the gaurds in there become hostile and you have to kill them instead of having fake npc's do it? dunno but the whole pvp side would be hard to set up and slightly unfair since its all about who has more faction in the first place....

That would mean that Alliance would have to be spending all of their time waiting for someone to try to overtake the town. People would rather just play the game. Yeah, FFF is cheap, but don't fix what's not broken.

Like GvG, alliance members should obviously be usable to help defend. Basically, if an alliance challenges the owning alliance to square off for ownership, it should give everyone a 2 hour notice that reinserts itself into your chat every twenty minutes. 2 hours should be enough time to organize a team of eight to defend the town, and you would fight in Cavalon or House Zu Heltzer. It would make the game more redefined in terms of owning a town.

My guild has owned up to Aurio's Mines. Once we discovered it wasn't really all that to own Cavalon from guildies who got an offer to join them, joined to check it out and left, we threw the farming away. This would give new competitive PvP element as a rare reward to those in those alliances.

I'm all up for this idea.

looks like your pretty much trying to say "get rid of hfff and fff quests". if it came to a multi-round ab type match, would it be on a kurzick map exclusively? a luxon map exclusively?.GvG type match would be kinda fail, what would stop the alliances rawr,dr,baby, sts and so on are in becoming lets say req 25, (see where im going?)the average alliance capable of owning a town probably has 0 chance of actually attacking or defending as such in that situation.anet might as well remove faction and ab from the game and award towns on skill/merit with that type of system

would it really change anything from 2 or 3 guilds dominating HzH and Any owning cavalon without a break?

definately not

Would it be better to have the town ownership achieved by results kind of like a game high score table.
Then it wouldn't depend on the size of the alliance but on how well they did and control would remain until you are beaten.

Just a passing thought on something I don't really do in the game.

What would happen if let's say 10 alliances could attack the town?
Obviously the defending alliance would have to fight all day with a different opponent each time ... do you think that's viable for the defenders?

I would sign a better system for town control but this is not it...

so all the people that spent years (quite literally) AB'ing/ HFFF'ing/FFF'ing to make sure that they can actually get a town and keep it, their hard work can be thrown away? noty.

Plus the top gvg guilds would just own all the towns if that were the case. And wheres the fun in that?

/signed - I like this idea alot. It would make an even more challenge to obtain a Factions town.

Makes a lot more sense than HFFF.

Not sure that would work. It requires a defending alliance to have member on 24 hours a day which isn't practical. Let's say my American based alliance (with 900+ members) is challenged at 4am EST. This is 1am - 4am American time. The top PvPers in my guild are asleep. Sure, there may be 10-20 people online but they aren't the cream of the crop in the Alliance. They enjoy vanquishing and HFFF and contribute to the faction, but dislike pvp. They aren't up to defending a town.

Say you're an american alliance, based on GMT -5. It's 4am GMT -5. A euro alliance based on GMT +3 challenges you. You don't have enough people on/don't have enough people willing, so you'd have to surrender, which would be very unfair.

Even if ANet split the towns into the different districts, getting 12/8 people willing to do a PvP match every 3 hours is going to be a hassle.

Like TheRaven said, it's just not practical. I like the idea, but it's not practical.

it would be nice if owning towns wasnt about grinding fff, but thei would require alliances to keep a GvG team on call at all times.

How about this: the alliance with the highest combined guild rating gets HzH/Cavalon. HzH, here we come!

nah the lowest rated alliance owns HzH or Cavalon, the highest rated owns the proverbial "wooden shack" aka eredon terrace or bai pasau reach

sounds a lot better
