My buddy's been trying to fix a problem. He has quite a pretty good computer 2 gigs ram geforce 9800 gtx and a dual core
Guild wars is occassionally minimizing and then dissappearing off the taskbar. Then it plays audio loops and he is forced to alt f-4 to close it. I know of one oother person with the same problem.
All his drivers are up to date and he has all the sound codec's.
He has reinstalled guild wars as well

1. Have you ever been able to run Guildwars before on this machine without these problems?
2. Have you recently installed new hardware or software? like Video card or sound card or anything else new?
Sometimes it's best not to upgrade drivers if your computer is working fine. So maybe going back to an older driver? (If your PC was working fine before any updates to your drivers.)
Also Try this: go to start->run and type dxdiag. Once there, there should be a "DirectX Files" tab, click on that to see if there is any conflicts. If there are try reinstalling DirectX 9.0c

Many of the lock-up problems with GW (and other games) on multi-core machines can be minimized by forcing GW to run in only one CPU core. You can do this by setting the "process affinity" when you run it, but rather than go to the trouble of explaining that, and since you would have to do it each time anyway, I would recommend you Google a small app called "ForceCore", read up on how to use it, and download it.
Post here if you need help getting ForceCore to work.
Basically, you will end up with GW shortcut where the "target" line looks something like:
C:\ForceCore.exe -1 "C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe"
