nod32 constantly creates 007 error
tilpo
When i load an area it has a about 80% chance that i will get a "lost connection to the server" error with error code 007. After a while i found out that NOD32 was the source. When i shut it's protection of, GW runs perfectly. When i turn it on again, it keeps giving 007 errors. I spent about 2 hours in the config of NOD32 but still it doesn't work.
So can any of you guys help me out.
Thanks

Leave it turned off while you're playing. That's basically the solution to problems like this with anti-virus or firewall software.
If you're concerned about security, don't have a web browser open while you're playing. That'll help a little bit.
Hope that helps some.

I must be the only person in the world that doesn't have a problem with NOD32 and Guild Wars. Deleted AVG, installed NOD32 - never a problem since, and everything runs that little bit better, thanks to NOD32's unobtrusiveness.
Yay me?
Seriously though, I have seen several reports of issues with NOD and GW - am I just lucky, or have I got something turned off that others don't?
You're the second person today to confuse NOD32 and Norton. NOD32 is the superior product from Eset that is high on the list of virus detection and has the smallest "footprint". Norton is the one that takes over your PC, turns it into a flip-book, and totally refuses to let you uninstall it. Ever.

Okay, PLEASE do not listen to the first 2 posters. Doing so is unintelligent, and you will get viruses because of it. This same problem happened to me. What you have to do is this;
1) Open the NOD32 window
2) Go to 'Enter entire advanced setup tree..'
3) Go to 'Protocol Filtering' under 'Antivirus and antispyware' settings, 4 down from 'Web access protection'
4) Change the 'Redirect traffic for checking for' from the default (HTTP and POP3 ports) to 'Applications marked as Internet browsers and email clients'.
GW uses one of the ports that NOD32 will filter if you have the first setting, so changing it will fix your problem, and not leave you with no security.

Have you changed any of the default settings? I've been using Nod32 or Kaspersky since I've bought my current computer, and I've not had a problem with either blocking Guildwars. Are we talking about the Internet Security Suite or the Vanilla Antivirus?
psycore
easier one is to go into the IMON setup -> miscellaneous tab
click exclusion [edit]
add your path to gw.exe
and done.

Exclusions do not always work for gw.exe, as NOD32 also scans ports and such. Hence why you have to change that setting, or it will stop the connection between the client and the server.

Fenix thanks for the tip there, my NOD32 was set to "Ports and applications marked as Internet browsers or email clients" changed it now. We'll see, though at the moment with the Wintersday festival I can't even connect (code 058), earlier this morning is was code 007 whenever I changed outpost, moved into different territory. VERY annoying.

Try adding gw.exe to the exclusion list as well, as far as I can remember I did that before I found the port option. I was having the same problems you were, in that I either wouldn't connect, or I would err7.

Which NOD32 do you use? Eset Anti-virus or Eset Security Suite?
The latter is garbage, if you use that, I insist you uninstall and install the former.

I have the antivirus only from Eset v3.0.566.0

Once again, turning parts of NOD32 off is never a good idea. It's better to find what exactly is causing it, rather than just switching off entire sections of the program...
